April 27, 201412 yr My last post on this: Please submit a support ticket at HiFi about this. This is not AS support, and we aren't even in the AS Forum here at AVSIM. I have, but OP was asking about the product and so I thought he should know some of its limitations that I have experienced.
April 27, 201412 yr I bought asn with the discount for as2012 owner. It's fantastic . I'd recommend it
April 27, 201412 yr Is it possible that the station does not report every hour? No, Jim that's not it. If you go here: http://aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/ you can see up to the last 36 hours worth of METARS that were reported by a given station, and stations Mike's referencing are reporting regularly. Note, while the main page map on this site shows the continental US, you can search on any ICAO identifier. And yes, I have seen intermediate METARS inside of ASN historic wx, including for Canadian stations. I'd flown out of CYBL on an arbitrary day a week or two ago for example and was updated to a xx25 report. The issue here seems to be some spotty missing data. For example, when I checked yesterday, many North American stations were missing the 1500Z data. Interestingly enough, that same 1500Z data from yesterday now seems to be available as though its been filled back in, but there are now missing reports from wx a few hours old. Almost seems like the issues are with same-day historic data. Scott
May 1, 201412 yr Just finished my 1 week trial, and I agree, WOW!.. But price is too much for me at this point.. maybe someday when the Credit is zero (if that ever happens)... Boy FSX is one expensive Genre to get addicted to!
May 1, 201412 yr the sale it never worked.. but they do 10% every Tuesday.. so if you want to get a 10% discount on it, hit PC Aviator on Tuesday's..
May 1, 201412 yr Can't help but think it would be a good move by HiFi to announce a deal when the 777 weather radar is released. I for one would be in there like a shot. Paul Skol
May 1, 201412 yr I doubt PMDG will be doing a deal so why should Hifi. You already get a big discount if you own one of the previous 3 weather engines from Hifi. Cheers, Andy.
May 1, 201412 yr Can't help but think it would be a good move by HiFi to announce a deal when the 777 weather radar is released. (...) ASN is the deal. And so is the B777. What happened to AVSIM
May 1, 201412 yr I know, I know, y'all love ASN. I've never owned it. I am a happy REX user and would not be up for a change but for the PMDG radar. I will either stump up full price for ASN or - more likely - hang in till I see whether other engines can talk to the PMDG software. I'm sure I'm not alone - all I'm saying is that lots of us in that position might be persuaded to migrate earlier, if there's a deal available. HiFi might equally reasonably stick by their guns and their prices, and I couldn't complain. Paul Skol
May 1, 201412 yr Two things in Rex bum me out.. the Cloud Popping and the Speed Jumps from severe changes.. if it wasn't for that I could be happy with Rex.. Is it worth 50 bucks more to fix.. at this point I think not.. lol.. I think I need to join FSX anonymous and start playing DCS more or something!
May 2, 201412 yr I used REX Essentials Plus for about a year, the textures are great and I still use those but the weather engine isn't even close to ASN in how it loads and depicts weather. The GUI of REX is clunky and unintuitive too. I bought ASN a few months ago and I never thought it would be so much better than REX, or is REX just so bad maybe? ASN just feels like a more streamlined and smooth experience and I couldn't be happier....well, the server overload problems are a bit annoying but that is being rectified with more servers in both Europe and in the States. I'm sure there are a lot of people are happy and satisfied with REX, I was too, sort of. But ASN are two steps above, easy and quick to configure, loads fast and seamlessly.
