PMDG going XPlane

Featured Replies

I doubt we will see that in the XP 10 life circle. In the past looking forward to a PMDG product was very important to me. Meanwhile, with quality add ons available and more coming, I'm more relaxed.

Hi Ralf!

I fully understand, but just thought this - in my opinion - quite informative update by PMDG (aside detailed release dates, which i did not really expect anyways ) worth mentioning here in the XPlane forums nonetheless.

Cheers, Christoph

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

It is very important and thanks for posting. I don't check the PMDG forums often.

Quoting Mr. Randazzo:

"We do not have a firm ETA for release of PMDG's pending line of Xplne products.  The first product is in late development but we anticipate a longer than normal testing/qualification period due to our lack of familiarity with the Xplane platform."

Cheers Christoph,Thank You for the info.I'm thinking The first PMDG Aircraft for X-Plane will be The DC-6 that's being developed for FSX as well.

It's really funny that in this X-Plane section of the forum the "PMDG goes P3D" thread has 60 posts, while this "PMDG goes XP" thread only has 5 posts.

Okay, we all know that they will do something for XP, but ... strange anyway.

*bump anyway*

Hi Patrick!

Would be interesting to know and find out indeed - but we will soon know more ... Okay: Maybe not soon enough for us dedicated flightsimmers , but at least we now have some time for great speculations!

Cheers, Christoph

Maybe it was not that much of a surprise as PMDG once already mentioned that they will also support XPlane - but(!) - and i think this is an important difference:

Until now there was no real "official" statement from PMDG regarding this matter - well, until recently!

So for those many flightimmers out there who - just as myself - really like all these great PMDG planes but who also use - or at least follow the development of XPlane (such as myself) with greatest interest - this is great news indeed and i dare to say that this may help XPlane a lot to gain a broader user base in the future.

So let's see what the future will be holding for us flightsimmers out there - but one thing's for sure already by now:

At the moment it all really looks very, very interesting and very exciting again - in a most positive way!

Cheers, Christoph

In the last couple of weeks/months, X-Plane seems to have exploded onto the FS scene! Yes it's been around for years, but now people are being more open minded and realizing you can have 2 sims, it's not just one or the other.

I was absolutely ecstatic reading PMDG's statement on developing X-Plane add-ons. It's just what the XP community needed, the "cool kid" to join the group.

The only thing I'm concerned about is that we don't yet know which plane they are developing, but they seem to indicate that it isn't the NGX. If they release a lesser-known plane that not many people will want, then it might not sell as well, which will stop them then from developing further products for X-Plane.

If it's a plane that I have no interest in flying, then I won't buy it, even if it has the PMDG stamp. I would however buy an NGX if they released that.

Quote from Robert:

"...Upon completion of this project, we will evaluate the market demand and the Xplane platform's viability as a platform for future growth of our PMDG BAe JS4100, PMDG 737NGX, PMDG 777 and PMDG 747-400v2.0 product lines with an eye toward making these products available to Xplane users."

Meaning to say, if their first product is a runaway success they will be looking to see if there are appetite for more.  I would say bring them on PMDG, more money for you guys anyway.

Bingo, whether you see further development by PMDG, is going to be made solely by the X-Plane community. If they buy it and support it in sufficient numbers, you'll see more, if not you probably won't see a second attempt. The FS9 community found that out, when they begged and begged PMDG for a FS9 version of the MD-11, which PMDG, did produce, but when sales weren't as high as expected, they cancelled development of an FS9 NGX and further models. If the numbers aren't there, they will not invest.

Thanks

Absolutely correct!

But in a future - hopefully not too far away -  we will find out anyways whether the desired sales numbers will be reached then - or not.

I hope they will be reached though - and sure i am willing to support this with my creditcard then!

Cheers, Christoph
