FS9 vs FSX ?

Featured Replies

Merry Christmas everyone ... time to move on to 2013 ... maybe to obtain more wisdom and stop this senseless merry-go-round.

Time to comprehend how to learn the SEARCH ENGINE too!

WELL SAID!

-FSX has better graphics, but less performance

-FS9 has better performance, but less graphics

Is that really true ?? If we are going to compare performance between FSX and FS9 the sliders should be set so they have equal quality. Remember that FSX can make use of multiple cores and FS9 can't. When I used FS9 it is true that it displayed higher fps and less stutter than FSX. But then FSX looked better graphics wise.

I got bored with X-plane: After I won the first two big boss battles and got to the level where you storm the alien mothership, I just lost track of where the plot was going and gave up.

:LMAO:

And they ALL look just as good as their FSX equivalents?

Not all of it, things like MegaScenery New York obviously look better in FSX. But even a high-end computer won't run that on full detail with a high-end plane add-on plus heavy AI.

So in reality, for most of us FSX provides screenshot eye-candy which is much better, but FS9 allows more system depth in planes and heavy graphic detail plus lots of AI plane and ground traffic or AES at the same time.

So overall, for me immersion is higher on FS9 even though on paper FSX has better resolution graphics, bump mapping and interior shadows for planes.

Not true. Nothing is better in FS9, not even performance. Not anymore.

It's old, superseded and should just be forgotten.

Just like these sarcastic, elitist, condescending comments from certain FSXers toward those who still use and enjoy FS9.

Will someone please lock this pointless thread. This horse has been beaten to death for the 5,000th time.

X-plane 10 and FSX will be sufficient on mid-range 500 to thousand computer. X-Plane good one for backup and re-installing fsx onto another machine is pain compared to X-plane. X-plane no blurries or CTD and never have to worry about it puking like FSX. FS9 is great for historical flights love 1950s era Phoenix and Vegas flight I have done on it.

Did anyone not see this coming? I tried to set a more positive tone for the thread when I made the second post in it. Maybe it worked for a while. But in the end, it will always degenerate into what we see here.

C'mon guys, enjoy what you have and let other people enjoy what they have. It's not like this is some product that gained market share by some skillful hype without being able to deliver.

FS9 or FSX............Coke or Pepsi..........McDonald's or Wendy's.............Dunkin' Donuts or Tim Horton's

FS9 does look awesome with REX, AES, Ultimate Traffic at 100%, Aerosoft or FSDT Airport, etc.......all running at over 70-100fps on a new rig.

Coke or Pepsi

I used to drink Pepsi. Now I drink Coke. :)

An even more useless argument is Ford vs Chevrolet, which from the viewpoint of a Mercedes driver is pretty much the height of silliness.

The fact that the FSX fan-boys cannot keep out of the FS9 forums speaks volumes.

I would like to see the mods putting a ban on the likes of Mr Pinto etc from using the FS9 forums.

I made the switch from FS9 to FSX about 1 year ago. With a system that can run it and the necessary tweaks it looks awesome and run really well. I simply can not go back to FS9 as the VC controls in fs9 without 3rd party payware camera systems is total garbage in comparison. If you prefer the 2D panels and your system is low end to even possibly medium (by standards of 2011) then stick with FS9, if not then FSX and some tweaks should be what you are looking for.

Also most 3rd Party developers are making content primarily for FSX/P3D now, so keep that in mind.

On occasion, when frustrated with FSX, I've stepped back in time and re-installed FS9. All I can say is that it is extremely sterile feeling, not the least of which because must have addons, such as Ezdok, don't exist for it, and it has incentivized me to immediately return to FSX and work through whatever issue I'm having. Most of the great planes you hear about from the FS9 era, such as the Dreamfleet 727 or the SSTsim Concorde, or whatever, were all optimized around the concept of flying in a 2D cockpit. The VCs of those planes are terrible by today's standards--sure you have planes like the maddog or the pmdg aircraft, but in my opinion, the best way forward, is always forward.

That's all good for you and I do appreciate your opinion. But I am happy with 2d panels and FS9. I hate VC's with a passion and will never use them. Call me old fashioned or stuck in a long ago time, but I am happy there. And while the Carenado planes do look good, I tried to use the VC's and just didn't like it. I really did try to like it. So the plane was deleted from my computer.
