Do you have a goal when you fly?

Featured Replies

Depends on what type of flying I do:

For airliner flying my goal is usually to do it as good as possible (no cold and dark to cold and dark procedures too often, though), and usually to have some "thrill" - be it a more complicated approach like the checkerboard appraoch to Kai Tak or Innsbruck or be it an approach with some stunning scenery (I know that's probably not exactly a thrill, but I don't find any better term to describe it right now). This also includes flying into Courchevel or Lukla with some smaller prop aircraft like the Dash 7 or the Twotter.

For GA flying, mostly bush flying, I pretend that I carry either cargo or people from A to B, but still I try to have a nice surrounding and some challenging weather.

Last but not least, when it comes to military action, I either train for carrier ops or just try to follow and escort AI planes.

I'm happy to have the flight go according to plan, with a smooth takeoff and landing, on-time and with the expected amount of fuel. Interesting weather and scenery along the way makes the experience better. I like to select and fly full approaches using charts when possible, or if flying VFR then just joining the pattern properly and landing can be enjoyable, especially at a small mountain or bush airstrip. Grabbing a few screenies or recording the flight allows for a nice review afterward. I also use FSCaptain for some of my flights which adds some good effects and it checks for bad behavior like busting speed restrictions or forgetting about altimeter settings at transition altitude etc.

I agree with many of the above but also I enjoy the goals of FS Economy. Flying passengers and cargo and earning virtual $ for successful flights. Building a virtual business that allows you to own airplanes and FBOs. http://www.fseconomy.com/

I started by just learning how to fly! I am mostly focused on the King Air and T-6A. I always fly real weather and try to get to as many airports, around the world as possible. By staying with smaller GA I am able to try my hand at many of the smaller airfields (and with real weather, short runways and congested airspace) it is somewhat of a challenge. I normally fly IFR but also enjoy some shorter VFR flights. Some statistics follow:

Flights =1845
Planes used = 6
Airports used = 587
Take Off = 1773
Landing = 2582
Hours = 1715.4
Night = 656.4
IFR = 237.3 (using FSX rules)
Multi-engine = 1715.0
Avg Flight Time = 0.93 hours (55 min)

Happy Flying!!! :P

I enjoy reading my post flight analysis report via fs passengers to see how was my flight:

1- landing touchdown

2- take off

3- pilot penalties: max speed/landing light/taxi speed...

4- status of my plane at landing: gears/flaps/....

also:

1- i check the income flight

2- enjoy sceneries

3- enjoy realistic plane dynamics/systems/sounds

4- Overall level of immersion.

And in case im using Radar contact 4: i click at the end on critique to see how i did in terms of following ATC instructions while flying.

Hi KSAT,

Where did you find the following stats?

"Flights", "Planes", "Airports used", "Take Off"

Neat little utility even if it is "old"!! :lol:

Fly for my VA or fly for FS Economy.

Besides the friendships built, I have learned a tremendous amount from my compadres about the Wide World of FSX aircraft, utilities, scenery etc.

:drinks:

It is nice!  Some surprising stats for me on plane make & model flown.  Easy to see "comments" now, so maybe I start documenting a bit more.

Now... how to edit out all those "Aircraft crashed at the end of the flight" entries.   :lol:

Thanks again Bob.

I have many 'moods' of flying.  Sometimes I like to fly the GA types of planes that I am trained to fly in real life, helping keeping my brain up to speed with proceedures and such.  Sometimes  I enjoy the challenge of flying a complex warbird while listening to the beautiful roar of a big radial or V-12.   Sometimes I enjoy a vintage biplane trip, using nothing but a compass and Skyvector.com to navigate.   Sometimes I enjoy the peace and enjoyment of soaring a glider.  Sometimes can even be seen enjoying flying a tubeliner...most likely flying boxes in a freighter.

At the moment I am cruising in my A2A P-40, over beautiful FTX NZ scenery, listening to the beautiful Allison V-1710 music.

Ozzie,

You can use this little utility to do some "editing" on your log file:

FSX Log book editor 0.2

Another oldie but goodie!!!!

Sometimes I just want to go up and visit somewhere so I load up the Turbine Duke and go.  Sometimes I'll pick a city and Google what's going on there and just sort of imagine that I'm going to visit for an event.  Last week there was a big tennis event in Palm Springs...why not?

Sometimes I want to do some sightseeing so I load up my (high wing) C337 and just fly around some amazing scenery, sometimes pick an airport to head into a valley or drop into an airport.    Sometimes I'm up honing a skill...DME arcs, ILS, non-precision approaches.

I have mulled VAs for the longest time but haven't joined one.  Just not sure about them. Lately, about 80% of my flying has been GA, though, I'm moving toward increasing commercial time to see more what's that like and if it helps me find VATSIM controllers available.

Fly for my VA or fly for FS Economy.

I used to fly with FSE but have switched to FlyteLine. I find less hassle there (they don't simulate breakdowns and charge you constantly).

I like to plan a flight, take a job, get to the destination safely, and go get my cash. I now own 15 aircraft including 3 helicopters and 3 amphibian planes in the virtual world, spread all over the U.S. I particularly enjoy the planning stage and landings. My goal? To make virtual money to buy more planes, and not crash.

At the moment to get the 500 airports visited award because it's there. Generally following RW airline routes, departing from where I arrived the flight before. Currently making my way around western Canada in Westjet 736s and 737s. Hub and spoke ops make it a little slow...

There are also awards for 1000 / 2000 / 4000 airports visited.

(rapidly approaching 2000... thanks fsxlogbook!)

Btw thanks Bob about "FSX Log book editor 0.2"... thinking tho I'll just leave the crashes in there... most my fault anyway (although there are program glitches!!!  Really!  Some not my fault!).
