I sure hope someone finds a cure for this stuff because there is a real world out there just waiting to be discovered.

Does the real world come with an uninstaller, just in case I don't like it?

When did ignorance become a point of view? A FSX reinstall is a nightmare most of us fear for a good reason: it's a serious and prolonged pain in your behinds (quite literally too). As I see it, the problem is simple - most land class/texture/scenery devs will have to go straight away to Orbx just to make sure their products work properly. Should they decide otherwise, they risk the wrath of their clients who happen to use Global fall on them for no good reason. Who let Orbx act like god almighty?

Absolutely it does!  Should have been part of the package.

Thanks Jean-Paul...it couldn't be otherwise.

"I'm sorry to inform you that the real world solely employs proprietary techniques. So, unfortunately, the default uninstall procedure does not apply here."

What happened to AVSIM

Wow.... All those people complaining and desperately trying to uninstall an addon they don't have even have.

For the part of that which was aimed at me: I usually research the heck out of stuff before putting down my money. This was part of that research.

While I *might* be able to live with a green Abilene or Amarillo, I can't live with a green Grand Canyon. Your mileage may vary. The scenario I described was one of someone discovering the problem after install, then being unable to fix it in a reasonable manner.

Strange thread. How about doing some flying instead ?

I'm about to go do exactly that.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

When I renovated my kitchen last year, I didn't tell the contractor, "Hey, whatever you do, I want to be able to revert to my present day outdated kitchen in case I decide I don't like my granite countertops, new cabinets, tile flooring and gas range." I'm sure they would have happily given me the tattered cabinets and linoleum flooring scraps to hang onto for safe keeping. Heck they may have even offered to come in and reverse all of the work free of charge. Still, I thought, "You know, I think I might like to keep this new kitchen!"

FSX looks like a new sim with FTXG installed. Why on Earth I would choose to get rid of it is beyond me.

Except...ummm...Orbx doesn't sell kitchens?

This thread is getting more surreal...

Ah...I hadn't tried that. I'm more worried about the giant melting altimeter lying across the runway...

Unfortunately, it works the other way around. The real world uninstalls us when we have served our time

Halleluyia!

I am positive that 99% of the FTXG haters don't have it.   If they did they'd be flying

Once you fly in FTX Global textures, discussions about uninstalling it become as relevent as Part exchanging your battered old Fiat for a Ferrari Testarossa, then worrying "how you'll get the Fiat back if you don't like the Ferrari".

Well, the worries are not about getting rid of FTXG, but about FTXG affecting other addon scenery.

If you look at Jeroen's topic here ( http://forum.avsim.net/topic/415451-nickn-seems-to-be-totally-mistaken/ ), you'll see some hope, though, that ORBX can sort out not just the (minor) uninstall issue, but also the way more severe issue of FTXG changing core files of FSX, which other scenery addons may rely upon.

What happened to AVSIM

I can't help but feel very cynical about all the angst, protest and outrage over FTXG.

All the people complaining in this thread and others, including NickN - where were you when Scenery Tech released their landclass products where the installers included a new lclookup.bgl? Oh and by the way their uninstallers didn't work properly either. I don't seem to remember such levels of outrage and protest about Scenery Tech?

Orbx were pretty transparent about what they were doing with FTXG, and nobody is under any compulsion to purchase it. I can't help but feel all the manufactured outrage is about more than just a new lclookup.bgl
