26APR14 - P3D Development Status Thread - Updated

Featured Replies

Thank you for the update. Sometimes not knowing is worse than knowing.  In this situation I'm afraid we are in for a long wait.

Having PMDG aircraft fly on the P3D platform would be a major step forward in the evolution of flight simulation. It's always nice to have something to look forward to.

I haven't had FSX on my computer for months but I get it's time for another re-install before I forget how to fly the NGX and 777.

Been away for quite a while and this is good news as the T7 is unusable in fsx even after building a 3,000 dollar system still T7 stutters after everything I have tried to fix it.

Gents-

I just removed an entire discussion from this thread because the primary poster in that piece couldn't be bothered to sign his posts.  If it happens again I will ban him for a few weeks to see if that helps him fall in line with forum guidelines.

Rich-

I'm running the 777 on a 2 year old machine that cost half of what you describe.  I'm running at 40-60fps continually using nothing but ORBX scenery and high end airports...  (Heck even when running it in the development environment I still get better than 30fps) If you are having trouble getting the 777 to run well- you might be well served to spend some time conversing with Ryan.  Something is definitely wrong in your setup...

Could be something you have installed that you aren't using- could be something you have installed that is set to run in a manner that just kills your resources...  Either way- these problems can be solved.

10 bucks says your setup is defective or you haven't tweaked properly.

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

But don't have any expectation like... Q3-Q4 of 2014?

Show some pictures/videos at least :)

I would think the products would be a port from FSX, meaning it will look exactly the same.  As far as time frame, sounds like they are in the thick of it with discussions regarding licensing with their partners... and who knows how long that will take.

I know I am really looking forward to the 777... right now P3D is really hurting for a nice long range tube liner.  Miss my KIAH to OMDB flights... better drink some coffee on those flights :)

Hi Robert:

My last machine was a 2700k with a titan - now a 3770k with a titan - corasir dominator platinum's - keep getting stutters bare bones fsx new install all tweaks added only 777 on both machines same thing stutters -  you know I have been at this for at least 15 years so pretty sure I know what I am doing, due to this I have given up on flightsim for close to a year, I hope P3D can help with this, thank you.

Oh by the way just bought the new Corvette Stingray - silver exterior an amazing car :)

I've found that running with an incorrect affinitymask setting for your CPU can really screw your frames up. I have an i7 2600 (4 cores + 4 logicals). Was running at setting 84 for months with mediocre performance, then changed it to 14 ( through a recommendation in another forum) and my frames increased by about 30%.

It may also help to completly remove your graphics driver and re-install (ensuring any old display tweaks that you've forggoton about, that are possibly hindering performance now, are removed).

Good luck.

Troy tired that the only thing I can think of which happened with both pc's is when I start the pc sometimes it shuts down and restarts itself - wondering if my power supply is bad as this is the only thing that has been used on both builds a corsair AX1200 thinking of getting the new AX1200I maybe the T777 is pushing the power supply to hard ? maybe Ryan can chime in here as I am out of ideas other than a faulty power supply which is about 4 years old

Didn't read the original post but perhaps the OP didn't know about the guidelines?

And this whole banning thing -- doesn't really work wonders for your PR -- my assumption now is that PMDG gets *very* upset because you don't sign your name and has to resort to banning because of these guidelines.

My 2cents I recommend a 'softer' or friendlier approach (perhaps tell or remind the OP?).

Thank you Robert, I know moderating a forum is difficult.

Rich, based on what you mentioned in your hardware setup... a 1200 watt Corsair power supply is likely overkill and don't see how it could possibly be pushed too hard with a single GPU and a 3770K.  I have a GTX 780 and 4770K and with tons of add ons, etc on P3D I easily make due with a 750 watt power supply.  Hardware is getting more and more efficient so the days of needing huge power supplies are pretty much gone... that is... unless you are running 3 titans ;)

There is likely something that needs to be tweaked... I suggest googling NickN's guide to setting up and tuning FSX (if you have not done so already)... I guess that is part of FSX's charm, but there are scores of things that could be causing your stutters.  Though P3D does not have my beloved PMDG products yet, not having to tune anything easily makes up for it... I always thought it was silly how much FSX needed tuning in order to have an enjoyable experience.

Ben-

Thank you for the short lesson on how to moderate a forum.  Darn I hadn't learned that in seventeen years of it.  Why couldn't you have shown up sooner?

Seriously:  We are quite lenient..  Lots of PMs.. and when the PMs get ignored we take stronger measures.

This forum has a MUST READ at the top... and yes we do require that you read it.  If you don't- we point you to it... as do other users in the forum.

We are about to really dial up the attention because this forum has gotten rather aggressive of late.  Happens once or twice a year and we have to weed out the poor performers and then the overall tone improves.

Remember:  it is the 5% causing all the headaches...  Google "Broken Window Theory" and you will understand why we go after the primary offenders as strongly as we do.  It isn't hard to fit in here...

Good one Robert :)

Thanks Phil but tried all the tweaks available thinking it might be power supply as they are not reliable - pm sent to Ryan on his thoughts, take care.

Rich-

Ryan is in the midst of finals at the moment... he is barely talking to me at this point so don't be offended if he takes a few days to get back to you...

(but give him hell when he does... tell him I gave you permission!  B) )

you know I have been at this for at least 15 years

So you mean that isn't a current pic of you in your avatar rich?  Same for me, the 777 is the only special needs aircraft addon that I have at the moment.

Let's see what happens with it when the SP is released.
