Goodbye EZDOK

Featured Replies

The Opus camera is way more realistic than EZDOK IMHO.

It more closely represents what I see in a real aircraft and actually produces different rates of effect based on the weather, something EZDOK does not do.

Considering the camera movement in Opus was recorded using acclerometer data from real aircraft, Im not surprised it feels better to me.

I definitely would have to disagree with you on that! Yes if you set EZDOK to RND mode, then you will get artificial results, but set to DHM which what I use, the effects are directly tied to the movement of the aircraft itself, influenced by whatever the weather conditions are. Here's an example of a flight in severe thunderstorm conditions, with heavy turbulence reported.

Thanks

Use different cams for knob adjustment and set DHM to off.

Yeah I could do that but it would be nice to have something like a keyboard button to hold that would temporarily turn off all head movement. I used to just bring up the 2D panel (with some transparency set) and set things that way. It's just that since the re-install I haven't missed it enough to put it back on. Maybe I will. I also find the fact that there's no pre-loaded settings for something like heavy, medium, smaller airliner, light aircraft etc tiresome, having to play a load of guesswork instead.

How can I reduze the size of the center area with FSX mouse look? Can I reduce it to zero?

If you are talking about the deadzone in the centre where it does nothing even though you are moving the mouse, then you need to look in the FSX controls menu, specifically in the calibration tab, select the mouse look option from the controls/device drop down menu (cant remember the name exactly) then move the Null Zone sliders all the way to the left.

Cheers, Andy.

Good advice SierraHotel.

The user is in total control when and where the DHM movements are active. DHM should be disabled for all camera views intended to display panels simply to make it easier to use the mouse to alter the panel's switches.

The mouse look is obviously an internal FSX function and absolutely nothing to do with Opus. No software is able to determine internal changes to the eye point or zoom level.

Live Camera Control (LCC) should be used in place of all such functions. With the latest release you can even use a 6-axis GamePad controller such as the Sony PlayStation DualShock3 Controller. Moving or roaming about the cockpit, walking or flying around the aircraft has NEVER been so simple.

But for me, as an average user, it is very complicated to understand and use. Take as an example the way Microsoft Flight enabled users to move the eyepoint within the cockpit by simply holding down the middle mouse button and move the mouse into the direction you want. If OpusFSX could implement this simple way of adjusting the eyepoint in the VC and not some complicated way of doing that with a gamepad than I would ditch EzDok and use Opus. No offence meant by the way!  B)

Can't think of ANYTHING more simple than using my Sony PS3 DualShock3 controller. I can do far more with that than with any other interface (past or present). LCC + GamePad controller is the way to go and it is now available with many hundreds of people already using it.

But the DHM and Bump Aircraft RW turbulence alone should be enough to make you want to switch. Depends how 'real world' you want your sim to get I suppose.

My FlightSim table is cramped already with yoke, throttle, mouse, keyboard. I seriously consider adding a gamepad just for adjusting the viewpoint a waste of money. Also, I do not own a PS Game controller and will not spend any money on it. I use the mouse for convenience purposes, as I am able to look around and at the same time push buttons, switch to navigation software, open charts. A game controller would complicate this. Of course, this is just my personal opinion.

As I don't not fly in real life (yet) I have no idea how real either EzDok or Opus DHM are in the Sim. To be honest, I don't really care as long as it gives me the impression the aircraft is influenced by wind and weather through turbulences. Hence, even if the DHM movements for both programs were recorded in a real aircraft, it doesn't really matter.

GamePad controllers are simplicity themselves and the ONLY device that provides full 6-axis control over the eye point. In addition the Opus method does not drain 3 to 6 FPS in performance from your sim. The mouse is left for FSX to monitor and control which is by far the best solution. Opus has no impact on FSX nor does it require any changes to the standard FSX settings or operation.

We have nothing but praise and happy users all roaming around the cockpit or aircraft using their GamePad devices. Some are even considering getting into movie making now that LCC includes support for a dedicated 6-axis controller.

We will even be offering a possible solution using LCC to the annoying FSX bug that offsets the aircraft axis, and hence offsets the eye point, for specific aircraft at various lat/lon positions on the globe. We already provide a Set Camera LCC function which people are using to get round the problem during their flight.

I do fly in real life, and NO aircraft behaves the way EZCA assumes it does in turbulence. In over 20 hours of recorded turbulence data, we never once recorded any motion resembling the EZCA motions, and over 17 years flying in turbulent conditions I have never experienced such wobbles. I do know some pilots that would prefer turbulent motions to rock them gently though. Watch SierraHotels video, that's as real as it gets.

We have had feedback from a very experienced airline pilot who is setting up some addition site effects to mimic mechanical turbulence on final approach due to obstacles or buildings (with success I might add using our User Specified Additional Site Effects). He has commented on the realism of the turbulence effects and stated that they are better than the commercial airline simulators.

Put simply, turbulent motions do not gently rock the aircraft from side to side.

Where can I find SierraHotels video? The only video in this thread of which Tom published the link uses EzDok's DHM...

Andreas Paul

Stephen or Cheryl anyone doing a video showing how to setup cameras and use game pad, to set specific views etc would be handy? Regards Wayne.

Stephen,

Thank you for your interest in the post I started, but I can satisfactory advise you that only GAMERS are using game pads.  Real flight simmers are using either flight yokes or joysticks for FSX and it is those operators you should be catering for.

Yes the only facility I miss is being able to change my view with the middle 'mouse 3'  button also.  EZCA provided this but now having tasted Opus view system as I said, is a head-and-shoulders better than EZCA.

For those having problems with TrackIR being to quick simply use the top sliding control to the left as that slows the view change.

Hi Wayne

The Live Camera guide is quite straight forward and worth while reading. It even includes a step by step guide to creating a VC camera view. There are also plenty of CDF (Camera Definition Files) for you to Import.

I'm sorry but although sitting with the manual in front of me going through it step by step, I wasn't able to set it up correctly. I only ended up with an extra outside view while I wanted another VC view. Then again when I follow my wife's driving instructions when she is reading off a map it usually ends in disaster so I guess I'm not good at taking instructions. I'll have a go at it again and perhaps return to you with what part that got me stuck. I realize of course others manage to get it up and running...
