August 17, 201312 yr I find it incredibly uncomfortable to have headphones on for long periods of time so I wouldn't even bother with the pro clip. I have my main volume through speakers and PRO ATC through a headset, but it's loud enough that I don't actually have to wear the headset. THe regular clip works fine with any cap, and would also work with a headset.
August 17, 201312 yr @ moss1, if you have any problem with the setup let us know, we have more than 15 years combined experience with TIR5 and the pro clip and that's just the few of us replying in this thread. Brilliant. I have the exact same problem. I'm going to try this fix. I was looking for my hat clip but I seemed to have lost it since having our floors replaced which meant I had to pack up our entire place. Good luck! I used printer paper for the task and once I got a good fitting piece it has stayed and I never bothered to get a new pro clip. It's seriously been like this for a good 18 or more months. I'd like to call it being frugal.. I find it incredibly uncomfortable to have headphones on for long periods of time so I wouldn't even bother with the pro clip. That is understandable and I would totally agree, except the headphones I'm using now are the most comfortable things ever. I forget I'm wearing them even after long periods of time. If you're interested they are Tritton's. Mine are discontinued of course but the new ones look good. Forgot to mention, they come with leather or felt style ear covers and are adjustable and cool on the head. They also look cool. haha Jon Preston
August 17, 201312 yr I use the Free Track system and a headset I built myself out of coat hanger wire, cheap LEDs and covered with shrink tubing. Whether you use trackIR or the free Free Track system, headtracking adds a whole new dimension to flying. You'll ask yourself, "What took me so long."

August 19, 201312 yr Author Ok , I'm sold on the clip.... and I'm sorry I called it flimsy and lousy...LOL! Watch, just for doing that, I'll get it shipped to me and break it the day it comes as pay back! In any event, if it has more range I'll be happy. I do notice when trying to look down at the back end of the a pedestal in the 737NGX for example, all of a sudden things go haywire with the tracking. It may very well be me as I've only spent a few hours trying to adjust. Best, Jeff

My clip is on the left side of my headphones and the camera is all the way on the left side of my monitor. Hope this helps. Also, I like to have the pro clip extended up just a little bit over my head. Jon Preston
August 23, 201312 yr Moderator I'll ditto what everyone said. I have two systems - one has the hat and the other the clip. Both work exceptionally well - I can NOT fly w/o them. It's really what you get comfortable with. Only thing to look out for is extraneous bright light source which can confuse the sensors. If ever you get strange results when you move your head, always pays to go into the tracking mode and see the light sources that the sensor is seeing. Saved me lots of trouble in the past. August 23, 201312 yr Here's a new flash for all of you. I also got TIR few weeks ago and heard the clip thing is crappy.. then I went to their forums and found some news about it! Since June 2013, NP has released a NEW track clip pro. It looks the same but it's now made of much better material according to customers posting and one of the employees posting the same in a thread on NP TIR forum. To make sure you get the latest one, you must order directly from NP store. If I were to accidentally buy the old one, I'd send it back and get a replacement.
August 23, 201312 yr Author Thanks guys, @Vic, yes, I've already seen what odd light sources can do coming in from behind me from my sky lights in my home. I have a screen room divider that I use to cover up all of my extra stuff in the studio, so all I did was move it behind me to diffuse the source and problem solved. I do most of my flying in the evening anyway. Very impressed with it so far and a world of difference. I find myself flying a lot of aircraft that have been collecting virtual dust this past year. :-) Best, Jeff
August 23, 201312 yr Trackir is okay but after trying 'EZCA' you won't bother with it any more. Dave Taylor
August 24, 201312 yr I don't know why people complain of the Pro Clip. Get it. If you take care of your things, it will be impossible to break the clip. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
August 24, 201312 yr I don't know why people complain of the Pro Clip. Get it. If you take care of your things, it will be impossible to break the clip. Really? The natural point forum is full of threads where the pro clip is broken due to flimsy materials in the design. Mine was broken in transit. They have apparently changed the design of the material used in these crucial joints and people get replacements when asked for if it is broken and is still under warranty. Much as I love the system, for the money you would think it would be a little tougher. I`m very careful with my kit and am quite happy with the repair I made to not bother asking for a replacement. If anything I would say I have strengthened the pro clip with some very tight lashing of the joint which when done neatly is hardly noticeable. Do you really think flight simmers just take there headsets of and throw them on the desk any old way...maybe some do but all the threads about the issue on Natural point forum say otherwise Doogie I don't know why people complain of the Pro Clip. August 24, 201312 yr I could never imagine flying without my trackir, I run the TIR4 for about 6-7 years now, is there any major differences between the 4 and the 5. Paul Dhanjal CYEG
August 24, 201312 yr is there any major differences between the 4 and the 5 No, not major. Version 5 is a bit more precise or has a slightly wider view... I think... Nothing huge. When my TIR version 4 brakes down I probably will buy a cheaper v4 if I can get one. I do use the TIR 5 software though: that does make a real difference.
August 24, 201312 yr Trackir is okay but after trying 'EZCA' you won't bother with it any more. I could not disagree more. First, I found EZCA an absolute bear to configure. When it worked, it worked great, but setting it up was always painful and it seemed like it lost its settings every few times I started FSX. TrackIR works great for the "naturalness" feeling of being able to turn your head and see where you are. I love it, but especially for taxiing, pattern work, and visual approaches. Jon Skiffington
