I'm an ex X-Plane 10 convert

Good job rising this old  thread back to life with such an ignorant post.

The truth is both FSX and X Plane 10 are about equally bad if you don't spend money to improve them with addons. X Plane does certain things better than FSX and the other way around, still only high quality (mostly payware) addon aircraft allow you to really simulate things properly.

Last time I checked with X Plane I could still hear a loud tire screeching sound on touchdown with a Boeing 747 and that's totally unrealistic, so how is it a real simulator if FSX isn't?

I have to disagree with you.

You need Money to make FSX look good.

You don't need money to make X-plane 10 look good.

Everything in the below screenshot, except the 757, is a free add-on.

I agree about the tires, however some add-on craft take care of that issue.

What about FS2Crew? TrackIR and Ezdok? FSUIPC? LINDA?

X-plane 10

No-FS2Crew (not sure what or why I need this)

Yes- TrackIR

No- Ezdock (why would you need something already built in the Flightsim?)

Yes - FSUIPC (google XFSUIPC)

What is LINDA?

And don't hold your breath about the P3Dv2. I have messed about in the beta, and it looks like P3D with better menus. (ps: Most of my FSX Add-ons don't work)

  • Actually, I COULD show you scenery and aircraft to the standards you specified, but what's the point?  There are many people, like yourself, who are convinced that no one will ever top the developers

  • There is another thread running on this site right now you may wish to read Jim.   Why are flight simmers so rude to each other.

  • If he is in the Beta team, he's under NDA and not allowed to talk about it. Better for us to not ask anything about P3D V2!!   About X-Plane. People's argument is, I have too much money invested in

Can you expound on this, are you on the Beta team?

What does and doesn't work, how are the graphics etc...

Please start a thread in the P3D section, myself and many others would like to know.

Thanks

Nice. They sure look the same as the August textures. Oh, wait, they are.

About X-Plane. People's argument is, I have too much money invested in FSX, so this makes FSX better. It's like saying Vista is better, because after spending tons of money with utilities that made the interface look less crappy, I don't need Windows 7, that has all that and more built in.

The fact that people are so reluctant to see FSX as being totally obsolete is holding back this hobby so much... The developers have to focus so much of their time trying to get their complex addon to fit the obsolete FS code so that users don't get the dreaded OOM message, don't get any artifacts, between other things. In the mean time, there are several simulators using all the latest technology, making things much easier and scalable, and they focus on more important things such as better physics.

NVidia doesn't care about FSX, and one day I fear their newer drivers will just stop supporting legacy applications for the newest cards. That will also happen with newer Windows editions. It's just a matter of time.

My opinion. Doesn't like it? That's fine... I'm just tired of FSX and it's 7 year old limitations! 64 bit, proper Multi Threading support, Real 3d Clouds, bring it on!!!

NVidia doesn't even know what X Plane is.

Enjoy what you like, and like what you enjoy.

Do you?

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Agreed with the guy that said what a stupid way to resurrect the thread.

x-plane has many good features, a few recent posts show that people don't know what is available for the platform when they list things like no TIR, no ezdok etc.

What a silly way to start the thread up, not sure what the point was.

Most people here have no idea how has X Plane developed in just last couple of weeks/months. The true story here is the add ons available for FSX. Bare FSX is so much worse than bare X Plane. As these add ons started to come to X Plane, there is no other advantage remaining for FSX.

Maybe there are no proper season textures in X Plane YET. However there is much higher immersion of seasonal flying there.

Let's take PMDG's 777 during winter storm to cross the Atlantic. You'll see nice winter textures on the ground during your taxi and takeoff and maybe some snow flakes while climbing. That is the whole pilot's immersion. And the only thing freezing will be your screen.

Do the same with FF's 777 on X Plane. Yes, you'll miss some white color on the ground, but you will sweat yourself trying to avoid the red areas on your weather radar (we do have one in XPX), handling turbulence and dealing with icing.

I have FSX installed and do enjoy both (well, the X Plane a little bit more). The thing is, that the FSX is obsolete and cannot survive in comparison with modern, 64 bit, advanced platforms.

And your point being?  You asked for winter textures and I gave them to you.........Oh you want unrealistic snow in areas that don't normally have snow or snow on the ground 100% of the time. Yea, What ever.

You are extremely short sighted.

newsigsmall_zpsd5afd46e.jpg

No, those are summer textures with snow caped mountains. They would look the same in December, March, July, or October. They would look the same if it was snowing or raining.

Show me a snow covered airport, located in Kansas, in January. Then I'll say you are showing me winter textures.

FSX in DX10 is fully capable of using Dynamic Shadows, but it has to be built into the model. Unfortunately most do not. So just the default, and some GA models can do it. With the DX10 fixer utility, they look pretty good! PMDG and a few others adds reflections to their displays as well.

Thanks

Right, But it is not native in FSX was the point. =)

Show me an airport in Kansas that is cover in snow for the whole winter...............

We can keep going if you like. The point is I have been a MSFS fan since the late 80's, and I have Owned X-plane since V8. Xplane has been crap up until X-plane 10. So say what you would like about it, but you will one day find you self all lone at the snowy Kansas airport in FSX.
