April 2, 201313 yr Commercial Member I'm curious as to how simmers use the 'Select Aircraft' screen when selecting planes. Do you just usually leave it in the default "ALL - ALL - ALL" mode and scroll through the multitude of aircraft to find the one you want? Or do you use the filters? What works best for you? What do you like? Do you even like the ALL method? thx, Clutch Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) April 2, 201313 yr I leave it ALL ALL ALL I find too often the meta tags for the aircraft themselves are not proper, so the sorting is kind of sloppy at best. The easiest way to keep my hanger organized is to get rid of junk that I do not use or fly. And my inventory does not change dramatically so it's easy to find the plane I want relatively quickly, since it's always in the same place. Do not judge people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then at least you are a mile ahead of them when you ###### them off...

I created a folder called Airplane Archive for the aircraft that are out of favor at any given time PLUS I find the liveries I like in a particular aircraft from the "active" Airplane folder and write down the titles. I then go back into the respective "aircraft.cfg" and cut and paste my favorites to the top of the list and re-number them with my favorites at the top. I then comment out // all the ones I don't want to use. These two methods thin the herd considerably. Mslim
April 2, 201313 yr I use the Publisher filter, that usually narrows it down enough, unless it's Carenado, then I uncheck show all variations, select the aircraft type, then check show all variations again to choose the livery. It's not a very good UI, I'm sure there are better ways to drill down first via aircraft type, then show just the paints for the selected type. I looked at simlauncher screenshots and it looks the same as the FSX UI. Ideal Flight has a more reasonable looking aircraft chooser (just from looking at the screenshot). Barry Friedman
April 2, 201313 yr I made my own list so all I need to do is select my own group of aircraft. It's easy to do so by changing these parameters in aircraft.cfg: ui_createdby= ui_manufacturer= ui_type= ui_typerole= ui_variation= Lj. April 2, 201313 yr Funny you ask that today, because I have always sorted by Publisher and just the other day tried sorting by Aircraft Type and found that it works a lot better. If I'm looking for a PMDG 747, for instance, I don't have to sort through the 737's cluttering up the screen.
April 3, 201313 yr All-all-all, just because usually I only choose my aircraft when I take a look at my hangar. Most of the time I have no plan where/what to fly until I have to select an aircraft... Florian
April 3, 201313 yr A problem with removing default aircraft from the "Select Aircraft" list is when flying MS missions. They require default aircraft. David Hinson
April 3, 201313 yr My "hangar" contains only a few payware aircraft in liveries I fly regularly, so navigating it with specific filters is unnecessary.
April 3, 201313 yr I leave it ALL ALL ALL, but it isn't really organized. Because most of my aircraft are freeware the names are all messed up and weird so I might have 20 777's in the different liveries and they are all over the folder as 777-232ER, or 777-200ER and other names different for each livery. I am afraid to change the names of the folders and aircraft names though to organize it because I don't know if the aircraft will still work in FSX. April 3, 201313 yr I never really bothered with the selections. I just scroll to the aircraft I want. I find it easy because every aircraft is arranged alphabetically, so my Airbuses are at the top, Boeings are about one fifth down, McDonnell Douglas aircraft are more towards the bottom etc. Thanks, Kevin L
April 3, 201313 yr As long as you change only UI part of aircraft.cfg, it will work just fine. Lj. Prodanovic
January 18, 201412 yr I find that if I use ALL-ALL-ALL, the scroll button stops at IRIS Tornado, and I can't get any further. Is there something I can do about this? Thank you.
