December 8, 201213 yr How can this Guy be BANNED even for one minute. You should be ashamed that a Vet is stopped from posting here for a month because he chose to express his excitement with a harmless JOKE.how can that be. The fact that he was a First time poster is even more astonishing. There are going to be a lot of Astounded users here, like me when they read he was banned. Ray i expect the rules to apply to anyone, doesn't matter whether he's a RTD Airforce pilot or not and probably someone will quote a rule that he supposedly broke. Paul Deemer you should be ashamed of yourself.you feel good he was banned for a month?? are we now all safe in our beds because the big bad man can't say naughty things . I fully expect to be banned for taking RJ's side.should i care..yes.would i miss the Draconian rules here...not for 1 second there are some very good people on here, some of the best in the many forums i visit. PHXMD-11 JOHAN 777FAN Thanks for understanding what i was trying to get across here. will continue to post in this thread until I'm Banned or post is locked.that will then be the last time i use the PMDG forums. steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
December 8, 201213 yr I was also shocked that rather then a warning the guy was promptly banned for a month. If its a new user give him a chance before bringing the hammer down on him? I suspect after his 30 days are up he won't be returning, which is a real shame as a naval pilot of 20+ years can potentially inject volumes of aviation knowledge into our small community. Unfortunately our community is now even smaller. Sent from my iPhone...typing errors imminent AJ Pongress
December 8, 201213 yr Author Hi We should all be encouraging people into the Forums,Not slapping them down for there First minor mistake. if he chooses not to return, who can blame him.that will be two more who don't use these forums anymore. as you say a 20+ year Vet pilot is a real mine of information.how could they do that to him. cheers 777 steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
December 8, 201213 yr That's the really bad thing about this community, ppl who manage it doesn't have idea how to do the job.
December 8, 201213 yr well what did he do to get banned? There is always a reason? Could you kindly link to the incident?
December 8, 201213 yr PHXMD-11 Thanks for that, but there are better people on these forums than me. If its a new user give him a chance before bringing the hammer down on him? It is not our place to have a say in how punishments are given in these forums. That is in the hands of the moderators, no matter how strict/humorless they may be. well what did he do to get banned? December 8, 201213 yr That's the really bad thing about this community, ppl who manage it doesn't have idea how to do the job. Yeah it's so terribly mismanaged nobody wants to visit or post here. Randy Swofford
December 9, 201213 yr Well that whole thread went down hill very quickly lol. I'm not going to post in this topic again. IMO the topic should've been closed. Just because he is a vet (I have a lot of respect for veterans) doesn't mean doesn't need I follow the same rules. The ban was probably justifiable too. With that I say goodbye It's water under the bridge now Cheers Lee
December 9, 201213 yr Author It is not our place to have a say in how punishments are given in these forums. That is in the hands of the moderators, no matter how strict/humorless they may be. yep absolutely correct mate.what you also have here are several Armchair admins who choose to stoke the fires.myself i'm a 30year drummer,i've heard every swear word known to man and some that are not.I've had bottles of urine thrown at me,been spat at in the Barrows in glasgow(you scots will know the place)and i'm very thick skinned.I also have retained a sense of humour.it's unfortunate that as some people get older they lose that... steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
December 9, 201213 yr The title of rjmcgill's thread describes perfectly the trend here lately of some users nitpicking others' posts. I dunno, it must be an OC disorder thing. I suppose using the expression "fubar" will be the next bannable offense. After all, it does contain the "f" word. I wonder if people have the same hyper-sensitivity in truck driver forums? December 9, 201213 yr While I don't think someone's external status should have any reflection on how they treated or on how they are allowed to behave on the forums, after all we often seen the false claims made by people as to what their real world status is. Having read the offending posting, I to agree the actions and comments by certain members here is disgusting and also think AVSIMs actions to be somewhat questionable. I visit avsim forums less and less lately, for two reasons, one PMDGs presence is virtually non existent, and not just in relation to updates about progress of their products and sps but even in relation to general discussion about existing products or aviation procedures. But two, and the main reason is the ever increasing politics of the forums, wading through pages of posts that stray off topic each time by users who decide to critique the ops question/statement, spelling, grammar, view, signature. Someone could ask a simple question like where the apu switch, and it probably contain the answer in one post surrounded by 20 others from users who have promoted themselves to some level of management. Not all posts need to "achieve" something at end of the day the ticket system is there for that. General discussion can be just as interesting to read, and other users are entitled to disagree with a view, but not make it a personal attack on the user because opinion is different. I spend more time on sim forums now, specifically opus, as not only are there non of the insane politics and inflated egos but the developer actively engages with his customers and responds to both questions and support, while constantly updating the product all from a team of 2. I found the original post non offensive, yes maybe a better title could have been used and a simple pm from admin could have corrected that. But the user simply expressed an opinion about fingerprints, complemented PMDG on their excellent products, showed his desire for wanting more and introduced himself to the community. There was an element of fun and humour to the post also. Yes it may or may not have been a post that would achieve anything, but lets say we all took attitude that expressing an opinion about a feature of the PMDG range was pointless, then how would PMDG ever be able to judge if they getting things right, or how they could continue to improve them? I actually find the "creeping" "worshipping" posts far more annoying. PMDG make excellent products, but nobody is that perfect, constructive criticism should always be welcomed, everyone always has potential to be better, otherwise the NGX would just be same as 747 we wouldn't have the improvements we have. I have no fear of being banned as I'm finding very little benefit from being a member of AVSIM at present, a statement that saddens me as I've found avsim to be a useful and great place to be over my many years of simming, for forums, news, and downloads. But recent policy changes, system changes, and certain members are making it hard work. Regards James Carr
December 9, 201213 yr +1, it's sad what happened. I am not sure what will happen but last night I reported the Mod who banned him. I never did like that Mod, always felt he was a jerk and over used his power. The guy should have given him a warning. One thing else that in that topic another mod posted and did not care about the title. December 9, 201213 yr Can I ask also that all users who post RTFM be banned...one it contains a f word, and two the time it took to post that you could have actually answered the ops question or at least directed them to the relevant section of the said manual for a full answer. Regards James Carr
December 9, 201213 yr I agree that the title of the thread was not the most appropriate for a civilized forum, but it went with the original poster's style, and a warning or a less-severe punishment would have probably been fairer for a first-time poster.
December 9, 201213 yr Can I ask also that all users who post RTFM be banned... No because... that would be too consistent.
