Is it just me or this a little pricey?

For what it's doing, I'd charge the same if I'd written it.

Price is perfect. Just finished looking around and filed a delivery flight from KPAE to OMDB via EHAM. I am honestly impressed by this this beautiful piece of software. If you are an immersion freak, like me, and want to do everything as real as it gets than this is a must have IMO.

It's pricey indeed, I'm thinking of buying PFPX only version as I can calculate TO reduce thrust in 3 min, not worth of 15 euros imho.

Also an instant buy from me. I would even delay the B777 for it if needed. (....Runs away scared)

Seriously.  The prices have been up for quite some time, and it's really not that much.  Why is this surprising to people?

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's bad because I know what the airlines pay for similar stuff?

...and the funny thing is some of that software has worst GUI than PFPX....

Jeppesen Jetplan...Don't get me started on working that, it's like working with dinosaurs.

Why should I buy this? Everybody is so excited, but there is more (free) software to get your routes. What makes this special?

...much!

...and don't get me started on the GUIs that the FAA has that have been provided at top dollar by local contractors.  For all that money, you'd expect them to have a couple HF people on staff to say "yeah, neon green and bright pink were probably not the best choice to go side-by-side there..."

(^^^exaggeration, but still...damn...)

Honestly, most of the routes from free planners are pretty much a waste of your time.  I've yet to find a good one that will actually pull accurate NATs, or even Prefroutes (for which, there's an online data source...for free... ).

So, if you don't mind trash routes, then sure, by all means, you don't need to spend money.  If you want better routes, and all kinds of extra items like fuel planning and other additional features alongside it, then you might want to have a look.

You can't compare the two for many reasons. But no, you are not the only one that thinks its a bad price.

I usally seek a route on the vataware site (top routes) and copy this to simroutes.com and make a flightplan that way. You can export the plan is many formats. So I wonder if it is netter with this one.

No, I guess majority of people at avsim forums agree with you.

Prices go up constantly, it's interesting phenomena in gaming industry, just look at those AAA titles - goes up to 80 euros, and even indie production became money thirsty. In 1-2 years I expect industry will break that 100 euros barrier.

"It's not really that much" is very subjective statement, but at the other side, it's not a "must have addon" anyway, nor it's "must have it NOW" . It maybe saves a little bit of time, but all that can be done manually.

One more thing, how much airlines pay for similar software is not relevant. Airlines pay for aircraft hundreds of million euros, and we get it simulated for "just" few tens.

You find $53 (U.S.) "pricey"? When I saw the beta previews of what this software does, I would have assumed it would retail for much more than that. I was shocked that the price is as low as it is.

I paid 3 times that for FOC back when it was fully supported. It was the best professional quality flight planning and dispatch software available in its time, but it certainly looks like PFPX will far exceed what FOC had to offer.

Very fair price for what you are getting, can't wait to get my copy.
