I love the old prop planes

Featured Replies

Okay, so I'm getting all set up with FSX and FS9 (after many years of absence). I really like the old piston prop planes like those of 20's through the end of WWII. Is there anyone making FSX high quality oldie moldies? I do have alabeo's Waco and Staggerwing, a very nice start. But I would like to have a Cessna Bobcat, a Beech Super 18, Cessna 310, and a Stearman. I am awaiting the release of the freeware DC3 that looks fantastic!

As a kid, I lived close to our local airport (Alamosa, Colorado) and I would see on occasion John B. Maytag's converted A26 Invader making it's approach to land. Off I would go on bicycle to watch it land and then stand by it as the engines would crackle and pop as it cooled down....an A26 Invader would make my day in FSX!

I had the MAAM C47 and B25 in FS9 and I probably still have the discs for which I am searching.

Anyway, I digress...any good oldies out there for FSX?

Milviz do a very nice 310R.  A little newer model than what you might be thinking of (like Sky King's second "Songbird", a 310B), but definitely recommended.  http://milviz.com/fs/item.php?id=C310R

Well you just get on over to the Sim OutHouse, 'cos there's a DC-3/C-47 with the most incredible sound package made.

It's been released a couple of days, and now takes the "King of the Hill" - and - it's FREE!

All the Best,

Dave Garwood made a nice DH89a Dragon Rapide package that's available from the Avsim file library. Full virtual cockpit and sounds.

Outstanding!  I'm off to see what's what!  Thanks a bunch, guys!

The soh A-26 invader is pretty good and its free. Rambaz is working on an a-26 that should.be out soon aswell. I love the A-26 and if I ever win the lotto I'm buying one instead of a learjet. Also you might want to try the alebeo staggerwing its the best Classic GA plane out there

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

The Sim Outhouse Beech D-18 made by Milton Shupe is also very nice.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Also at SOH - Milton Shupes Spartan Executive. It ports over to FSX nicely sans one thing, the starter.

Change the following in the aircraft.cfg, under [piston_engine], normalized_starter_torque = 0.668 //0.158

A dream to fly for those shorter executive flights :-)

My personal motto is "honest airplanes have propellers", but I have to admit to flying newer (Beech King Air) prop planes too.

Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.

Also, I should mention Rick Piper's DHC-1 Chipmunk, a complete package with VC, panel, sounds etc and comes in several different versions.

And Dave Garwood's Auster J1 Autocrat, which has nice little touches such as the grab handle straps moving with the aircraft.

Whilst not everyone's cup of tea, the Just Flight DC-6B is still a nice rendition, and the best DC-6 around for sure.

I have pimped mine out with Reality XP GPS avionics, internal XML sounds, engine sounds converted from the amazing recently released DC-3's "TW_Radial" sound package (converted to 4 pot), and even some replacement instruments, like a retro-fit HSI..

It's all I'm flying at the moment; loving it.

I like the Connies the most, there are fine models from Manfred around, but the VC isnt shiny.. but works.

I've just finished reading your Propliner magazine Johan, and yes, I can see you favour the Connie! .... I'm a DC-6 man all the way, myself  ....   It was a great read, thoroughly enjoyed it; you should do more.
