Hi guys

Am I right in thinking that the licensing hurdles are licence partner related I.e Boeing and NOT LM related.

Blessings

Since Robert talks about license partners (notice the plural), I'm guessing they'll need to iron out things with more than just one single company.

That's not what the entire debate/problem is about.

I'm trying to think of any reason why any company would suffer from PMDG releasing their products to P3D....

There's a huge licensing difference with regards to products being used for private/entertainment purpose, and licenses being used for training/commercial purposes...

That's not what I said. I know there's a licensing issue, but I don't see why anyone would NOT change it so it works with P3D.

But.. PMDG are? Hence this thread?

I have to say... I don't see what you're on about? PMDG are in the process of doing exactly what you're describing.

Granted, chances are very high that there won't be any entertainment licensing available on P3D, but they're still doing it.

This kind of stuff takes time, and a lot of it.

Thanks for the update! Can't wait to see the first PMDG aircraft on P3D. Its like waiting for the FSX versions all over again!

As a side note, not intending to release the MD11 doesnt mean its out of the question and impossible by the sounds of it.   B) (Thats just being extremely hopeful for my favorite aircraft) The legacy 744 is for obvious reasons.

Please don't try to parse our words. We are not trying to hide things or mislead here - the MD-11 product will not be further developed and this includes P3D support.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that our legal counsel and our partner companies in this know more about the reasons than an unnamed simmer guy with the handle "Squishy" on the Internet... just a hunch.

Just don't complain about the price for the p3d versions. I know many people will.

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

Dont worry, I never bought PMDG for FSX, I used it a few times on a friends simulator. I am expecting the price to be the same for the academic license for P3D as it was for FSX, which is worth the money. Gotta keep PMDG alive some how =P

I have this aching feeling PMDG won't release an "academic" license...

Could be just me, though.

IMHO, whenever PMDG comes over to P3D an ultra-critical piece is how well PMDG exploits the new DX11 rendering engine in P3D.  While this is an unquantified issue in that no one I don't think can say how much upside in performance will be gained from building a P3D-optimized add on right now I can only imagine the PMDG T7 will perform very poorly in P3D's 2.2.1 version.  If I am not mistaken there are currently NO PRODUCTS that have been specifically designed for P3D V2.x, while there are several FSX products that have P3D installers.  I understand from RobA's comment that FB in their KIAD release is using a more compatible texture type.  Maybe this will be the first look at what at least some optimization can bring to performance.  P3D displays some oddities in that in certain situations it can become very CPU bound in areas I wouldn't have thought that would happen in:  CPU at 100% (I know that's a given) but GPU at only 50%, while frames are choking a bit to the high teens low 20's on very strong hardware--this scenario IS responsive to CPU overclocking in my experience as well.  I can only imagine parking the T7 at the gate at FB's KSFO in 2.2 would garner a whopping 12 FPS or so.  That's my take guess anyway.

I was so enjoying my routine of using FSPax w/ the T7 in FSX...until I installed P3D V2.0, after which despite trying 4 or 5 times to go back and load up a flight in FSX, I never actually completed one of those flights, hitting the shutdown sequence so I could fire up P3D.   I kept FSX in the box until 2 weeks ago at which point I uninstalled all of it.  P3D on strong hardware is...very compelling!

Ok,  I have both P3D V2.2 and FSX on my computer.  I have a license for the NGX and the 777 for FSX, and am just wondering if by some odd chance that PMDG may offer for a discount the licenses for P3D or if I need to purchase for full price again.    :O

I do not need to have a bunch of readers jump on this with negative comments, just a yes or no from the PMDG guys.

Thanks.

PMDG already went on record as saying they would consider offering a discount but that nothing is final... so it is a possibility, but is not a certainty based on information I have seen thus far.

Phil,

Thanks for the information.  I hope they do offer a reasonable discount, then again, any discount they offer would be reasonable.
