A bit surprised no decent dc-3 is available for fsx..

I'm sending you a PM then. Thanks for great personal service, despite our diffrences. Mighty professional of you.

That said, the current DRM system is an annoyance. I sure hope you at least add a link directly to support in your activation dialog box. But as the saying goes, you can't win 'em all over. Too bad though. There are still some attractive aircraft in your collection that I'd like to try out, especially since you offer many of them for P3D.

LES DC-3 got you all covered  B) ...or even the Felis Il-14 if you dare take on the russian counterpart, which is amazing.

[buzzer sound]

The russian counterpart was the Li-2. The IL-14 is akin to the CV-240 and M-2-0-2, all of which were designed to replace the DC-3.

This derivate is also quite interesting:

Amazing how the DC-3 - or a derivate of it - was a worldwidely popular aircraft even prior the outbreak of WW2.

As a customer, what if - knock on wood - JustFlight became defunct?

There's a tough balance between making life easy on paying customers, and trying to combat piracy.  To be fair, JustFlight is not the only add-on publisher that employs such systems.  I bet I have add-ons from half a dozen different add-on developers and publishers that tie their product into their servers.

I too would prefer a DRM free simming existence, but the reality of that ever happening is extremely remote.

Just to let you know I've had no PM from you yet. No problem just didn't want you thinking I'd ignored it.

Had an e-mail from your support guys when I got home yesterday. Everything solved. Will try a reinstall this weekend and hope everything will work OK. I'll be in touch if it doesn't.

Not a major issue, but it took 22 hrs to get it solved. Problem is, I do all my flight simming after work hours and your support team is avilable during office hours. I fileld the contact form on your support page around 7 PM in the afternoon. I got a confirmation that my case was being handled by the support team at around 9 AM the following day. Then around 2 PM I got an e-mail asking for my serial numbers. Since I can't access my private e-mail during the day I couldn't reply instantly. Lucky for me I got an answer that my activation limit was reset at around 5 PM. Again, I don't expect your guys to have 24 hrs support service, but I do expect you to design your software in a way that prevents me from rarely, if ever needing support to do something as simple as installing it.

That said, if I now get it installed, can I backup the files in my simobjects, gauges and effects folders and just drag and drop it back into FSX the next time I need the aircraft? I don't want to go through this again, and I have a few more aircraft from you guys that most likely will suffer the same problem at some point.

I hate to bring it up, but guess what. Now my DC-3 Expansion Pack can't be installed either - Unlock limit reached... Sigh...

Just dived into the system here to see if I could reset this for you myself this evening but can't see the product listed in your account.

Did you purchase from another vendor?

I've added the product into your account regardless, so you can download and run it again as if a fresh purchase if you wish.

Thanks for the HU, and a great Thank you to the development team!

Great, but for the love of sim why Sim Outhouse and not the Avsim file library?

Oh well, I for one will wait for some feedback before bothering to register there. I really hope it's good, as the OP said, a good looking, well simulated native FSX DC3 is long overdue.

Great news! Can't wait to take it for a spin around Iceland.

It's driving me mad! The files went up just in time for me to download them before bed.... now I've got to spend the whole day in work without being able to do anything with them! ;)

Am contemplating a minor industrial accident.... ;)

I'll give you a mini-review from a few flights last night before I got too tired to continue.  I, like others, have been waiting for this for some time now...and it was worth the wait!

I won't comment on the external details, because I don't care that much about them and never have.  Since walkaround visual inspections are not a part of FSX I rarely even see the outsides of the airplanes.  Beta testers have praised the accurate details and a brief look showed amazing detail but I leave this to others to report.

I work in the cockpit, and what you need to know is that this version has a very modern cockpit layout based on the Basler BT-67 by the same team, but reworked a bit.  It's a gorgeous working cockpit with fine detail and 3d controls, sporting a modern autopilot and the GNS530/430 combination of GPS units.   The engine gauges are familar but in unusual places for a DC-3, but there is no standard cockpit layout for the DC-3 and the one chosen here is reasonable.  An oddity that I can't explain though is why with such a modern layout the six standard flight instruments are not in their standard configuration.  The HSI is where the altimeter should be, the altimeter is where the turn-and-bank should be, and the turn-and-bank is where the HSI should be.  The overhead is very Basler with somewhat different switches, very beautiful and functional.  Makes you wish the circuit breakers would work -- but nearly everything else does.

The only major missing thing I noticed in the cockpit was the cowl flap controls.  It's possible to manipulate them from a 2D popup but it's clear that the physical layout of the Basler (which does not have cowl flaps) was adapted for this model.  The team is said to be working on a possible traditional DC3/C47 cockpit that would solve these minor issues.  There is no 2D cockpit so if you're still a 2D pilot you're out of luck here.

The operation of the aircraft is where it shines.  The engine start sequence is wonderfully accurate.  I highly recommend -- can't recommend it enough - downloading the sound set suggested in the readme and install it.  Without question the best DC-3 radial sound set I have heard!  It's music flying this airplane.

The FDE is outstanding.  The airplane flies heavy, like a C-47, but very easy and precise.  But there are some surprises.  The RPM settings are more sensitive to changes, and to changes in the manifold pressure, than I am used to in other FDEs.  And, there is an engine stress package that will fail your engines if you operate them out of parameters  -- but apparently this is only if you leave your engine gauges operating out of the green for too long.  The stress is cumulative for a flight but reset when the airplane is reloaded.

All in all, the best FSX DC-3/C-47/C117D ever offered, and it's for free!  Hats off to the wonderful team that labored long and hard with infinite details to give us this gift.

I believe the wait for a really awesome DC-3 simulation for FSX is over.  The only improvement I'm still waiting for now is a more traditional version of the VC for this grand old lady.
