Don't always fly from where I last landed but every new aircraft I buy or DL gets the same first flight - KTUS-KPHX

It's not so much an obsession for me as it is a case of familiarity. That said, I almost always fly out of either KSEA, or one of the smaller airports in the Sea-Tac region, simply because I live here. There are times when I'll put together a 1 or two hour flight between major cities, but those are usually as random as can be.

good thread started herethere are several ways to fly fs9:1. the willy-nilly method, - this is flying whenever, whatever and wherever. just hoppin all over the place2. time stands still method - this is where you fly from the last place you landed and keep the same time. for example, i fly a B722 from KLAX to KSFO, i leave at 1pm and get there at 3pm (just for argumentive purposes), now this method dictates that the next flight must depart KSFO and go ?? BUT the time i fire up fs must be 3pm and the date must be the same, regardles of the real-world date/time.3. fly from where you landed method - this is as above (#2) BUT the time and date are allowed to change to either whatever or real world4. time keeps going method - this says the fssim world keeps moving no mater what im doing. for example, lets take from #2, ok, so ive just landed at KSFO it is 3pm, sim time. now i have to and do a real-world event (like work, pick up kids, grocery shop, etc) now i want to flightsim again but its been say 8hrs later, at this point, im free to start anywhere that the above flight could have gone in an 8hr period, so i could start at just about any airport, but not say at london or something, the real time lapse wouldnt have been long enough.option a: i should note that the option of flying in real time or not can be added to any of the above methods.what i like to do personally, is do #4 but in real time. so let me give you an example of this morning.i got up at 530am, since the whole night passed i can pretty much pick wherever i want, i last landed at KBOS, so during the night i pretend that ive flown or jumpseated into KSAN, so now i depart KSAN, hauling cargo in the B722 into KSFO (my VA allows open flights, not scheduled). I fly this flight in real time, so now if i fly again, i can start anywhere (depending on the real world time that elapses from when i landed).i also mix up a little #1 in as well - depends on the real-world time i have to do soi hope this hasn't been to confusingciao!Brian S

Ciao!

My situation is a bit different. I frequently will "slew up" to some altitude in order to test whatever it is I'm working on, otherwise it would take way too much time to accomplish anything...However, I've simply can not simply leave any a/c "hanging in the air" and quit. I've got to land it somewhere, anywhere actually! ;)

I once did just like you. I wanted to test if it were possible to go from Sweden to the American continent in a Cessna. I started at SAVE Gothenburgh and flew to an airport in Norway. Took of from there and got to Vagar then to Iceland then a couple of airports in Greenland and then over to Canada. Now I fly only where I have some addon scenery like USA and Europe.

I have always flown from where I last landed for thousands of flights over years and years now. Just kind of a tradition I guess!Randy Jura, KPDX

I always takeoff from where I last landed.I have made several times the tour of the globe this way.I make generally short hops of 1 or 2 hours or even less (except for the crossing of Atlantic or Pacific)Each time I visit other towns in the region. Then I go to the internet and try to find sites about the towns and region .As somebody else has already mentioned, you learn much about geography this way.Guy

Okay, okay... you got me. I don't ever fly from my last landing spot. The truth is I never make it to a landing and two reasons are for that:1.) I crash2.) I run out of timeBesides, who needs to land???? It is a much over rated aspect of flying I tell ya!!!I have to get me some more egg nog! :)

And here from a european that really needs to seek help... :)I fly from where i landed but... Only by realworld schedules in the realworld type airliner in realtime and realwheather. I go to the airports webpage and decide where to go by real schedule, if i have the appropriate plane i like to fly. If there's a realworld delay i might hold also. If no suitable flight available i might take a cargo variant for the plane i like to fly or for the place i want to go. Lately i did a lot of flights for Aurigny in realtime, which brought me to a real neat Britten Trilander freeware package. At this moment i do the real Ryanair schedules because this brings me to the GAP add-on smaller airports scenery i've otherwise wouldn't visit :)Best regards, Gerrit

Yep. I too sometimes research towns via the Internet that I'm visiting in FS2004. My flights run from 30 minutes to 2 hours, at most, though sometimes I spend the first 30 minutes just working my way through the checklist of a more complicated aircraft. At a large airport, just taxiing to T/O and waiting on traffic can take 30 minutes, or longer, but then that makes the airborne phase all the sweeter. :-) When you're committed to flying from where you landed last, you appreciate the performance differences between aircraft. Often times I'll choose my aircraft based upon what will get me to my destination in a hour or less. Flights over water are the most boring, and for that I'll resort to a complicated business jet, or even an airliner, though the Wings of Power large aircraft or other large vintage model can be especially fun. Time compression helps too, though trying to manage a flight at 4x or 8x tends to make me anxious, which is not what I flight sim for. ;-) -- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32WideFS 6.401ActiveSky 2004 2.0 for FS9.1FSUIPC 3.44 RegisteredFS Force 1.02FSNavigator 4.6.0.0LAGO FSELinksys Wireless Router 802.11bBASE SYSTEM (Running FS2004):Intel Pentium 4, 2.0 GHzWindows XP Pro SP2512MB PC800 RDRAM,8100128MB ATI Radeon 9600 ProCATALYST Windows XP 3.10 video driverDirectX 9.0bViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystickNETWORKED SYSTEM (Running WideFS Client & ActiveSky 2004):Intel Pentium 3, 850 MHzWindows 98 SE384 MB RAM

I have to find different airports where they don't know me, so I fly from wherever I can drag a plane out of a hangar. I start out with really good intentions but when it comes to the landing I generally leave a pile of scrap somewhere near the perimeter fence. I've gone through a good part of Washington state and I'm now shifting my activities towards Colorado. In fact I am in the process of ferrying an MD-11 to KDEN from KSEA and even though I've got about 2 hours to go to touchdown I have the feeling it will all end in tears. Again

Hmmm, I was always told that takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory.

I always do simply because the majority of my flights are for the virtual cargo company I fly for.Sometimes, when I go on vacation, I'll duplicate that flight (to a certain extent), but I'll still start from where I landed last.

Hey, I'm glad others share the madness! ;-) I always fly from where I last landed, though I don't often do consecutive routes with the same aircraft (or even airline.) Sometimes I'll have two separate "tracks" going: one in Europe, Asia or Africa, and one in the states. I have fun with it, anyway! :7Mike Tucson, AZ"You must be the change you wish to see in the world"--Mahatma Gandhi
