Incredible program. Just wanted to say how much I enjoy it and how useful it is to hopefully spread more awareness about it. Its great!

I ended up buying it too. I like the way its designed and the features you get. I would like to see a bit of improvement on how it profiles aircraft and calculates fuel. There are also a few glitches with the display of routes on the map. But it's also fairly new, so I'm hopeful for the newer versions.

How does this compare to PFPX?

It has some bugs.

- some NATs don't export for example KJFK to EGLL  It shows in the flight plan though

- some airports don't show all SIDS/STARS like EGKK (even though you have the latest AIRAC)

- weird routing sometimes on long flights like LIRF to Dubai, it had me going east to Singapore, then back to Dubai.

- when crossing the international dateline you have to go all the way to the other side to see your route.  The map turns blue on each half, if you will.

You can configure aircraft templates for fuel flow, but there are not many that come with it.

I do like how you can see the upper level winds, but these are not taken into account with fuel flow.  There's a moving map so you can taxi, takeoff and monitor your progress.  It's integrated with VATSIM so you can see everyone else flying around.

It does use almost 500 megabytes of RAM.

Will it auto Plan for you or does it only rely on Routes entered by other users?

This is the one thing that Simbrief doesn't do

I'm not completely sure of this but I think it uses some services like wayfinder and other route databases, it does not calculate on its own...and so I think this is another low point that does not justify, for me, the price. Many times I had to fix manually the route it calculated, using mostly the old but nice and free online wayfinder.

Yeah, better to pay a bit more for PFPX. They seem to have it on sale regularly

PFPX is no doubt better for planning in terms of routing, fuel, even TOLD if you have Topcat too. But the whole package is pretty expensive IMO. It can also be a bit overkill for some people. I love realism, but more in the aircraft then anywhere else.

EFASS needs some work, but has a nice set of features. It connects to online ATC networks and has a map. It can connect to MSFS or X-plane, and if you don't have WideFS, it provides it's own server for running EFASS on a second computer. It also has some Aivlasoft EFB like features like tuning your com radios with a button click and automatic map display based on phase of flight. But I like that it uses real charts and not generated charts from nav data. I find EFB to be missing data on many of the charts. However, you have to add the charts that you need for a flight into your library. For flight planning, it works pretty good, and is fully automated. It will look up a route, display the weather, pick runways, SIDs, STARs, generate random passenger/cargo levels, give you a passenger list, and calculate fuel. Aircraft profiles are a bit limited in that you specify operational weights/limits and general fuel burn for climb, cruise and decent, but you can't specify rate of fuel burn for different flight levels and weights. Wind needs to be factored in to the flight plan as well. I've suggested some of this and it sounds like they are working on it.

Just as a heads up, I would definitely stay away from buying this software. The support is gone. There are outstanding bugs and response on the forums from the developers is zero. One person posted on the forum having purchased a licence and waiting over a week to activate the software with no response from development.

Just a warning.

Hm thanks for the update Adam -- I haven't purchased the software yet...I patiently sit through the countdown timers on the dialog.

PFPX seems to be the way to go then, but there are yearly subscription charges?

Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

I believe that PFPX has an optional subscription service, but I think you get a year for free. If you haven't already, take a look at simbrief as well. That along with skyvector and the various websites that have charts, works well for me.

rcboffa -- looks like they just updated the software. There is a new change log with the latest release.

Thanks for the update.

I'm just hoping they fixed some things, because the latest content on their website suggests they are mostly working on new features.

There have been a number of updates recently. Most of them have been Beta which required a manual install.

Well, I've looked this over many times and it's just no good. The have been releasing updates at a rapid pace, but it's all just new and fairly useless features. The bugs are all still there. The fuel planner is horrible and I've yet to get anything usable. Several flight plans indicated 0 fuel required and this last one below says my release is less than my enroute, plus my reserve 591 gets me 46 minutes but my 53 mins enroute uses 2904?

TAXI OUT 50 ........ 00:05 CLB NM 38

APU 0 ........ --:-- CRS NM 142

ENROUTE 2904 ........ 00:53 DSC NM 62

CONT 35 ........ 00:03

RESERVE 591 ........ 00:46

EXTRA 500 ........ 00:39

RELEASE 1886 ........ 02:26

I'm also missing a lot of waypoints on the flight plan when I put in a custom route.

Very disappointed.
