July 26, 201312 yr Yep. :( This is possibly an unfortunate lesson (for buyers and for the developer), that FSX has a very finite limit in what it can do, due to it's 32 bit nature - regardless how powerful the hardware we're running it on. I suspect this software - as stunning as it looks in the screenies - surpasses that 'limit'. What really bogs my mind is why a company like Drzewiecki Design, knowing this limitation and is not new to the scenery design world. Would bother making such a project in the first place? Im glad I held off purchasing this.As much as I love flying into fsdt jfk v2 this would of been an excellent addition to my approach. Kacper Nowotynski

July 26, 201312 yr Author Quote from kaspern83"What really bogs my mind is why a company like Drzewiecki Design, knowing this limitation and is not new to the scenery design world. Would bother making such a project in the first place?" I am not a software designer and have not worked within the FSX limitations but I believe I could categorize your posted thoughts as speculative. Who know's - perhaps they thought they could do it better than Aerosoft? From all accounts, their software runs better than Aerosofts NY under DX10. One driving force is that they are a business and making a profit from the sale of an obviously desirable rendered flying area sounds like a good incentive to me.
July 27, 201312 yr By VAS (excuse my ignorance) I assume you mean Virtual address space? This virtual address space has nothing to do with the virtual memory setting in the Advanced system settings does it? Yes to the first and correct to the second. The advanced setting you're referring to is about setting up disk space for paging when physical memory fills up. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can change that can extend this hard 32-bit application limit. The key part of VAS in this case is the "address" part. A 32-bit application running in 64-bit Windows and compiled without the largeaddressaware flag set (including pre-SP2 FSX) can only address a maximum of 2G, and those compiled to be largeaddressaware (like FSX SP2 or Acceleration) can address a maximum of 4G. Funny that a very short time ago, few of us were running systems that IN TOTAL could address more than around 3G. Now we're bumping into issues because an application itself is limited to 4G. How quickly things change. Scott
July 27, 201312 yr Author Thanks Scott. So really what needs to happen in the case of the NY Scenery is perhaps another way to render multiple scenery objects in their own specific reserved memory space shell - I mean for example, trees and roads separate from buildings and from AI Traffic. Which raises a point. If I disable all AI traffic (Cars/planes/boats) would this free up addressable space? If it idid it would feel pretty lonely flying though.
July 27, 201312 yr Start spreading the newsI am leaving todayDon't wanna be a part of itNew York, New York If you could make it thereYou'll make it anywhereIt's up to youDrzewiecki Design If this could work it would be fabulous, alas it doesn't, atleast not on my poor rig ( i7 980X, 3.33GHZ, 12 Gig RAM, GTX480, W7Pro64, Bojote tweaks) I first tried the demo, not overly enthusiastic in DX9 but changing to DX10 made a lot of difference (Steve Parsons fix). Ok, lets take the plunge and buy it and a plunge it proved to be. Right down to average 10 fps over NYC at 1000 feet,90 knots, but the worst thing is the constant texture loading, not only ground textures but whole blocks of buildings keep getting retextured. No fun at all. ( NYC *does* look spectacular of course ) Tried the medium system tweaks from the manual, little better fps but still lots of texture loading. I feel i'm back with my earlier system and Aerosoft FSX San Francisco, no fun neither then but not half as bad as this.... Time to head for the mountains and green pastures again. cheers, jan Jan
July 27, 201312 yr Thought I would buy it because they release lower textures for the buildings. Now I have to say, everyone, STAY AWAY from this. Something is seriously wrong with this scenery. The OOM's continued, and my FPS dropped to 12, with the default ultralite!!!! So, I thought, as experiment, I turned down ALL my sliders to the lowest possible, cleared all weather, and flew with default ultralite. Right over Manhattan, the ground started to turn black, and my FSX crashed. Before the OOM, my fps were at about 13.
July 27, 201312 yr That has been fixed a long time ago, go to the DX10 subsection. It's easy to try and switch back. What do you mean...."subsection"? I clicked on it in FSX and the flashing is still there. What exactly do you have to do to fix the flashing runways and overall flashing when DX10 is selected? Stan

All the info you need is there, including a how-to. Applying the DX10 fixes is easy and you can always go back to DX9 in a second. http://forum.avsim.net/forum/569-dx-10-discussions-hints-and-help/ Mark

July 27, 201312 yr Can someone record a video or test with PMDG? My computer won't even run this with the default ultralite!!! What puzzles me, is That HUGE Rio De Janario scenery, has like 100,000 custom buildings, and photo scenery, and I get no OOM's there. Something is seriously messed up about this one. My system is: i5-2500K @4.2 Ghz GTX 560TI 8 GB of RAM Windows 7 x64
