December 6, 201213 yr I bougt the iFly 737NG and I cant use the auto pilot like the FSX default plane. There are 4 auto pilot modes the CMD A, CMD B, CWS A, and CWS B. which one do you use to set the ALT HLD to fly say at 5000ft? I just can't get the plane to automatically fly to any altitude I set. I really would appreciate if somebody can tell me simply hoe to fly it like the default 737 plane. The manual that comes with it is nearly 500 pages and its so complicated for me. stelios Stelios Christofides
December 6, 201213 yr hi stelios. haven't got the IFLY 737,i use the PMDG 737NGX. I would say that you need to dial in 5000ft into autopilot .;then 1800 into climb rate.turn that on make sure you have Trim set for correct pitch in climb.dial in your takeoff heading and turn that on once you take off ,make sure aircraft is straight and in a steady climb.RAISE Gear, once it is fully up.trim down a bit .then try pressing CMD A. this should take over control of your autopilot.you can now set Auto throttle to climb speed.this is about as near to flying the Default 737 you will get in the IFLY 737 steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
December 6, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your answers Word Not Allowed and steve Word Not Allowed you are right what you re saying but I just wanted first to see hoe it handles and "play" a bit before I spend hours and hours of how to fly it. stelios Stelios Christofides
December 6, 201213 yr Author Word Not Allowed and Steve When I press CMD A the light comes up but when I then press ALT HLD (to reach 5000ft) it flashes but never stays on, the same with Vertical speed,They just don't stay on. With the level D aircraft I have no problem setting the vertical speed. Is something else (windows plug-in) that I have to install to make the VS to stay on? Maybe my 737 is defective. stelios Stelios Christofides
December 6, 201213 yr I havent flown the IFly in quite a while but as I recall, you need to make sure you have ZERO pressure on the yoke or the AP will not engage, or will disengage if already engaged.....you really have to go through the manual on this one Jay
December 6, 201213 yr Stelios , I hate to tell you, but you have purchased a complicated A/C which will require some learning, whether reading or watching some youtube. There is alot more to it than a simple button push.
December 6, 201213 yr You won't be able to use the autopilot, unless you at least load the PERF INIT data in the FMC. Then you should be able to use the basic autopilot functions except LNAV and VNAV. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
December 6, 201213 yr Try the tutorial, in the end it will save you time and frustration. It will also start your understanding of how things work. If you are just after a slightly better model than the default then give up now as it is a completely different beast.... G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
December 7, 201213 yr Author Guys I know that I bought a complicated aircraft and if I really want to fly it by the book then I have to read the manual, but I also believe that using the basic AP functions ( as Word Not Allowed said) I should be able to do it without touching the FMC. The level D 767 is also a complicated aircraft but I can use the Auto Pilot features with out the touching the FMC. stelios Stelios Christofides
December 7, 201213 yr Author Word Not Allowed I am flying the correct plane. I have a picture to show you but I haven't got the option here to upload it so you can see it. I am not flying the default plane all I want is to be able to fly this beautiful plane the same way I fly the level D without the FMC. stelios Stelios Christofides
December 7, 201213 yr Not quite sure about that. As I said, not using iFly, but on the NGX, I can use all the basic AP functions without touching the FMC. And NGX is supposed to be real-to-life model. Just tried it with the IFly 737, you are right PERF INIT data is not required for the AP to function, however it will not engage unless the IRS is aligned, which means at the very least the reference or GPS Coordinates have to be entered in the POS Init page of the FMC. Once that is done, the AP works properly (Except LNAV and VNAV of course.) Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
December 7, 201213 yr Author So is that all I have to enter in the FMC as below (taken from the manual): POS INIT page: Verify that the time is correct. Enter the present position on the SET IRS POS line. Use the most accurate latitude and longitude. stelios Stelios Christofides
December 7, 201213 yr So is that all I have to enter in the FMC as below (taken from the manual): POS INIT page: Verify that the time is correct. Enter the present position on the SET IRS POS line. Use the most accurate latitude and longitude. stelios You have to set the 2 IRS switches on the overhead to NAV, then set the POS Init coords. You can use either the Last Pos coord Which should be shown on the page. Enter the Reference Airport (The one you are at) then use those coord. Or on the page 2 the GPS Coordinates (These are the most accurate) For your purposes though the Last Pos coordinates should suffice. Note depending how your IFly IRS options are set up it will align immediately up to 10 minutes. If it's the latter and you want to speed things up, you need to change the option. It's in the option menu on the FMC. The IFly manual should show you how and where to change that setting if needed. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
