Serious issue with ATI and Steves DX10 fix? Tears and Spikes everywhere

Recommended Posts

Cant wait to test this!.....what do u think this is doing to stop the artifacts? And does it have to stay on low 2x?

I'm not having a go at anyone here, but all I keep hearing is spikes :) and the fact that I've mentioned earlier in this thread that I do NOT suffer from spikes seems to go unnoticed.

If I were a doctor, scientist, engineer I would jump on the fact that someone that is using ATI Is not having issues. That would help me find what's different.

Because FSX has such variances within it like add-on scenery aircraft etc and couple that with different hardware, albeit that we are all on ATI GPU's but they may not even be the same model which could be a clue also.

Clearly, having these spikes is extremely annoying so lets try and help each other.

What are the conditions where the spikes manifest themselves that you can recreate without difficulty. Bear in mind I only have UTX/GSX and very little add-on scenery. So is their a default location, airport for example where you take off in direction x with set weather that always or has a greater than 50% chance of seeing spikes? The first thing is to establish a control because only then will a cure be found.

I'm using the 13.4 drivers.

Well. I guess Anywhere I have water and land mixed with alot of Autogen around. KSEA? In a payware plane.

Setting water to High and having Scenery and AG at Dense and Very dense and the fixer set to 8xAA and my driver at Supersample and FSX fps set to unlimited and fly with lots of clouds... 5 minutes and I get spikes.

Guess I could try it but this sounds like madness. LOL

Charles, I don't think this is THE answer. I tried it to see what happend BUT my other changes were still in place so one or several of them are keeping the spikes away!!!

I had that problem and I could fix by re-installing the drivers for the video card, so it has to be sure you have completely uninstalled the previous, otherwise the problem continua.el previous page leave a small tool and explanation.

lod 6.5 IS NOT THE SOLUTION. Spikes and scrambled eggs.

Please test without Bufferpoolsection though gents, (thanks)

I just tried LOD at 6.5 and no artifacts/spikes!! I did get some stutter but your CPU/GPU are much stronger than mine so I would expect that. Hope others are having some luck!!

I did this test and with LOD 6.5 and 2 hrs into my flight (4x aa in fixer, medium PC in REX, Radeon pro useing app settings with 16x supersample) and I got them again, My water shader and cloud shader is unchecked in the fixer as well as water on low.2

They just returned :(

I think im going to go back to DX9 very soon :( This is getting ridiculous.

Another thing I would like to note is that when these artifacts appear Im not getting any performance hit at all.....

I have realized that its also a lot to do with angles.....When I pan a little left a flat sheet of texture/artifact can vanish...and when I pan back it can appear again, controlling its appearance.....my performance stays in-tacked and not effected...

Yeah, it doesn't take much movement to make them disappear, just move your cam an inch to one side and it's gone, and sometimes you get to see totally different kinds of artifacts. Tilt yor cam back, they disappear and the originals are back. I've given up for the time being and have returned to DX9 with some cool SweetFX settings, but I'll keep an eye on this thread just in case there is some positive development in the future.

To recap; this primarly happens to AMD 79XX users? Are there no other add-ons that everyone with this problem here is using? Like Mogwaisoft Shades, REX textures...anything? You can pretty much see all my addons and compspecs on the left side...

One last thing; I used to use Steves DX10 Tool(the free version until GlobalFX came out and the lights were destroyed) and never got the artifacts. It might have been discussed already, but what are the main differences between the DX10 Fixer and the DX10 Tool...?

I never fly more than 2 hours. My &@($* can't take it. Gotta go do something else after 90 minutes to be honest. That said, I can force the spikes with water past 2xLow and using heavy clouds.

For longer flights in DX10, I have had to dial back some settings (cloud density to high and stick with 4xAA in the fixer) in which case I seem to completely eliminate my DX10 Spikes.

I might have to consider going back to DX9 as well. (To be honest again, I fly in Dx9 alot already unless I am testing) But going DX9... What do I lose? Cockpit shadows? A bit better handling of a few heavy airports in terms of smoothness. But that's about it at the end of the day. Oh and 4xSSAA looks a tick better in DX10 than in DX9 but that could be completely subjective.

When I do fly in DX10 now, I will dial back clouds a notch and live with it. I guess in reality? I would not be flying precision approach minimums very often in IMC conditions in a C172 anyway. Or my other favorite planes like the C377, C340 and so on. Not unless I felt like shortening my life.

I know the big tin guys love it though.

Two truths have emerged for me in all of this and that is...

#1. Pushing my system too hard in DX9 = some stutter and low fps.

#2. Pushing my system too hard in DX10 = eventual graphical corruption well into the flight.

And by too hard I mean settings and AA levels in weather.

Charles.

I've stayed out of this one, because a) I have Nvidia, and b). because Charles is the genius when it comes to understanding ATI graphics.... but I have to ask - and it may be a stoopid question, but all the guys having these spiking issues...

What numbers are your "[Traffic]" settings at? Can you post these.  My testing - a year ago - found that I could make FSX spike - and stop spiking - any time I wanted to by altering the road vehicles number.

Is there any link here?

DX10 is OOM friendly so i will keep trying. Maybe its related to people having more than one screen ? Anybody out there using only one LCD who will report back ?

Tonight ESSA-EFHK 25 minutes in to the flight an it all began over water (low x 2)

BTW: my AA does not neet any Multisamples lines in FSX.CFG. No differents at all. So i have deleted them. Did not use it with my old card anyway . However i do not have AA in DX9 now (???)

Forgot to write that AA DX9 behavior started way back when i switch system/card/clean reinstall. No big deal since i dont go back.

I use a CDUII and a 15" as pfd and nd for the NGX. I can see that the line antialias=1 is not present under these monitors. Only on the main LCD. Is this normal?

Charles, I just got spikes in extreme clouds and wind at 23,000 feet on a 4+ hour flight. I am going to dial back my fixer setting from 8x to 4x and try again.

My testing - a year ago - found that I could make FSX spike - and stop spiking - any time I wanted to by altering the road vehicles number.

Paul, my road traffic is set at 10% and all other traffic is set to o%.

My air traffic is set to 40%, GA at 10% and airport traffice at minimum.
