Hello, Capt. Randazzo and team,

As I've said many times in other posts, I love my PMDG products.  However, I had to rebuild my sim hardware a week ago and made the move to P3D Pro, latest version.  Now, I'm forced to fly my old 737 from another maker.  The inability to fly my NGX is driving me mad.  I hope your licensing issues are resolved soon and we can have the NG (X?) (P?) in about a year or so.  Sooner would be better but I understand how busy you guys are...

Best,

Kevin

Last week I also made the move to p3d. Never want to go back to fsx to be honest. Luckily a lot of addons still work or are compatible with p3d, so I'm very happy about that.

Although it sucks not being able to fly pmdg (yet) in p3d (bought ngx on release, 777 just last week when I was still running fsx), p3d v2.2 is really an improvement over fsx. Once we can fly pmdg in p3d, I think we will see a lot of users migrating from fsx.

Same here.

I have the 777, but won't spend money getting the 300ER, will wait for P3D version. I don't want to see FSX in my machine again. P3D 2.2 is a great sim, since I bought, every trouble I had with FSX is gone.

I think the same way.

Guys, you do know there will likely be a significant difference in the cost because it's being used in a commercial simulation, yes?  I wouldn't bet on "multi-version" options like you're seeing others doing.

Just because others are doing it, doesn't mean it's right, or a safe business practice...

Example:

If I use Google Earth images to create photoreal scenery, they might not notice, and might not come down on me for it.  I'd prefer to avoid that risk and just create my own stuff.  It avoids the risk to begin with.  I'm not going to bet against myself like that.

Same here at least we have some new airbuses to look forward to

As how in depth pmdg products have become - lot of things in the mix - especially as pmdg products being used in advanced training along with P3D - lots of bases to cover so not surprising, cost being higher - hey you get what you pay for in this life

I know I won't get any hugs or rainbows, Kyle, but I kinda disagree with that. iFly has 737 P3D, going to get it and it will not be as nice at PMDG, but they (iFly) released a 737 for training. It DID cost more, like 40% more, but I get it all, 600 thru 900, and all three BBJ models. And FS2Crew...

Edit - I would pay $100 to $125 for a P3D NGX.  Only because of the fidelity of the sim in comparison to iFly.

I'm not shooting off of basic conjecture here.  Boeing data doesn't come cheap, and the only reason it's as cheap as it is for FSX is that FSX is "entertainment only."  Remove that caveat and the price soars.  That's a fact.  I know a lot of P3D diehards don't want to hear that, but it's true.

I'm not sure how Boeing would address the training segment versus commercial (for profit) issue (regarding pricing), but I'd imagine that there's still a heavy cost to both because of the nature of the beast.  I'm also not sure what iFly's agreement is with Boeing.  If they weren't supplied with Boeing data, then they can kinda do what they want, within the agreement they have with Boeing regarding everything else.

Remember that the manufacturer has final say.  Gulfstream won't let people do a single thing regarding their aircraft in Flight Sim.  At all.  It's their brand and their product.

Anyone could create a Gulf and put it in FSX or P3D, honestly, but doing so opens them up to the risk that Gulf will come after them.  Similarly, PMDG could absolutely port their aircraft over to P3D pretty easily, but doing so opens them up to the risk that Boeing will come after them for doing so outside of the current agreement.  Different agreement - different costs (and those will likely be a lot higher for anything other than "entertainment only").  My guess would be that $100-$125 is going to be a lot lower than what's actually going to be seen.

Again, I don't think many people here truly understand the issues that surround licensing things for programs like P3D.  People seem to think that it's some natural evolution of FSX and are treating it like FSX.  It's not.  It's the natural evolution of ESP, which was an entirely different market sector from FSX.  Up until FSX died, most simmers hadn't even heard of it.  They had no business hearing of it because it didn't apply to them.  P3D is essentially the same thing.  It really doesn't apply to (most of) them, though some are finding ways to shoehorn themselves into valid and not so valid uses of the software.  If FSX hadn't died, I'd argue that people would still be looking at P3D from a faraway Flight Sim perch thinking "oh, that's nice..."  Alas, with Flight Sim being dead, people were panicking and foaming at the mouth to find an actively-supported sim to replace it with.  Of course, since ESP -> P3D being so similar meant that they didn't have to look too far, or give up a lot of what they were used to.

Except most didn't look before they jumped.  They ended up out of their realm, in a foreign land that just looked familiar.  That land is ruled by different laws and agreements, with different costs of living.  Some developers and some users may attempt to live there in denial, but sooner or later, they're going to have to wake up.

Kyle Rodgers

I will not pretend to know any of the dollar figures, but from purely a finance logic standpoint, the price cannot be so high as to discourage most from purchasing it.  If PMDG had to cut a check for the licensing costs to even release products on P3D (sounds like this is the case based on the recent update), then they obviously want it to be a good investment.  Since this is the case, pricing will need to be high enough for them to recoup their costs, but not so high as to discourage sales thus making it a bad investment. Then again we are talking about PMDG, which I am sure has plenty of people lined up to purchase their P3D offerings, so perhaps my logic goes down the toilet :)

Like many others I will wait to see what the price is.  If it is prohibitively expensive (yes, I know this is relative) then I will likely look to XPX as my go to platform.  At least we have options... it is not as if we are locked into P3D.

Gents-

I am going to add a quick note here, since I just dropped a whiff of updated information into the update thread dated 17JUN14...

The short version is that we have an agreement in principle that will allow us to proceed forward with products for P3D.  The ink hasn't been put on the signature blocks yet- and we are dealing with a very large company in that regard so I suspect it will not happen overnight.

Once the ink is on paper, we still have to do some development work.  We have only some basic ideas on how that will progress, but it will happen...

We do not have a release timeline.  I would like to have the 777 out by end of year... but that is based solely on me sitting here staring out the window and thinking, "yeah...six months... we can do that..."  (To put it another way- I am guessing...)

I have a few bumps in the road I have to clear with this P3D stuff- then I'll update this thread globally...  Until I do that- it means I have nothing new to share with you.

(Note to those who didn't read the above sentence:  Silence from us means there is no new information other than what is already available to you in these updates...We don't want to just change the issue date on information you already know- that wastes everyone's time- so please be patient.  As soon as we know- you'll know....)
