October 10, 200421 yr I don't know about the rest of you, but I've spent so much time getting FS9 to perform reasonably well on my system that I am just not up for any more headaches as far as installing this, and re-installing that, and messing around with CD#4 again. I appreciate MS's effort to release the patch, but I'm going to spend my time flying and enjoying what I have, and not worry whether the grass is just a bit greener on that side of the fence....unless, of course EVERYONE says that it is, and worth the effort. More flying, less tweaking,http://www.2decker.com/media/solent1-2.JPGAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
October 10, 200421 yr What is the deal? I thought the FS9 update REPLACED the FS9.exe file??So what do I need to do to get the FS9.exe to be the proper one based on the update? Did I have to remove or rename the current FS9.exe? (Rename it to FS9BAK.exe?). The install DID NOT give me a message that the original FS9.exe file is missing or corrupt as stated in the README file? How do I insure that the FS9.exe is the patch or update? Do I have to uninstall the Update and then copy the original FS9.exe, then run the update again? Thanks!Barry
October 10, 200421 yr Alex, you took the words right out of my mouth. I almost feel that installing it will eventually cause more problems than it's worth. I think I might just wait for fs2006 instead. :-bla
October 10, 200421 yr Costas:Yeah, I'm just going to enjoy what I have and ride it out until FS 2006 as well. It's more than enough to keep me happy. How do you like that PCI Express video card system? I'm about ready to get a new system with almost the identical specs as yours.http://www.2decker.com/media/solent1-2.JPGAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
October 10, 200421 yr With FS9 running, click on Help and then select About Flight Simulator. That will tell you which version.Cal
October 10, 200421 yr What happens to addons that modified the generic.bgl?Does anybody know which popular addons change this file? And which change the gps_export.dll?Oren Geva
October 10, 200421 yr HiI have tried installing the patch twice but each time it stops at PANEL.dll, then a message "install was unsuccessfull"Can anyone help me through to completionthanksBob Wright
October 10, 200421 yr as far as i can work out the the generic.bgl file is renamed to generic.bak by the bridge fix file/prog that removes all the horrible extra bridges where there should be no bridges. if you have used this file run it to reinstll the bridges then remove it, it will not work with 9.1, I would still get the file of the Cd to be on the safe side than after you have applied the patch remove or rename the file to get rid of the generic bridges.
October 10, 200421 yr Hi Bob,I would try reinstalling the panels.dll. You might want to cut and paste the existing panels.dll file into My Documents or someplace safe before starting this operation.Go to disk2/MSGAME3.CAB. This is a zip file. Open it with WINZIP or similar. Look for the Panels.dll file. Copy this file and go to C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Modules (with "C:" being your Hard Drive you have Flight Sim installed on). Paste the file into the Modules folder.I hope this will allow you to finish the patch. It is well worth whatever it takes to fix it... at least on my computer.Earl

THANKS Microsoft for the patch!>EarlWhen I opened FS9 everything ran ok. I checked the version and the number is 9.1. I presume this means it's updated ok. However, just to make sure, I might try copying the display.cfg from the cd and run the unstall again.
October 10, 200421 yr Bob>I have tried installing the patch twice but each time it stops at PANEL.dll, then a message "install was unsuccessfull"This is exactly what happened to me. You need the original PANEL.DLL file from FS9 Disk 2. I see somebody's already given that instruction to you.
October 10, 200421 yr I did not have the luck of others and the new patch to 9.1 does not work on my machine.I installed the latest Active Camera 2004 patch along with the FSUIPC then installed the FS9.1 patch. All indications show patch was installed without any errors. However, while sitting in 2D cockpit and panning around I get CTD. Uninstall the patch and everything is ok. I did not move any files back from CD (FS9.exe or generic.bgl)as did not get any error messages during update there were problem. Not sure what is next step, looking for some suggestions.Bob DemarestBirmingham, Al. Bob Demarest Knoxville, Tennessee
