Sadly, I'm not surprised.

Coding big radials is hard - just ask the A2A crew - and people want the modern navigation equipment, moving maps, autothrottles etc. in part because they like simulating today's jetliners, but also because they are relatively easy to fly.

It takes a real commitment to learn a prop liner....and I expect it's a fairly small group that is truly interested in it - and growing ever smaller as those of us who actually saw these planes fly shrinks...

C-117D is a separate download, available here.

I'll give you a mini-review from a few flights last night before I got too tired to continue.  I, like others, have been waiting for this for some time now...and it was worth the wait!

I won't comment on the external details, because I don't care that much about them and never have.  Since walkaround visual inspections are not a part of FSX I rarely even see the outsides of the airplanes.  Beta testers have praised the accurate details and a brief look showed amazing detail but I leave this to others to report.

I work in the cockpit, and what you need to know is that this version has a very modern cockpit layout based on the Basler BT-67 by the same team, but reworked a bit.  It's a gorgeous working cockpit with fine detail and 3d controls, sporting a modern autopilot and the GNS530/430 combination of GPS units.   The engine gauges are familar but in unusual places for a DC-3, but there is no standard cockpit layout for the DC-3 and the one chosen here is reasonable.  An oddity that I can't explain though is why with such a modern layout the six standard flight instruments are not in their standard configuration.  The HSI is where the altimeter should be, the altimeter is where the turn-and-bank should be, and the turn-and-bank is where the HSI should be.  The overhead is very Basler with somewhat different switches, very beautiful and functional.  Makes you wish the circuit breakers would work -- but nearly everything else does.

The only major missing thing I noticed in the cockpit was the cowl flap controls.  It's possible to manipulate them from a 2D popup but it's clear that the physical layout of the Basler (which does not have cowl flaps) was adapted for this model.  The team is said to be working on a possible traditional DC3/C47 cockpit that would solve these minor issues.  There is no 2D cockpit so if you're still a 2D pilot you're out of luck here.

The operation of the aircraft is where it shines.  The engine start sequence is wonderfully accurate.  I highly recommend -- can't recommend it enough - downloading the sound set suggested in the readme and install it.  Without question the best DC-3 radial sound set I have heard!  It's music flying this airplane.

The FDE is outstanding.  The airplane flies heavy, like a C-47, but very easy and precise.  But there are some surprises.  The RPM settings are more sensitive to changes, and to changes in the manifold pressure, than I am used to in other FDEs.  And, there is an engine stress package that will fail your engines if you operate them out of parameters  -- but apparently this is only if you leave your engine gauges operating out of the green for too long.  The stress is cumulative for a flight but reset when the airplane is reloaded.

All in all, the best FSX DC-3/C-47/C117D ever offered, and it's for free!  Hats off to the wonderful team that labored long and hard with infinite details to give us this gift.

I believe the wait for a really awesome DC-3 simulation for FSX is over.  The only improvement I'm still waiting for now is a more traditional version of the VC for this grand old lady.

Hi Dutch,

For me your DC3C is the best so far. Is there a chance that the depth of the DC3C system simulation could be applied to this latest version?

I already applied the essence of the systems simulation the the version 1 of this airplane, but it used the old original VC.  The "new" VC (actually the BT-67) is missing some important components (inverter, etc) that I'd need to put into a 2D popup.  But it could be done.  At the moment though I'm working on FSCaptain, but once that release (1.4.6) is out I may have a little time to devote to this.

Here's a link to the texture basepack, which includes the VCs.

I haven't had a chance to download any of this yet, so I'm not sure how to assign VCs to aircraft.  I'll get back to you on this, if others aren't able to get you the answer first.

On sim-outhouse I can't I got this and the support don't answer :

You do not have sufficient download allowances available at the moment
Allowances: 0 files/0 used, 0 bytes/0 bytes used, 0 bytes uploads/0 bytes uploaded

Hmm.. I think I know what they're on about.. I think you have to get your account approved by a moderator by sending an email or something.

The problem is it's not possible to upload anywhere else without their permission so we have to respect that.

You don't need to get your account approved my a moderator.    I just registered, had an account within 1 minute (Via a link to my email), and downloaded the aircraft / sound.

The plane flies fantastically;  really amazing FDE, by far the best DC-3 effort so far.   With regards to the VC; well actually the main instrument panel texturing is fine, and the main gauges are fine; it's currently let down a bit by the overhead area texturing, and the use of the ugly default radios and autopilot gauges.

But even with this in mind, it's still the best DC-3 so far.

PS.... Amazing engine sounds, and lovely 'switch' sounds in the VC too.

I guess it was another forum where you have to do that... ok cool, then cut the whine guys and register. SOH library is plenty!

You have to do what you described at the Milviz forum;   register, then email and ask to be approved....

But Simouthouse is just registering, and then getting the email activation link, and you're off!
