Black Box - Airbus Xtreme Part 1

it looks good and the throttle works  :LMAO:

the plane flies nice and the outside model is very nice.... too bad that the Virtual cockpit looks like a JustFlight airbus... years behind the one from Aerosoft (except the displays that look real...)

If BBS could have done a VC as nice of the Aerosoft one, the whole plane would be globally better.

too much, too soon....

I'm really impressed, the BBS PFD, ND, ECAM etc. looks much more real to me than AAE! & that they are pop-ups is a huge+++++ in my book.....only the PFD pop-up wasn't exactly Airbus(round ADI?) hope this will be fixed? The VC looks OK. I'm an FDE, instrument, hand-flyer kind of guy...so if I can shoot an non-precision approach, with proper to RW instruments that have good refresh rate, I'm happy! I hope the manual flying FBW will be good.

Kind regards
R.G

I'm actually finding the BBS Airbus quite good, and continually improving.

My only disappointment so far is the lack of liveries (since the new v0.6 release), does anyone know where I could find some (especially Jetstar).

Where can I find the ANZ livery used in the video above?

Your surely not suggesting the throttle didn't work?

How can any developer release an add-on aircraft in which the throtlle doesn't work?

I still haven't flown the Aerosoft Bus yet since I bought it last week, throttle fix and patches didn't work. I'm gonna do a full re-install of fsx soon and see if it works.

Do you use fsuipc? I had issues as well, but got my Saitek quadrant working first with the Linda luas and then I found the .ini file, even easier, and now I have my quadrant working and calibrated fully via fsuipc, same as the NGX.

There's nothing wrong with the Airbus X Extended Throttles, if you follow the instructions given:-

1. Assign throttle to "Throttle" in FSX Assignments (not FSUIPC).

2. (Make sure you have not assigned it to "Throttle 1" etc, just "Throttle").

3. Make sure only one physical hardware device / axis is assigned to "Throttle".

As for the BBS ...... well I bought the Prologue and I bought the Aerosoft X Extended, and I have nothing to do with either organisation. But I can honestly say that the Airbus X Extended is my close second favourite aircraft ever released for FS (after the NGX obviously), and the BBS, is for me, just unflyable in terms of functionality, has awful sounds and lack of ambience (default FS GA fuel pump sound say no more!), and as has been said the VC is very "PSS" or "Just Flight" standard, whereas the Aerosoft bus's is almost NGX standard IMHO.

  • 3 weeks later...

I went and bought the Airbus X Extended last week and had little issues with setting it up.

The throttle problem did come up but that was due to a dodgy installation after applying patch v.1.03b manually, I just uninstalled the whole thing, re-installed using the v1.03b installer and all worked well after that. I have to say I'm very impressed with the eye-candy and sounds of the AXE and have taken it on several flights around EU and Australia. It's not perfect as I found a few bugs that came up particularly once when it decided to veer off course from the route on it's own banking to the left, I simply had to use the DIRECT TO function on the FMGC to get it back on course. Some of the SIDs and STARs that I've programmed don't come up correctly either but that could be due to me using the NaviGraph database instead, not sure...

I also took out the v0.61 of the BBS Airbus for a flight from YBBN to YBCS last night and even though it isn't yet finished I somehow found flying it to feel more 'real' to me particularly hand-flying with FBW and flight dynamics in general, the Airbus X Extended feels a bit too stiff when hand flying and not very responsive to control inputs. One of the things the BBS doesn't yet have is a load manager but for now I just do all my loads manually using Excel spreadsheets to add up ZFW etc and enter it all in during pre-flight.

There are systems such as hydraulics, pressurisation, ADIRU alignment etc that aren't yet modeled in the BBS that the AXE has but I still found that if you start up from cold-and-dark the BBS comes fairly close. The AXE displays pressurisation on the ECAM but there's no manual control on the overhead panel anyway. There are other small details in the FMCG in the BBS that the AXE doesn't have such as calculating your optimum cruise altitude as well as the pink vertical profile 'doughnut' on the PFD during managed descents. I also think the BBS does a better job now with calculating TOD and managed descent.

So overall, points in the eye-candy department and 'wow' factor definitely go to the AXE but at the end I have to say that at the moment I prefer the BBS Airbus due to it's more 'realistic' depiction of flight model and some of the systems.

Guess at the end of the day I'm more interested in how an aircraft actually functions rather than how pretty it is.

I uninstaled BBS, definitely not for me! Maybe one day FSL...

But I had a really big surprize 2 days ago. FlashIsisMayia told me last week about AirSimmer v1.4. I decided to try it, i have tried v1.1 but never managed to get that bus to work properly. Until now... And AirSimmer is so good that i didn't touched my FSX, Maddog, NGX etc after that (for 3 days now)! It's just perfect. Almost perfect, becouse it's only basic version, but good news is that project is not dead, and it's realy excelent aircraft. FBW feels like in real full flight simulator, and plane respons excelent to joystick inputs. I use real procedures and everything works so perfect, the best takke off roll ever! And FBW is just perfect! Graphics are the best I've seen in fs9, sounds are just awesome, etc, etc...

Thank you FlashIsisMayia, i can't belive i didn't know about this!
