November 25, 201312 yr I really don't see how different platform the p3d vs fsx is, except the liscencing. Do they really have to reprogram their airplanes from bottom up to be compatible with p3d? Thanks for any explanation! Hi Ivan, even if the two sims were actually identical, they are (MS were) still produced by two different companies Microsoft and Lockheed Martin. LM produced P3D using the original FSX code after acquiring it from MS. The initial release, including upgrades, was to all intents and purposes a very nicely revised FSX, with some changes making the sim more stable. Many, including myself, could never really justify the move across because the benefits were never outweighed by all the investment in FSX. However, P3Dv2 is different. Although still a 32bit program using the original code, LM have, to all intents and purposes, taken in apart and rebult it. We will have to wait and see just how much of an improvement things are, but if you read the information on the LM website, you can see that some of the changes that have been made are mammoth! November 25, 201312 yr Well, if the P3D lisence cost the same as the FSX lisence I will buy my first PMDG aircraft as soon as it is available. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
November 25, 201312 yr This seems pretty clear to me.. We'll have to wait and see. Licensing and Use: =============== Unlike products developed on the Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) platform, products on the P3D platform will be offered with a range of licensing options. These options will initially include only a General Study, Education/Academic-STEM and Familiarization licensing model but will eventually expand to include licensing models to cover training, classroom training and training center/airline site license versions. Customer Licensing for General and Personal Training licenses will be handled directly through PMDG's current eCommerce portal. All other licensing options will be handled on customer-specific non-public portals. Costs for licensing of P3D based products will vary based upon the license model chosen and the desired use. This will enable PMDG customers to choose a range of cost options based upon their needs and license requirements, from Home Entertainment (using FSX) up through PMDG Certified Training Solutions customized for specific airline customers. November 25, 201312 yr Look on the bright side... no more annoying threads strated where a poster laments at the absence of PMDG from Prepar3d 2.0. True, but now we're in for a whole lot more of this... ...and for those who bought pmdg 777 for fsx? hope there'll be a strong price reduction for them (included me) ....
November 25, 201312 yr Even if I have to pay for the NGX and 777 again to use in P3D I will. Q1 2014, the quarter FSX finally is taken off life support. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4 Eric

I'm continuously dumbfounded by the ability of our community to find things to complain about. Before the P3D release I read so many "no PMDG no P3D" posts and now that all the stars have aligned, P3D V2, PMDG jumping on board, there are still complaints and griping. Today is a great day for our community! A new platform, one of the best addon developers announcing support for said platform and we still find ways to be negative, I don't understand it. November 25, 201312 yr I honestly don't think they'll have a wide enough customer base on the truly professional level to price the sim community out of the market. The fact that they are releasing different licensing levels speaks to this. Otherwise, why have them?If I had to guess, I'd say that "general learning" license will be priced more then FSX but still within a range simmers can afford. This way they get to play (and profit) from both sides of the fence. You've got people spending $90 on their 777 for FSX already. I'm gonna guess the same people will still buy more expensive licenses for P3D no matter how much they cry about it in public.
