An Interesting Future for Outerra

Featured Replies

Outerra continues to move forwards. Will the flightsim community step in, eventually?

In the meanwhile here are some first attempts at importing buildings via OSM2WORLD by user Mottomi, who has had a long-tern fascination with the possibility of Outerra Cities.  B)

Since the developers have already said that OSM integration is an intended feature, its not beyond the realm of possibility that Outerra might one day make an abrupt quantum leap from its current fairly pristine state to one of bustling cities and towns in an outrageously compressed period of time.........

Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, Outerra and Uriah509's Aerokinetics mod reaches for LEO!!

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

I wish the guys over at flight gear would start using this for their engine it'd make on hell of an open source sim. Built for the community by the community

FG is licensed under the GPL, Outerra isn't. Unless Outerra goes GPL, there's no way in hell that FG can ever be powered by it.

Some news from Outerra :

Devs will probably release a new update before Christmas (lights and some other stuff)

Uriah is doing insane progress with his rocket mod (be sure to check the whole thread, it's really interesting and well documented):

Levi contributed to this mod but he also seems to be working on a new plane :

KW71 created an in-engine chart for texture values (F0 and roughness):

Andyfly managed to create a grouped IA for his Orca model : http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=3077.msg32787#new

Finally, I will release a new version of my Talkeetna scene in january. There will be a single addition that will add a lot to the scene :P

It's incredible, I can't even imagine how much 3D modelling work that required, it takes me long enough to make a box house :-).

Even running on a low-spec machine, Awac9's videos are always interesting!

Official release for KW71's water mesh : http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=3104.msg33126#new

It's more or less a solution we found to have some inlands waters while waiting for an official support with rivers vectors. It's not perfect, but KW71 did an amazing job to create the most simple and good looking solution :)

I will finish it's implementation in my Talkeetna scene soon :)

Well, Levi does it again for the new year!! Honestly, this is a great example of how much impact enthusiastic and talented members of any community make. For the attention these releases continue to draw to Outerra, Levi deserves some applause!
