Jeroen,

The water in your screenshots looks weird, and nothing like the 2x.Med water that I use on my PC. In fact, the water in those screenshots looks like 1x to me (only worse).

The water is High 2x. Maybe you installed a REX water animation or a specific REX water color? Maybe you used FSWC? My water is completely default, apart from whatever UTX does with it.

Your infantile sarcasm hit you straight in the face

His "infantile" sarcasm was actually amusing. I would politely suggest that some people around here need to chill out a bit.

Your infantile sarcasm hit you straight in the face and showed us all that you don't know the first thing about what you just spent $90 on.

Save yourself the embarrassment next time, and read the forums before you skewer yourself like you just did.

Contrary to what was said in one post above reading just the FTX-G product description would have saved him the embarrassment already.

What happened to AVSIM

Hey, are you being sarcastic? I can't tell because you're Canadian.....

Respectfully, yes right on both accounts.

I understand the architecture of FSX, true, more than many users.  I also read all the material going into this.  I totally understood what this product would do and that the real finishing touch would be custom landclass.

I buy regions where all this is in place.  I have GEX so I know what that did.

Orbx was correct in how the portrayed this product.  No surprises for me.  Too bad about Bieber (shows you that even being Canadian doesn't hide you from being a kid), he needs help, hope he gets a guiding hand before he crashes and burns.

I'm done complaining, as I do think FTX Global, overall, is better than other texture products and *much* better than default FSX.

I think we can almost all agree on this, though:

Can't wait for openLC!

Hi Steve,

My bad!     Actually, here in Lubbock, the countryside DOES bear a striking resemblance to that of Ireland now that I think about it.      By Jove, Orbx nailed it.      And of course you're right, I should have realized that none of this is Orbx's fault; rather, it's my fault for not reading that the $99 texture set won't work properly without additionally purchasing the requisite proper OpenLC file(s), none of which has been released yet, despite the main textures themselves having been released.

Steve, may I wish you a hearty 'Top O' the Evening' to you as we Irish Texans here on the lush Llano Estacado say, and thank you for setting me straight.

SO, in short, it doesn't work but it should work if you buy more stuff but you can't buy more stuff because it's not available yet but that doesn't matter because Orbx did an amazing job and it's my fault for not realizing any of this.     I finally get it!

There is science, logic, reason; there is thought verified by experience.     And then there is the realm of certain Flight Simulator add-on developers.....

Hey, are you being sarcastic?     I can't tell because you're Canadian.....

Clearly states that The LC isn't available yet and YES it's your fault for not bothering to read the description of what you get and what FTX Global does to FSX.

Try covering the whole world with GEX and UTX you would be looking at $1000 .

As for who's fault the Default LC is, it's microsoft ...i would email them and tell them that you paid $99 for a texture set and can't see yourself through the window of your house  playing FSX ...bloody outrageous ripoff.

Come on guys. Are we really entertaining a battle over what Orbx released? Lets just enjoy, and actually start sharing info and stuff about the hobby, instead of dividing it.

This is reminding me of the XPX, FSX, Flight crap that was going on a while ago.......it serves no purpose.

Steve,

How does GEX get it right and Orbx get it wrong, on the same computer, using the same LC?

You got a bunch of bushes and trees, but the landscaper has not yet arrived. He will though.

Steve,

How does GEX get it right and Orbx get it wrong, on the same computer, using the same LC?

But GEX doesnt get it right in many parts of its coverage area. Take a look at the northern european textures. Way too much yellow and brown but this is because it also uses the same textures in southern europe / med regions as well.

Its a balancing act because of the way the texture sets are used in multiple locations. The custom landclass will fix the 'green' areas that should be deserts. The two products are simply taking different paths to get an end result. Personally in the areas I fly, getting the lush greens right is more important than the desert stuff. When it gets fixed with the OpenLC, great.

Once again, see why this is the problem with the FSX texture set right here in this post:

http://www.simforums.com/forums/why-textures-repeat-in-fsx_topic44090.html

This is straight from the devs of GEX. FTX Global will have run into exactly the same problems! They have simply decided to address it in a different manner than the GEX guys. So for now, the desert textures are suffering. In GEX, the northern europe and northern US textures suffer with an excessive Southern European 'dry' look to them. Neither is right but at least it seems FTX are addressing it with a custom LC addon.

Glenn,

How about the green Grand Canyon? Same reason? Just wondering.

Yes, because those textures are also being called in other areas that SHOULD be greener. There is a very limited number available worldwide....just look at the map and the actual texture set available in the link above. Its almost (is) impsossible to get everything right without a custom landclass and custom textures. Hence why the Orbx FTX regions have to end up using their own lclookup.bgl file.

When the OpenLC landclass addons are released this problem will go away because the OpenLC stuff will be made by FTX for FTX Global and will contain. the proper texture calls and from my understanding, some extra custom region textures also. However, I would question the logic to release FTX Global without the LC being ready as, IMHO it detracts from the project, especially when you look at the 'golden screenshots' over at the FTX forum.

Precisely.  It's a balancing act.  Before we had desert areas that looked like desert (correct), but also lush green areas that looked like desert too (incorrect).  Now we have lush green areas that look like lush green areas (correct), but deserts that look like lush green areas too (incorrect).

Orbx simply balanced it in the opposite direction.  It's not exactly correct to blame it on landclass - more that the same landclass is being used in multiple locations that are / should be different, and you have to choose which one you want to look more accurate.  It is correct to say that it can be fixed though custom landclass though.

I personally am happy with the path they took - although I fly around Nevada plenty, I vastly prefer BlueSky  photo-scenery in desert areas, whereas I prefer tiles & autogen everywhere else.

I completely concur with this,  FTX-G seems like an incomplete product concept without it being bundled with the custom land class info - but that is entirely from my perspective of being one of "those guys" that got slapped heavily by the "green creep", since it happens to be very prevalent  in areas that I sim in - for many, many others (and likely a majority), the FTX-G texture replacement seems to be a real boon right off the bat, and I am very pleased for those folks - I will just have to wait a little longer for OpenLC...
