Happy Birthday indeed. I wasn't there at the birth, but I do remember you in short trousers.

Why don't we all make a donation this Sunday - just a little contribution - and then AVSIM can buy themselves something they really want!

Call it MAD (Make A Donation) SUNDAY.... B)

Happy Birthday Avsim !

I've been lurking and contributing on and off  (much less now than I used to do early on but real life prevails...) since the days of Fly! in the late 90's and happy to see you still in business and thriving B) .  You did a good job over all these years. A vote of thanks from :france-flag:  !

Happy birthday Avsim. That wayback machine thing is really fun, look at this headliner from November 2000:

Seagate has announced the Barracuda 180--the world's first disc drive to store a massive 180 GB, the most single-drive storage space in the world. This 180 GB drive can store the equivalent of a batch of text documents that is three times the height of the Empire State Building. The Barracuda 180 also delivers a record low cost-per-GB for a single drive. The Barracuda 180 will ship to the distribution channel in volume during the first quarter of 2001. The seventh generation Barracuda features low idle power consumption of less than 10.3 watts and a low acoustic rating of 3.7 decibels--the quietest half-height disc drive ever. In addition, Seagate is introducing a rotational vibration protection scheme that monitors drive movement in relationship to the cabinet or the drive mounting and provides input to the drive, reducing positioning errors resulting from rotational vibration within the cabinet or mounting. The Barracuda 180 spins at 7,200 rotations-per-minute, has a formatted data transfer rate of up to 47 MB per second, and will be available in the standard Ultra160 SCSI interface. For audio-visual applications, a 16 MB V-code cache option will be offered. Single evaluation unit suggested retail pricing for the Barracuda 180 is 2195 USD. At last a hard drive that will hold all those FS add-ons.

Here is what the web site looked like in June of 1997:

http://web.archive.o.../pages/main.htm

Wow!  That page is still active.  I clicked on FS Clouds Pro in the left column and it still brings up the article.  Very interesting article when we look at today's offerings such as Rex Essentials and Active Sky !!!  I'm heading back to check out more from that era!

The references from that time were to Windows 95.  Weren't we flying FS in a DOS window at that time?

I have been using flight simulator since the beginning on FS1, then Sublogic and back to FS.  What you have provided is a community that I have visited each and every day since I found your existence.  I can not say that I have had this type loyalty for any other web site except for mail.  Thank you for all the enjoyment and learning you and your team have provided.  Happy Birthday
