March 18, 201313 yr As long as there is a CPU & GPU combo that can FSX acceptably, simmers will continue to buy add-ons. XPX 64 has potential if devs jump on board. Sure, but that's 'FSX acceptably' in its current state. It already suffers from the memory limits of 32-bit so really the depth and detail in the sim is pretty much maxed out. It's 7 years old. 3 years from now it will be 10 years old. It's gone as far as it can really. As you say once devs jump on board I think the writing will be on the wall for FSX. I still believe P3D could move to 64 bit code--as I say, LR did it on 3 platforms. FTX Global will be a big leap forward to improving the entire world with one add-on. I see (crystal ball) more simmers moving to FSX than to XPX 64. The reason is simple, the add-ons. XPX just doesn't have the dev support and probably never will. MSFS
March 18, 201313 yr Author Anyone who is getting flawless performance in FSX with super smooth framerates and no stutters is clearly not trying hard enough. My framerates still dip in the 20's and sometimes teens in heavy areas with overcast textures, but it is still smooth enough for me to enjoy it.
March 18, 201313 yr I agree. My problem is I crank the LOD which makes OOM's come hehe... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

March 18, 201313 yr Author I agree. My problem is I crank the LOD which makes OOM's come hehe...Something is wrong in your setup then. I turned down autogen one notch from the highest and have never had an OOM error. I removed all duplicate afcad files (especially from Orbx scenery), removed empty texture folders in some sceneries, and made sure there were no corrupted textures like for AI traffic.
March 18, 201313 yr You're running LOD of 6.5? And Orbx? And NGX? And max scenery? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 18, 201313 yr Author Yes to all except Orbx. I removed it from my system because I fly in other areas. But I did have it installed and never had a OOM at FSDT CYVR. Orbx has so many small little issues like duplicate afcad files and corrupting the default autogen files.
March 18, 201313 yr That makes sense then. Orbx is the main factor without a doubt. I can fly everywhere else without Orbx and be fine. Occasionally after 4 or so hours it will OOM. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 19, 201313 yr Not forgetting also that beside the 32 Bits limitation for FSX there is also a important issue concerning its instability. Arslan Nouar
March 19, 201313 yr Occasionally after 4 or so hours it will OOM. How's this sound... TO from KBOS this morning in the QW757-300. I'm about 130 out from KSAN into RWY27. There are other planes coming in and I left it up to tower to advise my course. Well, I had to declare a missed approach due to traffic conflict as tower had gone on a coffee break, and followed control to come back around right downwind. I'm about to turn to base and dang! OOM! Yes, it's a limited platform can we please now move along?! Dear 3PDs: please either develop your own new core engine or start supporting XPlane 64 to the hilt! I don't want to invest any more into FSX! March 19, 201313 yr Author Again, OOM has nothing to do with the platform. There is something wrong with your FSX install.
March 19, 201313 yr Not forgetting also that beside the 32 Bits limitation for FSX there is also a important issue concerning its instability. What instability? It is rock-solid on my rig.. and has been for a while. Bert
March 19, 201313 yr What instability? It is rock-solid on my rig.. and has been for a while. You are probably right I do as well, this dosent not apply to most of FSX people unfortunately. Arslan Nouar
