December 3, 201213 yr Thanks for reporting on this. I had really paid no attention to Opus...I heading over there right now to read about it. This sounds like a great addon. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
December 3, 201213 yr I have made a youtube video to show people who didn't believe how amazing Opus is a while ago, it's the first time in FS that I entered an overcast condition and only saw the runway 100 feet above. No visual with it until then, no lights, nothing. That is real IMC condition, this is what real flying is about, you can't see the airport through a gap between clouds, you don't see the runway lights from above, it's no visual until you're clear of the clouds. Now with Real GRIB Wind-Aloft there's no competition, it's all there. Where is this video? Everytime I do that I can see the airport outline and fence... nm im dumb i see the link So it looks like instead of clouds it's actually lowering the visibility to simulate a OVC001 ceiling... that's basically what I do with customized weather hehe | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
December 3, 201213 yr Commercial Member Opus is a no brainer purchase IMO. Cheers jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
December 3, 201213 yr Another vote for OpusFSX! I am flying above Orbx England since it was released and the weather OpusFSX gives me there is just... just... just... awesome. And it's so amazing FAST too! I also have uninstalled EZCA: the views in OpusFSX are easy to set up and VERY precise too (since you can, if you want to, set them up by entering numbers) and the motion effect are far more realistic. I also own ASE and REX but OpusFSX is the one for me. ASE is uninstalled and gone forever and REX I only use for textures.
December 3, 201213 yr I would not only have to agree with all of the above, but go so far as to say that it also knocks Ezdok into a lower league. The effects feel MUCH more natual. Then there's the supoort. There is none for Ezdok, even though there's a forum, nothing happens there. The support from OpusFSX is outstanding!!!! Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
December 3, 201213 yr ASE is uninstalled and gone forever... Why not at least to inter it in a more respectful manner, lol? Otherwise you never know, they (hifi) may come up tomorrow with something better than Opus. They have a huge experience in wx engine for MSFS, so I wouldn't ditch them THAT lightly. And AS2012 is a good wx engine after all, it is very smooth but somewhat lacking in cloud/overcast depiction at the moment compared to Opus, from my perspective. Dirk.

Aaaaah, but I didn't ditch HiFI, did I? B) I ditched ASE! If HiFi comes up with something that's better then OpusFSX, I will surely try it and if needed ditch OpusFSX. ^_^ Our loyalty goes as far as the next best thing, doesn't it?
December 3, 201213 yr Aaaaah, but I didn't ditch HiFI, did I? Aah, ok, I thought you referred to the whole AS line... AS2012 is very good and developing, you may want to try it then. Dirk.
December 3, 201213 yr Ok, I had put Opus on the shelf pending aloft winds being added. Can I get some opinions on the accuracy of the aloft winds now with the latest build out? How accurate are they? AS2012 has the aloft winds down pat and would want the same from Opus prior to redownloading the latest build. Thanks Eric
December 3, 201213 yr OPUS was the first weather addon I bought for FS (in 15 years of the hobby) - I just thought I was not interested in a weather addon.... then I saw a screenshot on here, from a guy flying an NGX through the alps with OPUS, and the clouds literally took my breath away. I bought it within 10 minutes of seeing that screenshot and I have not looked back. It took 2 mins to set up and I have it configured so that it starts with FSX automatically - so there is absolutely nothing to set up - I just load a flight and I have amazing weather, clouds, realistic visibility, right there for me, automatically. It is a game changer ........... if there was a MS Flight Simulator 14 in ten years time, I doubt the weather would be as good as this.
December 3, 201213 yr I own AS2012, and imo Opus beats it by a mile. Sounds loud but not too sensible. Beats in what? Beats in winds aloft, in winds/visibility smoothing, beats in thermals generation, beats in the GUI, beats in variety of options, etc.? Dirk.
