A good time for X-Plane

It's been a good month for X-Plane, especially alpilotx's mesh and Skymaxx Pro. I've uploaded some screenshots below showing what X-Plane is capable of, even on my average-powered laptop, I'm averaging between 20-30fps (which is more than enough for me).

This is a flight I did from the Isle of Man to Liverpool. The detail in the OSM/Photo scenery/Mesh v2 is stunning, and combined with the sky from Skymaxx Pro, it also looks very realistic.

This shot shows that finally flying into clouds doesn't cause a grey wall of death, and performs great as well. It can make for some very scenic instrument approaches

As above using Skymaxx Pro for clouds

This is using the new updated mesh from alpilotx and photoscenery somewhere over Dresden. Lakes and rivers clearly stand out now.

Taken over Berlin, showing how good OSM and photoscenery can be.

Another over Berlin.

Edit: Also worth adding is the seatraffic plugin (free), which adds real moving boats on real world routes. You can see in the first shot the boats crossing the mersey over to Liverpool.

so nice. these shots are amazing. i might just have to get me xplane

Nice shots. And it might be an even better idea to post them in the screenshots forum, to spread the word. Here in the XP forum we know how good X-Plane looks :Hypnotized:.

My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...

This product looks absolutely amazing!!!! It really does. For the first time ever, I am seriously considering buying X-Plane just because of this. I've been checking out the JARDesigns A320 and the SkyMaxx stuff too and really, that combination, IT IS VERY TEMPTING to say the least!!!! Watching a youtube video right now and it just looks gorgeous!!!! Might just be the best scenery I've ever seen in a flight simulator to date!

Is it possible to move this post to there? (If a moderator is reading, could this be done)

Hang on!   I havent put on the mesh V2 yet,  is that first shot all stuff from the mesh v2, did it have the OSM as well?

What/where did you get the photoscenery for it?

All of the shots have the new mesh v2. For the first shot, I had the original photoscenery from simheaven.com and added the new mesh myself. It makes a big difference, bringing in roads, powerlines and if you look closely, you can just make out the coastal and water features. If you don't have g2xpl, I'm sure simheaven will begin updating his downloads with the new mesh.

The OSM I generated myself using osm2xp a few days ago as I'm actively working on that area. Even without the photoscenery, and just the mesh, it still looks incredibly realistic. I'm quite happy to share my settings, or how I generated the scenery, etc, if anyone is interested.

May I ask if this

is  OSM Europe only or OSM Europe + autogen?

Plus Berlin ZL 17 photoscenery?

Plus Europe library?

And below it the new mesh v.2?

How do You stack it in the scenery.ini-folder to get this?

I'm still new to XP and confused about which add-on has what kind of OSM-data and how to stack it all on each other to get the best effect...

( Photosceneries and OSM-Data are offered for free on www.simheaven.com. Thank You PilotBalu!)

It's OSM Europe only, but I don't use the download from simheaven, I generate it myself, with my own settings that I prefer. i.e. Smaller buildings, less view distance, denser forests.

- Plus Berlin ZL 17 photoscenery?

Yes, Berlin ZL17 photoscenery. I downloaded this from simheaven. I generated the neighbouring tile Brandeburg myself using g2xpl.

Plus Europe library?

Yes, although this only makes a difference on autogen.

And below it the new mesh v.2?

Yes, I had to do this myself, as PilotBalu hasn't updated his sceneries yet.

something like this:

  1. OSM (I generated myself using osm2xp). Although pilotbalu's would be fine here as well. It's just 2 months out of date, and I'm actively contributing to osm, so I like to keep up to date and see my changes.
  2. All my photosceneries (which have the new mesh baked inside them). I had to do this using g2xpl, but shortly pilotbalu will probably update his site with these.

I also installed the mesh v2, but it won't merge with the photoscenery by itself, you need to use g2xpl to do it. If you put it lower than the photoscenery you won't see it, if you put it higher, you won't see the photoscenery.

Ok, thanks for Your explanation! Cool stuff!

I'm not that deep into all this so I happily use what is provided to us and I already like Simheavens photosceneries.

I haven't tried the new v2 HD mesh but have been avoiding the OSM scenery from Simheaven altogether as I found last night I was coming into the London city area during an approach to EGLL and it completely brought my system to it's knees. I was literally getting 1 FPS.

If I have it turned off it's fine, I suspect it's the sheer amount of combined OSM and autogen objects being drawn in one concentrated area.
