November 19, 201411 yr I say that because I lose the connection even with FSUIPC. But pausing, then, alt-tabbing, has worked for me so far. Miguel Rodríguez
November 23, 201411 yr Can anyone please confirm this is an FSX only issue? I might try go back to FS2004 if I'm entirely sure that this problem won't occur on FS9.
December 20, 201411 yr I run Win7 and don't have this issue, but I did stumble across this, and wonder if anyone has tried it for the joystick disconnect problem. I note that my joysticks have dual entries in Device Manager for both HID controller and USB Input device...this registry setting is on the USB Input Device line. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2900614/en-us Regards Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
December 21, 201411 yr That's been mentioned before, but thanks anyway. The trouble is that the USB devices is not "suspended". It is still visible in the Windows 8 calibration app. It just disappears from the sim. Power management seems to only cure a small number of joystick dropouts in Win 8. What's left is probably a combination of joystick driver issues and a general flaw in Windows 8.
December 21, 201411 yr So has anyone on this megathread actually solved the issue? Because I don't quite have the time to look through 57 pages of forum posts. :/ Colin Kennedy PMDG 737 NGX Pilot VATSIM controller, zDV, S3 rating Real world Student Pilot
December 21, 201411 yr It can't be "solved", since it's an incompatibility between certain joystick drivers and Win 8. Here's my take, but you probably should still skim through the thread: 1. Some people get relief by changing the power settings on their USB hubs and devices so that Windows doesn't try to shut them down when Inactive. 2. A considerably larger number of people use FSUIPC to control their joystick and that works for some unknown reason. 3. P3d 2.4 will still stop displaying the joystick setting in its UI, but the joystick keeps working. 4. My experience with FSX SE is that I haven't lost my joystick yet, but time will tell. Most people using FSX know better than to use Win 8 though.
December 21, 201411 yr I tried all the things given as solutions except Steam. Nothing consistent. Created a new dual boot system with 7 & 8.1 and that works flawless.
December 23, 201411 yr I have the same problem. My joystick is configured through FSUIPC and disabled in P3D. However my joystick stops working mid-flight even though it's still alive in the Game Controllers config of Win 8.1. I can't get the joystick to reconnect and have to restart P3D to get it working. John doe
December 27, 201411 yr Can anyone please confirm this is an FSX only issue? I might try go back to FS2004 if I'm entirely sure that this problem won't occur on FS9. It's not i experience it in ARMA 3 and DCS also Joystick: Topgun afterburner I experience the same problems only i experience them also in ARMA 3 and DCS. I called microsoft who after many hard words about how this is a broken product and i need to give them the opertunity to fix it within reasonable time and otherwise i want my money back. They offered a few solutions: A windows support team FOR 85 EURO's, with no garanty they can fix it. Or the email adress of microsoft flight: [email protected] . ofcourse it is a windows problem so they can't help. However they're still working on other games so it is not a dead adress. And i think they can put more pressure on microsoft than we can so maybe all emailling that adress with the same line as me: I called microsoft <the problem> and they directed me to this adress. maybe if we all do that we can create pressure for microsoft to fix this. Recently i've bought it on steam and gues what it works now. No more disconnects. Personally i think this is a conspiracy of steam and windows to make us all buy in to the DLC fest that will happen with steam. I usually don't think this way but since this is a 3 year old problem almost and the solution comes with steam i pretty much don't think there is another explanation if there isn't any other solution. Paying 1000's of euro's to get a nice sim and get screwed by windows with a easy fix issue since they know where it comes from.
December 27, 201411 yr It's not i experience it in ARMA 3 and DCS also Thanks, I've already downgraded to Win 7 in the mean time and it's OK right now.
December 30, 201411 yr I seemed to have solved my problems by not switching windows while in the approach. Previously I would switch to another window to view a chart or wx. When I would switch back to FSX the joystick would no longer be recognized. I've now done two approaches and landings where I've never switched windows and stayed with FSX the entire time. Joystick remained functional. I think this may have been my problem, though I don't know if it is the problem for the rest of you. Try it out. Config: Saitek AV8R-01 joystick, FSX with SP1/2. December 31, 201411 yr If you read through this thread, you will notice people report that when the main sim window loses focus, that's when the joystick disappears. If MS doesn't want to fix it in its dead end OS of Win 8, there's nothing much that can be done.

January 7, 201511 yr You might want to find out from someone else. I use P3d most of the time and don't use FSX-SE very much. But when I have used it, my joystick stays alive.
January 8, 201511 yr Hi all, I'm on Win 7-64, but I'm working together with a friend of mine, to find a solution for the problem on Win 8.1. Although we have not find a solution, we noticed a possible trace for someone who is more expert. My friend own a Saitek X52 Pro, and is subjected to the "joystick loss" problem, but today, he noticed this: when the joystick stops to respond in FSX, often due to some action in other programs windows, he seemed to be able to "revive" the joystick, simply opening and reclosing the file SaiFlightSimX.xml using the notepad. That file is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Saitek\DirectOutput. Maybe, some similar module is existing also for other brands of controllers. Now, I know it's not a solution, but it could be a useful information to work on for some expert. Mauro
