Another New York X

Featured Replies

Dave, yes top pic is NYC X and bottom one is Aerosoft Manhattan X.  This is how my installation of NYC looks on my computer.  I am wondering if other owners of NYC have the same view as mine.

Ah ok, thanks - that looks better, with proper buildings.

Ah thank you.

Seems like something wrong in your setup, at a minimum you should have AG filling it up.

Its on sale now for Approximately $20 so it has to be worth that right? or should I just stick to AeroSoft Manhattan X? Is this dev good at supplying updates?

Yes, what is the consensus at the moment, is it a slide show for dx-niners or a usable addon?

I bought this believing that it wouldn't work in DX9, but would be a good test for the DX10 Fixer when it is released.

To my surprise, if you are sensible with your settings, it is perfectly flyable in DX9.

Firstly, I removed all other scenery add-ons from the scenery.cfg, then reduced my LOD Radius to the default 4.5 (I usually run this at 9.0 for photo-sceneries).  I then cleared all weather, but all other settings are pretty much maxed out.

I found that I was getting 15-20 fps consistently, more in some locations.  A few screenshots:

I am not using cutting-edge hardware:

 i5 (Sandybridge) 2500K, overclocked to 4.6GHz

GeForce GTX580, 1536MB

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB

I did have occasional blue rectangles in the water, but hope that this will be cured with the DX10 Fixer.

Dave.

Alan,

I had my normal traffic settings, using MyTrafficX:

Airline Traffic 11%

General Aviation 11%

Road Vehicles 20%

Ships & Ferries 20%

Leisure Boats 18%

One other thing, I installed the scenery with the Hi-Res textures ..... presumably with the lower-res the performance would increase.

Dave.

Thanks.  I use MyTraffic 5.4b (need to upgrade to c) with just marginally higher settings, which I could easily reduce to match yours.  Would  prefer to run weather, but still, those are very encouraging results.  Thanks for sharing.

I got this on sale a week or so ago. $20 cant go wrong. First off in hammer my new Haswell  at stock clocks and pre-optimization setting as per NickN's Guide! I went of the high res textures on the install. Saw frames below 20FPS but up to 20. Lots of flashing Boxes and Graphical artifacts though. Over very happy with the purchase. I bet this was made for P3D V2. I beat this will be awesome in P3D V2. I loved the origin Manhattan X (AeroSoft) and will continue to use that in FSX. Eventually FSX will Disappear an it will be all P3DV2

Gave it a shot.. with an i7 2600k at 4.6 and a 780ti (also tried my old 670ftw 2gb, no change amazingly).. as approach the city in p92 eaglet (VC).. starts at 17 fps but as close in on the main downtown area the average is around 12 fps.. thats with 7% traffic.. scenery complexity at max and AG at normal (2048) and lod 7.5.. high res vs low res only made a 0.5 fps difference.  Changing the scenery complexity or turning off traffic didnt help much.  (DX10 5760x1200 and 4xSupersample.. though lowering res didnt help much either, maybe 4fps at 3840x800 which looks terrible since not native)

I found that renaming NY_Low.bgl in the scenery folder to ny_low.bgl.bak helped with frames.. of course it chops the middle portion of the city down to photoscenery.. I could approach the lower section near the new tower and achieve 19-24 fps (670FTW 2GB).. then if i removed all autogen from textures (agn files) I gained yet another 6-7 fps.. making approaches on the upper and lower sections of town in small planes or choppers work at 24-28 fps.. its a hack to avoid 13 fps slide shows, but works.

Trying to just rename other sections like NY_large_S and NY_large_n.bgl didnt help with framerate.. but made gex (or ftx global) textures take over the photoscenery if desired, as per the other DD thread.

In my side by side screenshots, i also tried disabling(renaming) manh_high.bgl  if i did this the areas near the bridges became crisper and in the photoscenery areas too.. much sharper in my opinion.. not as "shaded" however.. ive opted for crispness so keeping that one disabled (no real performance gain with just this)

A few night shots.. one with ftxg vector lights (disabled ny_large_s and ny_large_n.bgl files), the other with them enabled.. with the bgls disabled, fps crawled to around 10 on a close flyby.. though most normal non sight-see flights are further away and the rate is acceptable.
