Once you get up to FL180 simply press the knob and it reverts to STD (29.92), and while descending down through FL180, simply reset the barometric pressure to what ATC has given you or, what your weather add-on reports.

Our Q300 was/is programmed this way as well.

About setting the STD... Can you make it so that it's not by pressing middle mouse button, as that's what ezdok uses for looking around with mouse and im quite used to that... Maybe like in NGX when you just press on the middle of the knob with left mouse button it works just as well. I'd really appreciate that.

We are not designing an aircraft like the NGX :).  The button is assigned via clicking the mouse wheel, and works quite well.  I too use EZDOK and fond that there is no problem.  we have our push button functionality for 3 way button assigned this way.

As for implementing the "B" Key....I think this will stay as it is.

If you are going to bring reality into it again, where is the middle mouse button in the Dash 8? You have to make compromises with controls in FSX because a human cant grab hold of a knob or press a button very accurately in the FS VC with a mouse, especially when there are momentum effects moving the cockpit around all the time.

My mouse wheel click facility doesn't work very well either (its a free wheeling, wheel) and is next to impossible to press without also turning the wheel, so I end up adjusting the baro (or whatever my mouse ends up pointing at) at the same time I am trying to press the Baro button.

If you absolutely must ignore a great many of your customers in this instance then a compromise would be to turn the STD press into toggle function and pair it to a default FS Control that can be assigned to a button, that would help people like myself who have difficulty pressing this knob. Again as has been said before, we are one pilot doing the workload of 2.

Hooking up B would be far simpler for everyone involved though.

Cheers, Andy.

Simeon,

Thanks for that quick reply. I can see your hesitance to implement that, and I respect the decision making process behind it. It is indeed something that can be worked around with a minimum of effort and thus making it more realistic. Forget I asked.

However, on a personal note, how does one get the in the beta/the service pack? I love this plane (kudos to the person that made that "trailer/ad" you guys have on Youtube by the way, it really convinced me into buying this Q400), but I can't stand flying around without engine/cockpit sound anymore. It's eerily quiet, whereas you normally should have that ferocious noise of the engines with you... Aside from that sound issue, I can't even fault your product; a rare thing (regrettably) in this day and age.

And I /have/ tried the user suggestions to try and fix the error, but not one works (on my Win8).

This plane is simply awesome, don't hesitate, make is as real as the real is.

You dude have made a maserpiece!

thanks a lot for your work!

now, I'm just waiting for the patch & release of the PRO version :)

take your time, don't do like some other, never release unfinished product!! keep up your standard

I using EZDOK & I realy don't see the problem with the middle button...

just set your EZDOCK a other way!

imagine if they must change key setting to satisfy every guys with third party specific hardware or software...

adapting your way of using them is quite simpler...

I'm not saying it would have to be designed that way, just used it as an example of what works great. :)

Hmm, I guess i'll test it again, I remember that it didn't work and i had to tune in the standard pressure manually.. Does the mouse wheel click work at any altitude or does it have to be above 18,000ft? Because in EU transition altitude is alot lower than that :)

For the US FL180, in the EU i think it is 5000 feet.  Check it out and let me know if it works for you.

I have erased all my keys for aircraft related stuff I can push pull or use in whatever manner in the VC. Never used the B key for a very long time. If its bumpy due to turbulence, than that is realistic, I have to cope with trying to turn it whilst being bumped around.

BTW, I thought failures are for another version. My landing gear wont retract. And the manual option via the door behind the seat doesnt work. I should be returning to the airport but VAFS will then penalize me for not getting to my destination. Go figure. Needless to say I have a cruising speed of 213kts. LOL

Dave,
Do you have a complex aircraft loaded prior to loading the Dash 8, if so try starting with a default FSX aircraft.

Also please verify that the Landing gear alternate release door in the roof of the aircraft is closed.  If this doos is open the gear will not retract.

Just a few ideas, as there should not be anything else preventing you from retracting the gear

Thanks for the suggestions and reply. Honestly I think it had to do with my trying to get VAFS to recognize my engine start. I havnt tried another flight yet. I lost tiller steering as well.  Since the CTRL-E trick to start engines after im all setup with engines running doesnt work for me for some reason, I saved the situation, and loaded up another aircraft, which triggered the VAFS engine start, then went back to load my situation. However it seems in the process it really screwed things up on some items.

If you or someone else could chime in on how to get VAFS working, It would be much appreciated. As was posted, I have CTRL-E assigned to Auto Engine start, and tried it after all engines up and running manually , ready to go, and CLs up to max. Even tried them to min and just one engine running, but still no go.  :(

My apologies, but I am not familiar with VAFS. Hopefully someone can chime in and grant you some further guidance.

If so, where do we go to get the SP?
