March 13, 201313 yr Glad you guys are enjoying the lights.txt hack I for one do like the difference and don't think they look like FSX at all. FSX lighting looks cartoonish. March 13, 201313 yr Looks way better than FSX for sure. This looks more realistic than the default. Default is way too small and dark. Flying at night you can barely see anything but little pixels of dots here and there. March 13, 201313 yr I actually like the default lighting better. More realistic. I must say I agree - I took the new lights out for a spin with their most tame version and found it to be VERY much like FSX's lights... a little over done... at least from the runway perspective. The roads looked nice, but approach-to-landing was lit up like a rave... especially that PAPI. Eyikes. Different strokes for different folks, I guess - no fault to those who like them whatsoever, but I'll revert to the defaults for now. Good work, CK - even if it's not my cup o' tea!

March 16, 201313 yr I really like this! Now I can actually see the street lights when up over 25k feet. The only thing I don't really enjoy as much is the airport lighting. I've been complaining about them being too dark, but now they're just the other way around. However I just love the halo effect I get when looking out over the city while sitting on the runway.

Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2

Richard 7950x3d | 32Gb 6000mHz RAM | 8Tb NVme | RTX 4090 | MSFS | P3D | XP12
March 17, 201313 yr I just pulled up the original file and compared it to the modified. It's quite easy to adjust parameters just the way you want it. I dimmed down centerline, edge and taxi lights, papi/pasi and some others. took me 15 minutes to figure it out. Flo Flo B.
March 17, 201313 yr Flob so you can individually adjust specific runway lights independently of street lights, and such? March 17, 201313 yr +1. I have been trying to get verified for over 3 weeks, not ever getting the validation email from them. An alternativie would be much appreciated. Well finally someone else besides ME has this issue. I think I've attempted a dozen times for validation there, sending emails and messages to supposed admins with not a word back. I can only wonder what its about, and yet everyone seems to link to them. Anyone with any helpful input? cheers captains, i7-9700K, MSI Z370, PNY 4070 Super, GTX 750Ti, 32GB GSkill, 43" curved Samsung, 32" BenQ, 11" LED, RealSImGear GTN750, Win10, P3DV5.4/P3DV6 and MSFS, several GoFlight modules, Saitek radio, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Virtual Fly TQ6.
March 17, 201313 yr I think this mod makes night flying more realistic, look at a video here of a real night flight and compare for yourself. Link isn't working, so click on watch on youtube and move it forward to about the 5:30 mark. March 18, 201313 yr It's quite easy to adjust parameters just the way you want it. I dimmed down centerline, edge and taxi lights, papi/pasi and some others. took me 15 minutes to figure it out. Hmm - I'll have to reinstall and experiment! I certainly do like it's brightening of the streetlights and aesthetics, but actual airport related lighting was a bit too "stern" for me. Good idea! -Greg

I think these lighting enhancements by chris k are going to differ for everyone depending on texture resolution settings/texture compression etc. I tried the lowest set as I run HDR 2xSSAA+FXAA and the ramp lighting, car park lighting was way too much for my settings. I did as Flo suggested and put the original file back in and then looked at the changes Chris had made for the approach lighting, runway edge lights and PAPI's and just changed these. The effect for me now is spot on. Thanks for the suggestion Flo, and thanks for the 'hack' Chris  Regards Simon
March 18, 201313 yr Flob so you can individually adjust specific runway lights independently of street lights, and such? Yes, you can. It's a simple txt file and lists all lights that are in the sim. Each light has a few parameters, some of them quite tricky, but chrisk adjusted just the size of billboards/ and or lights (afaik). You'll find his comments and developer's explanations on how the parameters work in the file too. It looks complicated at the first glimpse but it isn't (at least if you're just going to dimm some airport lights). Hint: Don't allow your txt-editor to do word-wrapping. It's much easier to read and edit then. Hint2: All this comes without any warranty Flo B.
March 18, 201313 yr Thanks but what app do you guys use to open these up? I've tried wordpad and notepad on Windows 7 and with or without wordwrap is still looks kind of misaligned and hard to read. Also do you guys just edit the 'size' column mostly when changing the lights or what? I'm trying to adjust the blue edge lighting on the runways to make them a little dimmer and add more light bloom effect but not sure what columns I need to change. Please help. Thanks.
