August 16, 201312 yr Well, After I don't know how many years of reading great things about Trackir, I have ordered through amazon. It arrives tomorrow. I am getting the Trackir 5, however it does not come with the pro clip through amazon. I most likely have to order that from Natural point directly. I've heard the clip is quite flimsy. However, I do want to order it, but may want some opinions as to how it performs without the clip and how many out there use it with the clip before moving forward. At last, no hat switch to deal with hopefully... :-) Thanks so much in advance. Best, Jeff
August 16, 201312 yr I think you will love it. I cant fly without it. Im so use to it, that when i watch videos i turn my head thinking im going to influence the view. lol. Taxing with TIR is a breeze and very natural. I didnt get the extra clip. I wear a hat, cut out on top so its not so hot, and then secured it onto the visor part with some heavier clips. Dont care what it looks like or i look like. No female copilots with me. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
August 17, 201312 yr TrackIR is great, you will love it indeed. I started out with the normal hat clip and put it on my headset instead of wearing a cap. It worked, but at certain angles the light couldn't be reflected anymore. Specially In the NGX that can be troublesome if you are looking for a switch down low on you radio's or way up on the upper panel, but in any plane it was a pain. So I ordered the Pro clip and it helped a bit, it widens the range. But the pro clip is really crappy designed... very 'delicate' so to speak. It basically falls apart when you put your headset down, because the two pivot points(?) are specially engineered to disintegrate on impact. Don't ask me why.. You can easily put it back of course -because it's so crappy, that works both ways- but it is only a matter of time and I will have to get some super glue. So overall it's a great device, you might want to get the Pro Clip and super glue later, but I would start of with just the hat clip. Either way you will love it. Mark
August 17, 201312 yr Author Thanks guys for the input. You have indeed confirmed the pro clip lousy design I've read about, but I may still order it anyway. Best, Jeff

Best, Jeff Hi Jeff, I am using this lousy pro clip for almost 3 years now and would do it again! If your TrackIr arrives, take you time to read to manual complete. It can be very confusing to Set up the software. Have fun and enjoy this new feeling _______________________________________________________________________________________Best regards / Schöne GrüßeWerner
August 17, 201312 yr About that 'lousy pro clip'... I've been using mine for more than 6 years already and still it looks and works as if it's new. I have it attached to my headphones (which I wear all the time behind my PC since I don't have speakers) so it gets tossed around daily, so even when I am not using TrackIR, and not always in a delicate way... but it's still working as it did on the day I bought it. So I don't know what other people are doing with that clip in their free time ^_^ but I certainly don't look at it as 'lousy' or 'fragile' or whatever.
August 17, 201312 yr I moved over to trackir5 a few months ago, bought the pro clip version. The hat clip works really well although I have a white door behind me which in certain light conditions can cause issues. But with the track clip pro it works perfect and feels more fluid with more range of movement. My pro clip was broken on delivery and keep meaning to send it back but I fixed it with lashing the joints with black extra strong thread. Its solid now so will probably not bother. They have apparently redesigned the joint where all the issues were coming from though so maybe I got an old one. Could not fly without it now and am seriously considering trying some racing sims that it can be used with. Even though I was without incident for the first 3 of those years I somewhat recently broke the first pivot where it attaches near the clip. I was able to "fix" it by rolling up a piece of paper and jamming it in to make a new hinge! Actually works better than before. Jon Preston
August 17, 201312 yr I think I read somewhere there are different versions of the pro clip, so maybe some have a weaker version. I exaggerated a little in my post and again, mine is also still working after about three months now. But I've had the clip fallen apart a bit numerous times, when the wire comes out and you have to plug the arm back in. There are two of these weak spots. For the price of the clip alone I would imagine there are better ways of designing it. On their forums quite a lot of people are complaining about the fragile construction and breaking their clip. If you have kids, I would definitely hide it from them, thats for sure. But for me the positives outweigh the negatives, I never fly without it and I try to use it in Arma 3 as well. Mark
August 17, 201312 yr Im so use to it, that when i watch videos i turn my head thinking im going to influence the view. lol. True that! When testing FSX tweaks, I will sometimes not use TrackIR. But for all "flying", it is the bee's knees. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.
August 17, 201312 yr I've had the pro clip with my TIR5 since it was released. I used it at first but for me I like the hat clip best. The pro clip has been in a drawer for at least 2 years. It's just too cumbersome with the extra wire and too delicate for my taste. The biggest problem i have is sunlight peeking through my blinds behind my chair. I hope you like it. It had a steep learning curve for me but once I got through that I can not live without it. Chuck Biggins
August 17, 201312 yr Setup sounds complicated with all the different adjustments, but if you download Seths flight profile I found it worked perfectly for me Regards Steve 3080rtx on a i7 12700k with 32 Gig ddr5. 2gig Ssd Quest 2 Windows 11

I was looking for my hat clip but I seemed to have lost it since having our floors replaced which meant I had to pack up our entire place. Mike Keigley
