I have just noticed this thread -

If there are a few "known" bugs (I have not experienced them as yet btw) why is the md11 still up for sale? - I get that PMDG will not update it - but surely its kind of misleading selling a product that has known issues that will not be fixed! - I mean its not stated in the description or on checkout that "there are known issues that will not be updated - but buy at own risk"

Every piece of software you have ever purchased (most definitely including Windows itself) has bugs associated with it. There is essentially no such thing as perfect software. Ever.

When you get the 777 (or if you have the NGX look there) - look at the starting few sections of the manuals. This is essentially a massive list of bugs and updates that have been done to the aircraft since it entered service in the mid 90s. There are a bazillion bugs in real life mission-critical software like the FMCs, the AFDS etc. To expect us to produce a 100% bug free in all situations simulation of an aircraft that costs several hundred million dollars for $70 or whatever is pretty much impossible. If even Boeing with their hundreds of billions of dollars in resources can't do that, how exactly do you think a team of only 10 or so people here can? (and don't even get me started on Airbus' bugs since the A320 entered service...)

There is also a very big difference between some very rare issue where you have to intentionally set the airplane up in a certain way to trigger it and some sort of total show stopper that prevents people from actually using the product normally. We do not let those kinds of known issues go. The go-around/divert CTD mentioned by someone here has a known workaround - if you're aware of it and use it you'll never have the crash again.

Hey Ryan,

My apologies, I did not mean to sound like it was a rant, - it was just a mere statement.

Post #199 in reply to jonathan, was how it was meant, and not quite "why is it still up for sale"

When you had 777 linked - I expected that to be a link me so I could go buy it, not a link to the same page!!!!  what an anti climax that was!!

Thanks to OP, it's turning into a nice popcorn style thread, a good way to wait for [what you know] :P

Because...

1) You're PMDG!!  B)

2) SOME people (and thankfully only a small minority) are more demanding, because seem to feel that their $70 or so investment is much more important than the $200 million that the real-life airlines are paying for the actual aircraft.

Caveat emptor.

Paul Smith.

The MD11 is still the best widebody long range aircraft simulation available for FSX as of the 20th of July 2013.

It's more detailed, capable, better looking and feature rich than the:
LDS 767

PMDG 747

Anything that Captain Sim has ever made. I owned 1 of their aircraft, and won another in a competition. Neither have remained installed on my system.

Ditto for Feelthere

Quality Wings (yes BAe146's have 4 engines, NO they are not widebody longhaul aircraft lol!)

If you can name me one aircraft that is currently available for sale which beats the quality of all of the above. Please tell me. I want it.

(Even better if it's not a 777.)

Yes I left some addons out in the list above. The list is what I could think of off the top of my head and is in no way comprehensive.

What I am saying is that the only Widebody longhaul aircraft that surpass the PMDG MD11 for a complete cockpit and avionics simulation are either NOT widebody longhaul aircraft, or havn't been released yet!

The MD-11 is excellent, and if you can look past the lower quality model/VC then it's every bit as good as the NGX. The only thing I've done is made 4096x4096 textures for most of the panels in the VC (as the text is ridiculously blurry my end with the default 1024x1024 textures).

Hi,

How can you change this? Is it difficult to explain?

It's not too difficult, it's just time consuming and tedious. Essentially you resize the VC textures to 2048x2048 or 4096x4096 and then redo the pixelated alpha channel's text. It does look very good though once done though.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the quick respond.

I see, it is easy to explain if you know what you have to do.

Maybe it is possible to upload it to the user file section. If you are willing to do  and PMDG is giving permission.

I think there are a lot of people want to have some more crispy MD11VC

I'd love to have 4096x4096 VC textures for the MD-11.  Are you taking orders Luke??

Chris Sunseri

I would love some too should you (and pmdg of course) decide to allow others to get some

Yeah, I'd have to get permission from PMDG (potentially Lefteris) - there is also potential issues because the main texture is still the default texture, it's just the text that is affected. However, the results are still noticeable, here is a before/after
