EFASS Electronic Flight Assistant.....One word..."WOW" And, it's free!

Featured Replies

I have just downloaded and installed EFASS, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. All of the advantages I have become used to with EFB and all for free. Setting up on my second PC was really easy and took mere seconds to achieve. The author also says it will also run on a tablet, although I haven' t tried this, yet.

It also imports the created flight plans into the most popular aircraft PMDG, Aerosoft etc. I just cannot believe this is being offered free. Well worth checking out.

How does it handle approach plates and Aerodrome charts?

I haven't installed any yet, but according to the manual it's really easy, well if it's as easy as the networking, I 'll be able to install them in my sleep...;-)

Reality Is For People Who Can't Handle Simulation!

I stumbled upon it today while reading the NavData Pro update.  EFASS is a direct competitor to Flight Sim Commander and a bunch of other programs.  I think it may be better.  I see it as the Swiss Army Knife of FS utilities all rolled into one great package (flight planner, moving map, weather map and overlay, logbook, and much more) .  It is so good customers are requesting a donation button so they can pay for this FREE gem.  Mike put the web link in the message above.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, amazing addon.

Hi mate, web link is at the bottom below my blurb  And just a quick update, I have been using EFASS now for a few days, I cannot fault it, networked it's as smooth as butter (and twice as tasty) And everything exports just as it should. Perfect 15 out of 10 as far as I'm concerned. Would I "pay" for this...In a second, without doubt.

It really is great, it grew from an Xplane Jar A320 utility into what it is now and I still can't believe it is free.

Here are just a few of the things I have found in EFASS:-

Easy to install and network (no really) either through it's own little server prog or wideFS

Flight Planning, an absolute gem, this uses the real live weather (yes that as well) to give you the correct rw and SID (not been wrong so-far using UT2) And the correct Star and rw.

Moving map, which initially is zoomed in to the airport showing parking and taxiways which on takeoff zooms out to show the full map.

Live weather, either from the weather servers or your weather file of choice i.e ASN, Opus etc. (I've only used the live weather so-far)

The ability to show sigWX (fantastic with progs like ASN, Opus etc) turb, icing and their severity, high level winds (just like PFPX)

If flying online, it shows available controllers and other flights (I haven't tried this, yet)

The ability to print and export your FP (long list of supported a/c)

The ability to link your VA and transmit PIREPS etc.

Quite a long list, and believe me when I say I've only just scratched the surface! My sincere thanks go to Virtual RYANAIR, who introduced me to EFASS. Thanks Guys.

I've been using it for a couple weeks now on long hauls.  It does do NATs, but it does not export the NAT waypoints at least in FSX format on some routes (JFK to EGLL is one), while others work.  The way points are in the FP, but does not show which NAT it selected.  A previous version had NATA in the FP, but no way points.  I guess if I looked carefully I could determine which one it selected. You can turn on different level upper level winds on the map and see that yes it did select a good route based on wind.  You do need to update the AIRAC for it as well.  It automagically shows VATSIM as well.

The aircraft database for fuel burn is pretty small.  I've been using the Ramzees 777 for Captain Sim and the numbers seem off.  I have been adding quite a bit extra.  Of course you can add an aircraft and it includes every setting  from start  up to shutdown.

So EFASS is free. After 14 days you can decide, if you want to pay for EFASS, or if you want to continue using the free version.

Any idea of what it costs, and if changes the way the program works?  This looks like it's worth it as donationware.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I knew it wouldn't remain free for long as it has gotten more popular. Just got this from the forum:

Well, to clarify things:
It will still be possible to use EFASS for free with all it's functions and features. I won't and can't tell you more now (pricing etc.), because I don't want to make false promises.

I really love the program, I use it all the time for my X-Plane flights, and I am absolutely willing to pay for all the functions it offers.

So what part of "It will still be possible to use EFASS for free with all it's functions and features." didn't you understand?

Just found out when you look for the chart for your airport (wherever it may be) it takes you to the Jepperson site, downloads and installs the chart for you....This just keeps getting better.

You fail to miss the point that there will be a FREE version and a PAID version. So right now we have an 100% complete program and in the future we will have a 100% complete program for 14 days and then we will go into some reduced version which has not been announced yet. Time Limit? No Online capabilities? There will have to be something to separate FREE from NON-FREE. Now I'm not complaining as I have been using it since near day one and it's my favorite by far for it's X-plane support and will happily pay.
