An Interesting Future for Outerra

Featured Replies

yeah it works just fine without the allowext command

EDIT. I figured it out. But it's not worth using shadowplay or fraps since fps take a massive hit even when you are not recording. The built-in recorder doesn't seem to work for me since the videos have green noise. Sigh. I have over 700 subs on my youtube channel. It would have been epic if I managed to upload a video.

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

Hmmmmm.... No idea then. Cameni time.

EDIT: No wait. Remove the parenthesis after the word allowext

Are you trying to open the Y4M raw video files, or the converted webm file?

Y4M uses a special extension (LZ4 compression of frames) that makes it unreadable by other tools. You can turn that off be editing eng.cfg and setting video = 0, but the resulting raw video files will be slightly bigger.

In any case, the webm file should be ok. Maybe the problem is in the player?

yeah the files are in y4m format. But Outerra doesn't ask me to convert it into webm format after I am done recording.

Btw I am using VLC player. It is properly updated and is working fine.

Edit: I edited eng.cfg like you said and now it works fine but the size of the video is huge. Thanks Cameni ! Finally I can upload some videos.

Hm, maybe videomaker.exe can't run because of a missing dependency. When you go to bin\video folder and try to launch videomaker.exe, does it produce any error?

I clicked on Videomaker.exe but it doesn't open. Doesn't give any error either. I guess that explains the problem.

No, that's actually OK. It does not do anything if not given the path to the video folder as argument. If there was a missing dependency though, it would display an error.

So I guess it's not given the right directory when launched from outerra.exe, Eng.log will probably contain some info about that.

I found a bug there, and a possible cause - if your data directory or the video directory path contains spaces, videomaker won't launch.

fantastic video Baber!! Love the trees shadows and how you jumped out and walked around the plane after, very nice!

Nice videos. I've been playing around with the full version for a few days now and it is most impressive. It's like driving, flying or walking through Skyrim, without the cities or monsters of course. It's still a long way from being a flight sim, but that will come.

Another Update.
