texture_max_load Question

Is there any way to "lock" this setting? My setting of 4096 is changed to 1024 almost daily...or at least it seems so to me.

It occurs without my changing, adding, or uninstalling anything.

Help appreciated and I will try to pass it on.

Hi Neal,

I believe it is occurring when you open up FSX's Display Settings and make changes in scenery detail and other areas, thought not sure which.  This value will revert to its default setting of 1024.  I have a 3rd party add-on, can't recall which, that seems to load whatever I put into it initially and prevent it from being reverted back to 1024.  Maybe it's REX-E+ I don't know.  Anyway, try making the change directly into fsx.cfg, then don't open FSX Display Settings for a while, then go back and see what happened.

Go to options, settings, display, save, enter a name click ok that will save your current settings and can be reloaded at will.

Note this must be done before opening display settings.

If you then look in your documents folder, Flight Simulator X Files, this cfg file will be there and can be copied, amended and renamed at will,I have about 6 files I use. Start flight sim go to options, settings, display, load and pick  your saved file from the drop down list.

Hope that helps

Mick

Hi Neal, sure as has been said, as soon as you go into FSX settings and make any adjustments then not only will TML revert back to the default setting of 1024 but your LOD will also do the same, by reverting back to it's default valuie of 4.5. If you want to make life really easy for yourself then I would highly recommend Orbx's little gizmo called FSX Go tweaker launcher. Basically it is a small app which allows you to create cfg profiles for flying different scenarios. You simply set all your cfg settings/tweaks within the GUI, give it a name and then you're set. You simply open the app when you wish to start FSX and click on whatever profile you wish to fly with and FSX opens automatically with that chosen set of cfg tweaks!! It's brilliant and I use it all the time. Some guys around here do not see the benefits, but it's onlt when you use it you discover how useful it is. eg, if you're flying the NGX or something similar, which is fairly heavy on frames, you may wish to use the autogen settings on normal and a LOD set at 5, but when flying a GA aircraft, say for example like the Carenado 185, which is pretty light on frames, then you can afford to increase the autogen to very dense and maybe set your LOD to 6. So by having a separate cfg profile that is created for different flying scenarios, you end up flying with the correct cfg tweaks for a particular set of flying conditions where you will benefit by using the best settings. You could also get the freebieware Texture Max Load editor, which effectively locks your TML to whatever it is set at, regardless of any changes you make in the FSX settings. But that is all it does... if you make any changes to your LOD then as I said earlier, that will revert back to 4.5. So, if you don't tweak your cfg at any point, perhaps consider the TML editor, but if you REALLY want to benefit from having a set of profiles created for individual flying scenarios then I would highly recommend Orbx's FSX Go tweaker launcher. Cheers...

I have used this for a couple of years now, it works a charm! I have separate 'configs' saved via the settings tab of FSX, (near the bottom there is a button to save). I have various ones set up for the different planes I normally use, simillar to Howard, but without the extra software.

If you own a FSDT product, go into the FSDT Addon menu and they have an option to keep the setting permanently at 4096 x 4096 textures or until you change it.

Best regards,

Jim

Ahh!  I knew there was something doing this for me somewhere!

Orbx also have Aero which has a TML facility. Works a treat.

That was exactly what I was going to suggest. You can lock it at 4096 then make any changes during flight you want and it will stay lock at 4096 and dont have to worry about it being reset. I don't think there is any other real time tool that will hold that setting during an FSX session after making menu changes.
