Out Of Memory

Featured Replies

The question is.......why? If you are flying nowhere near Switzerland, why the hell is anything in Switzerland being loaded into memory??

I wise chinese man once said: "why worry about it if you cant change it" ;-)

Its just the way it is apperantly, and we have to find ways to deal with that.

Guys, please stay on topic. This will be an important thread for the days to come for some and it will be a pain to find valueable info later on. Thanks.

LOL! Looks are deceiving my friend.

Want proof CPUs mis-behave when overclocked? It is used to conduct cryptanalysis. By overclocking the processor you can make it do things it shouldn't. If an overclock was as simple as you say, there wouldn't be any difference over a normal processor when attacking a system this way.

I could go on for hours how there are MULTIPLE clock sources within the processor, and that they do not scale linearly with the clock speed you play with, if they change at all, leading to mis-timings within the processor itself, and odd things happening even though the system may appear to be running normally.

Sir, I know what I'm talking about when I say overclocking is bad for your health.

Best regards,

Robin.

You are not going to convince everbody to unclock!

I do agree that it is worth checking if OOMs go away when running unclocked.

I doubt it, as I dont see how VAS and OC have anything to do with each other.....but I admit, I am no hardware specialist.

I have a clocked (@4.4 GHz) Bios and a non clocked Bios and would certainly try that out if I had any problem....be it OOMs or crashes or stutters or flashes.

Now lets stop trying to prove who knows more about overclocking ok?!

hello Arjen,

i do not know whether  u are apprised about this info from the net regarding solving this issue or not. but this has helped me , since i have got a mid-config pc. i used to face a lot of this oom errors.

try this go accessories folder ,there u will find command prompt , run it as admin.. type in these lines BCDEDIT /set increaseuserva 3072 and save.

have a nice evening.

The question is.......why? If you are flying nowhere near Switzerland, why the hell is anything in Switzerland being loaded into memory??

Not sure about this, but i think this way - if you fly in the USA and you have that addon airport in Switzerland enabled, it will increase VAS becouse enabled scenery needs to have some space "reserved", just in case you decide to go there, direct or via FSX menu(without restarting FSX)to practice some landings. I think this is the reason why ACES left it this way. Also, they didn't know at that time about windows 7 64bit, PMDG 777, REX, ORBX, AS2012 etc, etc...

This is also just my theory  :P

I just made two scenery cfg's. I kept my main one backed up with everything active. I will reactivate that say when updating FTXG, etc.... I have another with just US domestic airports active. All international (for me) airports including Europe, Caribbean, South America and Asia have been deactivated. Now when I fly to a specific international airport I will change Active from FALSE to TRUE for that one airport. Easy as pie.

heres the link that helped me resolving the issue.

Don't do that in windows 7 / 64bit. This is old article about Xp and Vista, we have allready more with Windows 7 / 64bit.

I will writte this again, to minimize OOM errors risk:

-  set Texture_Max_Load in fsx.CFG to maximum 2048, never above

 - REX clouds 1024, max 2048, DXT optimized

 - Microsoft patch for heap limitation applied: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246

 - i use SceneryConfigEditor every time before i start FSX, to enable only scenery i need for my next flight http://sourceforge.n...tor/files/V1.0/

Important is to disable all payware, especially photoscenery. I enable only 1-2 continents(2 for long haul)and 2-3 airports.

- Virtal memory management should be system managed on windows 7 / 64bit(don't change default paging file like some people suggest)

Zeljko Budovic

I experienced my first OOM for quite a while yesterday. I was flying from KSFO to NZAA (Running payware KSFO and ORBX New Zealand). FSX crashed 30 miles from NZAA. I used the cold and dark-setup when starting off, and I ran into the caution warning and ILS req bugs as well. I did change views a heck of a lot as well, and I've heard that can play a part in filling up the VM towards the 4gb limit.

I retried the flight today. After reducing my AI traffic and autogen a bit, and limiting how much I changed views, it worked fine without any hiccups and crashes.

Don't waste your time uninstalling/installing whole sceneries. All you have to do is go to your Scenery Library and uncheck areas you'll be flying through. This is exactly what the Scenery Library is for!

X2 !!!  To me this is like weight and balance IRL....  Takes some time.  Often a bit of a hassle.  But a necessary evil.  Just another pre-flight step.  I also cold boot my system before each flight.

just tested time compression feature using process explorer, it seems not to be any effect on VAS. My tipical VAS usage(what fsx use) in 777 is about 2.55GB BTW. I don't know what happened last night with FSDT CYVR, if happens again i will probably avoid that airport

Huh? Sorry I have no idea what you just said. And I have a degree in Computer Engineering with a major in Security.

Really? I suggest you do some research then. My info is about 3 years old, too!!! The technique even older.

Best regards,

Robin.

Guys hi!

I'm haveing the same problem... OOM!

My VAS after launching FSx in Aerosoft Venice X is 1.650.000

No AI traffic, 4.5 LOD, HIGHMEMFIX APPLIED

then i load pmdg 777 and 2.530.000

That means it takes more than 880MB of Vas, a 100MB more then the 737 NGX or so according to my measurements.

Now I've disabled almost all of the addon sceneries i have and far from from my current location and i read a VAS of 2.420.000 .

No appreciable decrease of memory usage...

my system is

FSX AP

Win7 64bit

8gb RAM

GTX 570 1,5 GB

i5 2550K @ 4.2

Any idea?

Gino L. Patrassi

Disableing the IVAO MTL texture took me at 2.350.000 of VAS in Aerosoft Venice X with all the sceneries activated and in the 777 PMDG!

Gino L. Patrassi

B347NG thank you for apprising me about the same, mine is windows 7 32bit. well i dont know but after following the above mentioned theory i stopped getting oom even with the highly detailed 737ng. but i would go with your advice since i believe u r a learned one and i am a complete layman in this field. thank you for ur much appreciated advice. have a good evening.
