PMDG position in P3D with Boeing, but how about BaE or MD?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I just saw the position of PMDG in P3D post this morning. It is clear to me.. nothing to say. But I would like to ask about the MD11 and Jetstream. PMDG is tied totally to Boeing?

Sorry if this has been asked other time.. just wanted to know, but it seems that when the 737NGX came out, and this 777, all the rest of magnificent planes where forgotten.. and they are just stunning!!! at least for me... and would like to learn more from them in P3D if possible.

And the next DC6? Those are not Boeing. Maybe BAE and McDonnell Douglas say the same as Boeing.. Maybe not.....

I don't ask about xplane (I am part of the Laminar team), because I think they said clearly they were going to release something for the sim.. and I am quite happy with that, but I like to see the PMDG work anywhere, because they are outstanding.

Well.. I hope this post is not seen as bad intention talking.. or whatever.. I know in this area the guns are up and smoking!  (sorry for my english)

McDonnell Douglas is Boeing, since 1997.

Boeing is the legal successor to the McDonnel Douglas company, which is a legal successor to the Douglas Aircraft company. So there you have the answer about MD-11 and DC-6.

As for BAe, well - the EULA still stands and I hardly think they would change it.

Boeing is only one part of the PMDG aircraft equation - I think Robert stated that rather clearly -; another part would be the (current) strictly non-entertainment purpose of P3D - I think Robert stated that rather clearly also.   B)

And the equation has even more variables than just two ... (If my memory serves me correctly even that was stated by Robert.   )

What happened to AVSIM

Ahh didn't know about the MD (another thing learned today! I can go to bed!!) With BAe, I don't want to talk about the EULA, but seemst hat if we have an Airbus X, we could have maybe the Jetstream also... But of course this is PMDG decision of course. Who knows.. maybe they could make other company planes for P3D.

Anyway.. They are welcome for xplane as said.

I hope they will get all the legal stuff clear and possibly create stuff for Prepar3d some day... I would love to fly their 777 in it.

To Captain Randazzo and the entire PMDG team. Thank you for the update on your efforts to work with Boeing and LM on possible use of your products with P3D. I am very encouraged by your comments and the fact that the possibility still exists of compatabilty. Good luck and God speed to all parties at the table. I can't speak for all of those on the sidelines hoping for a resolution but you have my prayers. Compatability of PMDG with P3D products would truly be a milestone in the history of flight simulation.

It will be interesting to see the position in 9/12mth,s time ,if the take up of P3d V2 is big enough to make developer,s wonder if there is still a viable market in fsx only product,s. look at QW statement regarding producing for FS2004 , Xplane from what I have seen on Avsim Today seem to already have some very high standard aircraft add ons thought by some to be  similar or better than  PMDG in quality ,so they will no longer be alone at the top of tree ,but one amongst a number of  top line developers,no doubt there products  will be good enough ,but sale,s are king and being the company everyone looks up to and desires to purchase to being one of a number is a diff world ,also what is the market size of Xplane can it deliver the same volume sale,s as FSX did ,and lets face it if P3d is that good and a big improvements on FSX then the best add ons must be there, just think no FSX to balls up your flying exp,  I think it will be a very interesting yr for the flight simming world ,

It's not a market issue, or agreements with other manufacturers.  It's a legal issue.  Granted, that may extend to between PMDG and the partnered manufacturers, but there's also a fundamental issue between PMDG and LM.

Reread the post if this is not clear enough.

Kyle Rodgers

I think the whole point is that PMDG has allied itself with Boeing so therefore when potentially dealing with another organization in the real world they should talk to Boeing first, lets not forget this is a commercial application we are dealing with, not some freeware product. We have seen a hundred products that are Airbus, Boeing, Cessna or whatever and none of the developers are allied like PMDG is with Boeing. So therefore it's quite understandable that PMDG will want to clarify with Boeing what they can do from a legal standpoint... It doesn't help that LM are pressing ahead with P3D development like it is a type of home use, developers have also not helped by pushing this out to the FSX community as though the license has changed. Those developers may say P3D is the next big thing for flightsim but what they do miss is the fact that P3D is not a home use product and their website clearly says so. I'd say until LM clarify their intentions for this product, especially with regard to the add on community than PMDG just simply cannot proceed as the statement said.....

Lawrence Ashworth

I have no doubt or issue in this discussion. And I respect whatever agreement PMDG-Boeing and LM do or don't’.

But just to clarify:

Those developers may say P3D is the next big thing for flightsim but what they do miss is the fact that P3D is not a home use product and their website clearly says so

From Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D Frequently Asked Questions Webpage.

Can Prepar3D be used at home?

Prepar3D can be used in any location. Where you intend to use Prepar3D is not a consideration in the licensing EULAs; it only matters how the software will be used. As specified in the EULAs, Prepar3D can be used for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment.

(Emphasis mine)

Cheers.

But just to clarify:

i was gonna say. Home use and entertainment use are different terms.

i was gonna say. Home use and entertainment use are different terms.

Indeed they are!

Clearly LM say so in the quote I posted,

Its really a shame that the word 'Entertainment' holds so much weight.  Prepar3d doesnt have a problem using it at home for learning and simulation but not for entertainment. So the question is what is 'Entertainment'.  Im pretty sure that nearly all here are not here to be entertained as a game like going through red squares for points and would rather learn and simulate aircraft to the highest realities it gets like PMDG does so well.

I respect the legal aspects, and I sure hope it can get resolved amicably. Imagine the possibilities what PMDG could do in P3Dv2 with so many bugs and limitations fixed.
