December 4, 201213 yr so I headed outside for a look at the sky I had to laugh at this..........because i've done exactly the same thing with this program!! Regards Steve (only slightly losing reality!)

December 4, 201213 yr Don't forget to check out the excellent FEX clouds, I use Soft Naturals, but many use Nick's Dense Naturals, and don't worry we are still strictly operating on the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle, after all nearly all the options are related to overcoming shortcomings in FSX, you do not need many options to specify real world weather, just say where you want to get it from that's all. Regards Stephen Yay!!! That's one thing I've been afraid of is that OpusFSX would bloat up to be as big as the others trying to answer all these requests for all these other bells and whistles that aren't really needed or you can get elsewhere. IMO it should just do weather(I know it does the cameras and head movement stuff too) and keep doing it as GREAT as it has and as simple and unobtrusive as it has thus far. December 4, 201213 yr Why not just to offload it on the client? Dirk. Not on a standalone installation ;-) André
December 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member Setting up cameras is a snap once you do 1 or 2. The simple but effective UI is a joy. And BTW the Wx depiction is really good also! Cheers jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
December 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member Just started playing around with the cameras. Follow the brief tutorial in the manual, once you get one under your belt it is a breeze. OpusFx uses fsuipc to communicate with FSX. I believe REX uses simconnect. Is this one of the reasons weather seems to load/update differently between the two products? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2 My understanding is that OPUS only uses FSUIPC to communicate with addon hardware but is not needed otherwise. Remove it and Opus will work fine. December 5, 201213 yr Sorry to ask a stupid question, but is there now historical weather? I like to fly flights that were flown IRL e.g. a day or two earlier that I can find on flightaware so that's a must for me. If so I think I'm sold. James
December 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member We currently provide historic data for the last 24 hours, that will be extended in the future.
December 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member So how does it interpolate the ceiling? I flew into SoCal last night with VV001 and it set ceiling to 400ft ovc As stated in post #70 FSX cannot handle vertical visibility at all, hence we rely on horizontal visibility restrictions and condition statements. Hence VVs become redundant, since any ground fog or mist should always be reported in a METAR, the VVs just really say the cloud base is unknown due to restricted vertical vis. So the vis restriction must be specified, which of course it would.
December 5, 201213 yr We currently provide historic data for the last 24 hours, that will be extended in the future. Understood. I'll hold off until that's the case then.
December 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member We use the NOAA official site, at present our historic weather will be limited to the NOAA 24-hour historic data cycle, but this will soon be extended to 96 hour history. Other military servers are very restricted in their METAR coverage so we may not use those. But you should also read our historic weather and saving static themes topics, or just save the OpusWeather.txt file for reuse at some later date, there are plenty of options. But RW weather is what we really concentrate on at the moment. Regards Stephen
December 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi All I have edited the above post which I incorrectly hinted at a 24-hour limit for historic data, that is only true at the moment but we will soon be extending that to include up to 96 hour (4 day) historic data option. Again extracting data only from official NOAA sources, not any unreliable private or military servers. Regards Stephen :-)
December 5, 201213 yr Can it do flight planning stuff ala what I showed how to do with AS2012 in the NGX Tutorial #2 Addendum? This to me is one of AS2012's greatest features - I get easy to read printouts of the average wind and ISA deviation for the PERF INIT page and then waypoint-specific winds aloft predictions to use with the DES FORECAST page. I have a bunch of real life route printouts from several major airlines and the formatting and information AS2012 gives you is exactly like what the real dispatch papers have on them. Ryan, Why don't you use AS2012 for the flight planning and texture loading and then shut it down and fire up Opus? That's what I am going to do. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2 This is exactly what I am doing and the winds and temps from both addons match up perfectly, AS2012 runs on my laptop, I disabled its ability to use simconnect and connect to fsx, I have opus installed just on my fsx pc, so I use the opus for weather and get all my winds and temps for planning from the as2012 UI, a great solution for now.
