October 11, 200421 yr Well, guys and gals....I am STILL reading the posts and taking it all in...patch dl'd but NOT yet applied...as mentioned in the previous post last nite...like many, I've got tons of mods invested into my fs9...but....listen to this....Remember in the instructions it said to change the number of vertexes to 21 in fs9.cfg?...I dl'd the Greece files ...I believe off Avsim...and read the readme...it said..."change the fs9.cfg TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=from 19 to 21 to see the new Greece mesh properly"...note...the Greece files were written wayyyy before the fs9.1 patch....June,2004......hmmmmm I says to myself ...having just moved to Southeastern Kentucky a year ago...I fell in love with the hills and hollows here...and I wanted to recreate it with high detail mesh as possible, and fly over it...with as little fps hit as possible. Now, I've never felt the Kentucky area I'd created from SRTM 1arcsec height data (supposedly 10Meter stuff), and compiled with SRTM2bgl at LOD 10, showed as much detail as was really there in the mesh I'd created....soooo I thought what the hey...I changed the vertexes to 21..just for grins......and Bam!....I saw detail at the farm house here which sits 80 feet up the base of an 1800 foot hill, AND the afcad2.1 strip I put into the field below the house...which resides in a Kentucky "Hollar"...Positively POP with new ridges, rock formations and more hollars and hills...just LIKE FOR REAL...Like I wuz LOOKIN AT the real deal out the winder!"......remember..this is with NO patch!...and get this...NO perceptible fps hit either!...I ask myself...what further detail might I see..with the patch???...and I git closer bubba...I get closer....but I'm still gonna learn from the mistakes of y'all...sorry...Y'uns...grin...I hope this info is of use...I am sure getting a kick out of my "New KY mesh...without the patch....Chashttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/93986.jpg
October 11, 200421 yr I downloaded and installed the patch today. DL took 2-1/2 mins, install took only 4 mins. I have no addons whatsoever and noticed a considerable improvement in everything. Visual, performance, load time, stability, everything has been improved.Glenn"If God would have wanted man to fly He would have given him more money"
October 11, 200421 yr Hi GuysI installed the patch and apart from initial CTD, (fixed with Active Camera patch)it appears to be running okay.My question is how do I know if the generic.bgl was in place before I installed the patch?ThanksGerry
October 11, 200421 yr Am trying to do a fresh reinstall of FS9 and then applying patch however the MS installed won't let me reinstall the program in the original folder location:-( It says I have to select another folder for the install.Anyone know of a way around this to force the installer to install into the previous location - I would really be happy to find a solution as I dont want to have to reinstall ALL my addons so they work in FS9 in a new directory.RegardsAdam
October 11, 200421 yr Hi all!Well, to begin with, I installed the patch straight across my fs9 installation full of add-ons and it all works just fine! Got the message about display.cfg and continued as described by other people. Had to update FSUIPC but that's cool! PMDG planes work fine and AS2004 is happy so life isn't that bad.So, I can finally fly in and around south Austria without the crashes coming out of the old problem with mesh and landclass files. My FX5600 card now renders terrain without square patches of different visibility on the horizon and as for the memory leak... Well, we will see. Then there is the topic of bridges!!! I have not yet heard of how well they have succeeded for the US part of the world but they have managed to place the grand bridge between Malmo in Sweden and Kastrup in Denmark a few kilometres north of it's current position and funny enough straight in the final landing path of runways 04R/L!!!!!! Right now it's a bit like running Golden Gate across Alcatraz....So, another patch I suppose???//Peter
October 11, 200421 yr Better idea, got to:http://www.swedflight.com/and get their Copenhagen airport scenery and the bridge addon. Great.I too have installed the patch succesfully. The key is to read the instructions and make sure your original dll files are intact.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
October 12, 200421 yr How exactly do you "uninstall" the patch? I don't find in in Control Panel/Uninstall list. David Hinson
October 12, 200421 yr Don,>It hic-upped on the display.cfg. file. I had made a change to the original as FS9 doesn't fully recognize my ATI radeon 9800 pro card to acchieve optimum performance.
October 12, 200421 yr Solved it with alittle help from fsnordic.net! Anybody else that wants it sorted have a look at their forum. I'm sure it's time only before a handy little bgl update will be with them in their files library :)// Peter A. October 12, 200421 yr Greetings - I downloaded the patch without difficulty, however the 2D cockpit/panel was missing from every plane I selected. The bottom half of the screen was black and the top half was the appropriate runway scenery. I did not download the FSUIPC or modify any other files. After several attempts to locate the 2D panel by selecting numerous planes. I uninstalled the patch. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any replies.B. Scott
October 13, 200421 yr Alex:Phew, just what I wanted and needed to see. Thanks. Ditto for me with my million hardware and software add-ons. I did the FS-GS process and kissed my CD-ROMS goodbye, and ain't no way I'm gonna risk wasting more of my life being a "PC engineer."It's too little too late from MS.Thanks for posting.Cheers!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
