November 27, 201312 yr All I see in here is praise and performance praise in default Prepar3D. Who plays their flight sim like that? Some have Orbx Global installed and state that alone already hurts performance. There are plenty of freeware airports out that kill frame rates. Why no one is doing stress testing of this new sim, I'm unsure. Only reason I'd consider buying P3D is if there is a large performance gain at similar FSX visuals. So I put to you, if I see 10fps at my usual settings in busy airports, will I see it increase to >17fps in P3D?
November 27, 201312 yr I'm not sure if you will gain fps. But, you do bring up a great question. Until our fellow guinea pigs are happy after installing all there addons, with the same, if not better visual quality and AA settings as FSX, I will be holding off. What is most concerning is the risk of OOM at heavy paywares with P3Dv2. It remains to be seen. November 27, 201312 yr Sure, I've been about to post a similar request. Can someone please offer some feedback for something like... FSDT CYVR + Orbx FTXG+ Rex+ AI traffic (addon)+ something like the NGX in the virtual cockpit with 4/8 cloud cover. I think this would be very interesting. This is just an example, but as the other guys have said, all the talk so far, at least most of it, seems to be related to default. If anyone could help, I'm sure it would be appreciated, cheers. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/427293-never-before-could-i-do-this/ That is very impressive stuff! November 27, 201312 yr Glad you bought this up VB. It seems most people are giving glowing reviews based on default aircraft, no traffic, and no scenery addons. I'm concerned about what I've been reading about VAS usage. What I'd really like to see is a report on is how are complex airliners, with addon scenery, addon traffic and wx programs working in v2. You may say that's a lot, but I cn do that in FSX right now. I believe p3d will fix everything eventually, but right now I'm not interested in performance using default planes in Default scenery. Addons are what have made FSX for me. Default? Who plays their sim like that, indeed... "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
November 27, 201312 yr I am very sure than Lockheed Martin does not expect its customer base (especially its main target audience) to be using default anything either!! Give it some time. We need the addon devs to do two things: 1) get to grips with the way P3D works in terms of differences to FSX despite the obvious similarities. 2) get new official V2 installers out to us. November 27, 201312 yr Good points Glenn. ================ Are you guys reading all the threads ?! Myself and many others have posted about the use of multiple add-ons. Ok not everything, it's only been out 3 days and I'm only spending 30 mins a day installing stuff into it, so that I still get some time to enjoy it. Yesterday I flew the Airbus Extended, with OpusFSX weather that was overcast from Aerosoft Stavanger X ENZV, with a low cloud base (pretty heavy weather), and I had AI air traffic at 20%. I had VC shadows (only) in use, at the 'medium' setting, and plenty of the volumetric fog going on. Both autogen settings (there are two in P3D2) were on very dense. On the ground at Aerosoft Stavanger, I had approx 30 FPS (I am locked at 34 FPS on the advice of the LM rendering expert), On climb out, through all this heavy weather I had late 20s. Above the clouds, I was banging off the limiter (33.9). In FSX, I would probably have had the same FPS on the ground (but with lower Autogen settings and of course no shadows), but once I hit those clouds and fog I would have been in the late teens...... I also flew the feelThere ERJ and QualityWings Avro also in heavy weather, from FlyTampa Vienna; very similar results. P3D2 rocks........ with add-ons. 'nuff said!
November 27, 201312 yr What is most concerning is the risk of OOM at heavy paywares with P3Dv2. It remains to be seen. This is the crunch question for me. If P3Dv2 is no better than FSX with respect to OOM issues, then there is absolutely no point in me purchasing it. Having said that, I will be extremely surprised if this is the case. I was under the impression that LM had significantly improved the memory and VAS management in P3Dv2. Having said that, I will be extremely surprised if this is the case. I was under the impression that LM had significantly improved the memory and VAS management in P3Dv2. LM have pledged to fix memory leaks (as recently as a few days ago) and are actively working to improve things. If you get an OOM, go post the circumstances over on their forum. This is the difference between FSX and P3D. Both may give you issues but only one will fix them.
November 27, 201312 yr I prefer to keep my money until the issues have been resolved, Bonchie  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
November 27, 201312 yr You could also say that the more support and cashflow from purchasing P3D means its more likely to stay being 'fixed' and in development from LM's point of view. I have a feeling that LM are paying close attention to how this venture evolves. Its nice to have a large 'AVSIM' type community actively involved almost as testers for them so that they can make it better overall, but obviously with the main focus being on the 'pro' users who are forking out 1000's of dollars for true training setups. Its a win win for them. and us in the long run! :yahoo: Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
November 27, 201312 yr I have a couple , more complicated aircraft installed and in use. BIG hit on performance. Been monitoring GPU usage stats. Scarry big numbers. Had to bump up my default GPU fan speed from default to 60% for cooling. Default planes dont phase performance. Global FTX, REX Textures, RW Weather KJFK.
November 27, 201312 yr I prefer to keep my money until the issues have been resolved, Bonchie  You can use it for 60 days and just get a refund it things are too sketchy at that point. As for OOMs, people are reporting high VAS but has anyone actually had an FSX style OOM error yet? High memory usage is only half the story. The important thing is how it manages it and releases it in situations where more VAS is needed.
November 27, 201312 yr Yes, that is exactly what I would like to know before considering my options. Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
