  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

How about train, planes automobiles and boats. And how about all at the same time.

I'm starting to drool now

I like that Idea a lot there is a sim that does that it's called vehicle simulator you can fly a 747 or sail an ocean liner or just drive a jaguar XKE through a village the only issue is the flight psychics aren't very good and the graphics are a little dated The screen below is vehicle simulator I'd love to see how amazing this ship would look in Outtera!

Yup, you're right. But....... this video was more about motion and aesthetics.

Since I don't have clouds to glide through to convey a sense of movement, I had to use the scenery to do it instead.

Honestly, this is what I hope Outerra evolves towards, while remaining open enough that enthusiasts of each genre can access and tweak the engine and underlying physics to their hearts content. The puzzle pieces are slowly coming together.

One can only Imagine an alternate universe in which the Outerra guys and the vehicle simulator guys got together........

Is the second screenshot a photoreal area?

2nd is an aerial picture of the actual place.  ^_^

Oh, I thought that was in Outerra.  :P

I wish.  ^_^

But! Cameni has mentioned that for a possible flight sim they will almost certainly be using the newly released 30  meter SRTM data, which should add a lot more detail. http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/

They are also intending to add local rock variations eventually, which should help a lot with variety and appearance. So maybe something like that second picture will appear in Outera some day.

Sounds great!

That crater is just amazing (real one)... in the second real pic, you can still see the ejecta blanket headed SW (assuming the top of pic two is north). I'll have to fly over it, as I believe I have blue sky coverage there.

those shots are amazing. they really need to make it easier to make airports and such.

A railroad boxcar size chunk of iron did that. I did read somewhere that twice the mass of iron would have made a crater ten times as large.

Go Outerra go! I am getting to old to wait much longer!

Thanks again Devon and everyone that is working to make this happen.
