FSX Road Traffic Problem

Featured Replies

On some roads, ususally divided highways there are images of road traffic imbedded in the road texture itself and the moving road traffic appears above them. The attached jpeg shows the problem. My addons are UTX USA, UTX Canada and Orbx Pacific Northwest. I'm hoping someone my have experienced this problem and can suggest a solution. Thanks.

Doesn't UTX have an option to either display those "static traffic textures" or not to display them?

Alternatively, some texture addon like REX could cause that issue. I think I remember, that there was a set of free REX road textures, or actually two of them: one with the images of cars, pretending that there's traffic, and a second one without them.

Edit to add: Found it, it's really by REX. In case you're interested, here's the link: http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2794-rex-roads-fsx-only/ (You need to be logged in in their forums to view and download those textures, though).

Hi Dave.

It isn't great news I'm afraid. These flattened cars aren't a bug persay, but a way by the developer to add the appearance of traffic, much like some photo scenery that looks great from 5000ft but flat and lifeless near the ground.

To the best of my knowledge, there's nothing you can do about it. The moving traffic is just FSX adding it the road based on your slider settings.

Best wishes,

Jess B

I also think that's UTX. You have an option to select road textures without cars on them.

It's UTX. Just disable the car imprints.

Correct.

NO THAT IS NOT CORRECT! Utimate Terrain has an option for disabling MOVING traffic, and I do not see an option for disabling non-moving traffic. When you select it, it says that moving traffic can cause a major fps hit in large urban areas, so one might consider turning it off near big cities. So the problem of how to remove stationary traffic remains.

BTW, I wish Ultimate Terrain and Ultimate traffic did not both have the abbreviation UT, which can cause confusion. So maybe we should spell it out instead of using UT.

UTX does not control animated traffic.

What was said earlier is correct. Go into the texture options for the roads and de-select the checkboxes for adding car textures into the road textures.

Open UTX --- in the menu bar click on TERRAIN -- then click on Change Road Surface Textures -- look at the far right column -- this is where your issue lies remove the checkmarks for adding auto imprint and save- you're finished

Ahh I never knew I could remove those ugly boxes on the roads with a UTX setting.

Thanks

Thanks for all the help guys. The problem was indeed caused by the Road Surface Textures in UTX.

There's actually quite a bit you can do if you go through the top menus in UTX config program. Worth exploring IMO.

Just on a sidenote: Noone abbreviates those programs with UT alone, there's always the third letter, which makes it clear: UTX is Ultimate Terrain X, and UT2 is Ultimate Traffic 2, and in most threads it should be obvious, which of the two is talked about. I understand that it may cause confusion, especially for those who are new to the forums, but I think it is legit to abbreviate them, especially because it would be annoying to type the whole name all the time.

Besides, even I remember that UTX has only the option to display "static traffic"(i.e. pictures of cars on the road textures), but does not control road traffic, and I quit using UTX long ago due to performance reasons(and, btw UT2, too).

UTX does not control animated traffic.

We seem to have different version of the program: when I start the UTX USA Setup Tool, a window appears that rapidly goes through a check list, then there is a list of items on the right that can be expanded with a plus sign. The first item at the top is "roads". If I expand that, the two bottom items are for "moving traffic" on freeways and on major roads. If I select it, It say that if I disable it, there will be no moving traffic and an "activate" button appears below. The "activate" buttoon on the bottom of the list turns items on or off (there is no checkbox next to the items). There is NO mention anywhere of static traffic, nor is there any item titled "terrain". there is an item "terrain" in the menu bar, but it has only options for changing road colors and stuff like that, and I don't see any options for changing traffic.
