July 24, 201312 yr Yeah for many old procs, sure. HT enabled on my Haswell and it makes toast either way but is plenty stable and of course FSX never has made use of hyper-threading. As for LOD settings, Higher than in-game were discovered and proven here many a moon ago and still hold true today unless there has been a rewrite of FSX.EXE you can share with us... Yeah, I know that a LOD_RADIUS value with 6.5 and higher will work. But will a value of 32 work? How did you, or anybody else test that setting?
July 24, 201312 yr Commercial Member I have had mine set to 9.5 (same as Word Not Allowed's recommendation some time ago) and it worked well for a couple of weeks then saw OOM's. The Affinity Mask setting is way out of line too. FS9 days. Old computer setting. It will drain all the resources out of his/her system too! Best regards, Jim Yes and load times will be much slower also. Regards jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
July 24, 201312 yr Author I find a setting of 8.5 is what works best for me. July 24, 201312 yr I find a setting of 8.5 is what works best for me. Nice, 6.5-to 8.5, is the sweet spot for me I wish this was the menu default. Yeah, I know that a LOD_RADIUS value with 6.5 and higher will work. But will a value of 32 work? How did you, or anybody else test that setting? Tested and documented right here on Avsim. And No nothing greater than 9.9 will work. Which haswell processor are you running and did you over clock it at all? For sure, (its in the Sig) Havent even pushed it yet, thats for another time, perhaps next month. July 25, 201312 yr You'll find Nick's updated guide on hardware, OS setup and FSX here: http://www.simforums...topic46211.html Just scanned the reference link quickly, but it appears that Mister Needham is on a MISSION! His tolerance of bad coding, bad settings, and general tweak-geeks seems to have reached a limit! I look forward to reading it in more detail. July 25, 201312 yr FSX.CFG is a balancing act ... it's almost urban legend. I think I've read everything there is to read on the FSX.CFG and seem to find more daily, much of the data in direct contradiction. But I keep testing out settings in that perfect question for a single FSX.CFG that will work in every flight situation ... so far I've not hit the magic balance, my question continues ... it's a challenge that I want to give up, but seem to always get dragged back into ...
