Flying over Central Park, I do not see the ball fields as shown in the SimHeaven gallery of that area.No real big deal but would like to use those items as a indication of the item working/installed correctly.

It's my understanding that the North American scenery available for download via SimHeaven is not photo-based - it's only an update to draw OSM buildings alongside the roads which exist in the simulator.

You would not see any photoreal elements (*like the ball fields of Central Park) unless you already had photoreal scenery for the area you were flying in.  The SimHeaven screenshots may have some 3rd party scenery underlying their own.

SimHeaven is distributing some photoreal scenery, but it's all in Europe or around select airports.

OSM2xp cant draw "custom" POI objects, just general features that are mapped in OSM, buildings, windfarms, powerlines, forests etc.

Custom objects like statue of liberty, eiffel tower, big ben and what not have to be modeled manually as a different package. The statue of liberty is probably a addon pack found on .org library.

(PS. sketchup warehouse is quite handy for these objects, with the sketchup2xp export plugin. You can just download anything from the 3d warehouse and export it into xplane  :Nerd: Atleast it works just fine for FSX via modelconverterX, should be easier with xplane. and best part is that the warehouse terms of service gives you full access to people's creations and you can distribute them as you wish last i checked.)

Yes, that's true, I have 110 airports and cities of the world, but.... New York is one of them, you can find it here:

Also other approx 30 US cities... ;)

Using SimHeaven North America and flying over the Statue of Liberty should I expect to see the statue?

As gheeD said and as mentioned in the gallery, the Statue of Libert is in an additional scenery, but I can't find it now and I can't remember, maybe captain420 could say, he has the same in his screenshot.

Normally I use my converted Aerosoft Manhattan X for this area, but I had deactivated to see osm objects only.

Quick question on OSM files, I think this was already answered, but I can not find the post.

What is the difference between the files that say  OSM XXXXXX_XXXX+autogen  and the ones that don't say +autogen?

I noticed for 2 areas, I hat both. Is one of them redundant?

Is it that one version is a mix of default autogen and OSM and the other pure OSM data?  Im a little confused on this part.

But so far it all looks amazing!!

Ah, thanks Greg,

I see the error of my ways now.

Recent versions were osm+only and osm+autogen. The newest version is (except for Europe) only in osm+autogen available as it has smart exclusions to separate osm and autogen objects. So I clipped the osm+autogen behind Osm_Continent.

Have to confess I'm still a bit confused by how this whole OSM thing works. I tried the new packages but noticed that a lot of vegetation is missing in the new ones. For example Orcas Island has almost no trees at all in the new package, whereas the previous North America package had plenty. Also Google Earth confirms there should be trees there.

I thought the new packages would have the most accurate data?

That's why I hope you keep always one back-up file as you travel from one update to another, in case you don't like the latest and greatest...just delete and install the previous 'what made you happy' version.

It was a short break, I'm working on the next topic. LyAvain modified houses and replaced them by objects from R2-Library (http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/68287-europaeische-autogen-gebaeude/ in German only), I added this to a European Library today and tried out with osm+autogen in small Swiss villages and Barcelona, where osm data is not perfect:

Yes. I may be relatively new to XP, but that was something I guessed would be a must!

I'm adding to the Europe Library also uwespeed's "German Traffic Library" with his permission, which adds European cars and trains to your scenery and also we change the American style signs to blue European signs on highways. If you install this package, you'll only see it in Europe, outside will remain the same.

If somebody could help us with typical and maybe regional objects for Europe, we'd appreciate that. This could be taxi cars, houses...

Is there a mirror anywhere for that download, my IP address has been blocked from x-plane.org for some unknown reason?

You would be amazed in how many do not. ;)

Glad that you had your copy. As it turns out, you and I didn't need to use our archive. The latest July 15th updates fixed that.  BTW, Scotchegg, thanks for pointing out in the forum about loss of forest cover in such a place as Orcas Island. It was fixed because of that!
