Great, or in other words, if i am not mistaken and if i remember some of my very basic japanese language-knowledge correctly:

... sugoi!

totemo sugoi!

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

Blue sky is not that far south yet, but this is the FSGenesis version;

Not bad!

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

With a 680GTX no less!

Dam... in 10 years.. if I'm still around... it'll be holodeck like.

The really cool thing about that is mostly for FPS games... I can see you following a fresh laid trail of stomped grass to find bad guys.

Then there are Crop Circles.

In a way, its really just another sign of how game tech is flying forwards while simulation tech has been mostly stagnant. In Outerra, the two might find a way to meet in the middle.

I will be cautious with everything related to GameWorks. They produce interesting content and solutions, but it's the equivalent of a spyware in the video game industry. It only perform well on their hardware (wich in a sens is logic). Problem is, by the time of Physx it was only additional graphic features, wich is okay ; but it seems to transform slowly into a low level solution for devs.

As a result, these games only work well on Nvidia's cards.

However, I hope we will have this kind of physic interaction with grass one day in Outerra

Brace for collision?

In reply to some query's about what might be coming next, Cameni replied that "Closest to the release is the support for collision shapes for vehicles and static objects, and lights."

I like the sound of collision shapes, but like the sound of lights, even more! No dates can be guaranteed for anything, but for those wanting to prepare for the upcoming collision shapes support, there is now a small document with some more detailed information.

Just another example of how far sims have fallen behind (graphically!)

I would say though that the type of detail shown in the linked pics is the result of nearly obscene amounts of money and many man-years of design-by-hand. The result is a beautiful but relatively small area.

The strength of Outerras procedural approach is a fully programmable and easily user-modifiable world that might, in time, (years!) dare to approach something akin to these levels of detail for the entire earth.

I think in the end it will be a race between single-source and massively crowd-sourced worlds.

  • 2 weeks later...

People are dumping stuff on the New Outerra model sites like there is no tomorrow!

Lots of would-be 3d modelers and converters trying their hand and fiddling with transmissions, physics, axles, textures, scripts, animations and what-have-you. The future being born.
